We had Brian Lake and we did not know

According to Tom Gillies he's as good as Brian Lake we must agree, "oh  woe is  me if only if only they let me go to Hawthorn, I would have been as good as Brian Lake really really,  believe me it's true just ask my manager. In reality tom was a spud, after Geelong knock back the hawks offer, he did not cement a position  in the Geelong side, if he was any good he would of forced his way into Geelong best side, he say he would have won a norm smith highly unlikely.

I believe the thread is in reference to the above link.

Gillies comes across like a total egomaniac. He admits that he refused to come back through the VFL development league and withdrew from playing. He ignored his long history with a recurring injury that may have had a lot to do with why the MFC wanted him to play in the development league.

And he waffles on about how Hawthorn wanted him before he came to Melbourne. All it proves to me is that you’ve got to take the chances given to you.

I've seen a reasonable amount of preseason training over the years and without question Gillies had a calamitous 3 minute period that is the worst I've seen.  Dropped marks, shanked kicks, falling over, it was genuine laugh out loud stuff.

If he's not the worst player I've seen in red & blue he's on the podium.

Easily the worst I've seen in my lifetime and it's a strong field he's competing in.

Yes he was a horrid player, but I can recall there were a few excited Demonlanders to have he and Shannon Byrnes on board.

As for the thread, I'm struggling to work out what it's doing on the Trade & Leverage Board. Infact I'm struggling to work out what it's doing on Demonland full stop.

And still the calibre of the original post would be an improvement to the coherence and rationality of the current-most Jack Watts thread . . .

You have to wonder how a player like that makes it in to the system - twice!

It was an entertaining article though. The old "it's everyone's fault but mine" trick. Drawing a comparison between himself and Brian Lake. Refusing to play in the Dev league is a neat stunt too - should have sacked him there and then.

Bizarre article. Poor old Tom is in denial and a bit delusional. As a player he was a shocker.

I was trying to be kind... he played one more game at AFL level than I did, and all that... looking back I can't. I don't remember seeing him do anything good. He is going to be that annoying has been that bails you up in the pub and says how he could have been a premiership player if only... (if only he was a good player).

I look forward to him photo bombing our 2018 premiership pic, and then telling his kids how he was there on the day, and only just missed the Smith by a mm.

I think it was because he couldn't get a game in such a good Geelong team at the time that is value was over-inflated.

He was on Geelong's list for four years, so he can't have been a *total* lemon. Sure looked like it though.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
