I wonder if that is a promotion or demotion?

I think it's a promotion for one and a demotion for the other but not sure which.

I would think Rawlings has been told he will not get the GC job and is trying to improve his CV by coaching a team outright.

yep agreed. Sounds the most plausible explanation...he'll hopefully also be super aligned with main team and Goodwin which is even better.

Its hard to see Rawlings ever being a senior coach. Bit like Sumich he seems to have a stigma attached to him.

Sounds like he has asked to do this with his goal of being a senior coach in mind

Rawlings has the paper to say he can be a senior coach, now wants a team to try it out on

Plapp has taken a team that constantly changes personnel from the bottom to ginals in 2 years, next step

That's kind of my thinking.  It's a bit of a win-win for them.  One needs to show he can manage a team, the other needs top-level experience.

It improve both men's CV, it has became highly rated for coaches to have coached their own team, before getting an AFL head coach role, with beverage and Bolton, also if plapp wants to coach an AFL team then you have to be in the AFL system.

I think it is smart in all directions.  Seeing Plapp in the huddles on the telly suggests he has clear, strong messaging skills, has worked with most of the guys in the backline (if he gets that gig) and has shown a real emphasis on defensive pressure and getting to the contest.  I remember watching when Casey beat Willi, and he really looked the goods as coach with his simple reminders of what needed to be done and clear directions to the team.

A good move for Jade’s CV, and we keep the strong connection in game style and approach across the alignment.

good fortune to both gentlemen in 2018!

Something had to happen. Good luck to all but better luck to MELBOURNE.

Honestly, who knows really, but it does sound like a mutually beneficial role swap of sorts. Plapp to me has always come across as a coach invested in his players so will bring that to the MFC coaches box, and Rawlings gets the opportunity to enhance his CV by coaching his own team as old dee points out above.

Best of luck to both!

Coaching an aligned VFL team must be a nightmare.

As I understand it the AFL listed players train in town while the Casey listed players train at Casey and it is only at finals time that the team might train together.

With no Development League next year training at Casey could be a lonely exercise given the reduced number of players.
