Brad Green seems green has left north

given the desire to always keep knowledge coming in, would we be interested?

has worked under malthouse for a year, brendan bolton for a year and the whingy whiny scott of the north variety for two

rawlings has been approached to interview for gc17; perhaps it's time he moved on anyway, after such a long time at the club? i personally rate him highly in terms of how our backline has been organised for the time when it has been under siege (it's the mids that put them under so much pressure), and would be loathe to lose is ip into the club

are there any other mooted coaching moves within our box?

Who are we losing on the coaching staff for starters?

Who would be other likely replacement  candidates?

A big 'not sure' in any event.

Like we want to get the best players, surely we want the best coaches.

What have Carlton and North achieved of late?

The way he left us was also  a bit awkward wasn't it?

Personally, I wouldn't have minded Luke Hodge setting some expectations for our midfield prior to the Collingwood game but of course he was still playing.

Isnt now though.

hodge is seemingly set for a year out in the media first and foremost - has he expressed any interest in coaching?

you'd think brad green would be handy to have as a 'kicking coach'

Maybe, maybe not.  Being a good kick doesn't necessarily mean you can identify and fix problems that others have.

Prefer Paul Wheatley to teach them. Effectively negates the need for inside 50's.

He just got BOG for Nth Ringwood winning their 3rd vets grand final in a row for good measure.

Possibly the hardest job to evaluate as a footy fan.

You can't tell who makes the calls on selection, who makes the calls on which players play where, who's responsible for the game plan.

Maybe the best judgement you can make about an assistant from the outside is the praise they receive from the players who play in their line and when you hear an assistant talk up a maligned or young player who then comes good.

I remember that happening with Rawlings and Nev Jetta but I'm not sure it's happened so much the last couple of years. Maybe time to shuffle around the coaches to give them fresh jobs.

If Green was the best man for the job I'd love to have him back because I think it's important to keep Melbourne people involved. It's nice to keep that history and connection to the fans in the club.

Someone at Demonland land must be sacrificed for the team not winning more games than most of us expect. One or two assistant coaches to go,we need new "blood", not someone's mate.

So we should advertise for a friendless assistant coach.

Imagine all the stories he could regale about that time he went to play on trial for Manchester United!

He's still a bit green. Wouldn't have been moved on for second or third time if he was at the top of his game

Most gracious of you.

Good luck !!

I'd kill to have Green in our coaching team.  He was a damn smart player, a good kick and from the few times I've seen him quoted in the media seems to be pretty savvy about tactics and trends in the game.

As for who we get rid of to make room for him, a certain forward line coach seems a good candidate.  Green is one person who knows how to make a lead.  He could certainly teach our forwards how to create space for each other, and with luck even get our mids passing to the lead properly.

Is Green any good ??

Simple question

Forget Melb history.

Was Rawlings the back line coach, if so I think its time for a change? I think to have Green involved would be great, understands the clubs past and always had the smarts when he played.

In that case, let's get Plugger, Dunstall and GAS to the club. We'll be nailing them from the boundary

He was good as a player, but I think he would be a very average assistant coach.

Seemingly Carlton & North agree.

Maybe we could get Wellman back as backline coach as well?  He did a bloody good job before he answered the call of the Hird.

Agree 100%, Wellman did a great job with our backline.

Not like this year where we would often see:

- multiple players go for mark or punch and nobody stays down

- throw ins, no player goalside defending

- no defender who drops into the goal square!

Rawlings has been around since the neeld days. We still dont have a proper game plan in terms of kicking out.

The others came in from Roos apart from Chaplin. Sometimes a fresh voice is good and we may need to get some newbies in. I see the pies have snapped up Boyd already from the dogs.

I think hodge would be great especially for someone like viney because he could help him out so much on how captaincy and leadership and would also be good for Oliver to I reckon. But I think the media beckons for him.

You certainly  wouldn't have him as a handball coach.

Pies are throwing $$$ at Jennings and suns are interested in Macca so depending on how that plays out we may have to re shuffle

I've heard Macca will only go for senior role and Jennings is unlikely to leave so I'd say strong odds on no coaching changes

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
