I can't see Jack wanting to move interstate though - he has a girlfriend based in Melbourne and don't think she would move to Adelaide for the next 5 years.

Yeah. Would have thought so myself originally. Apparently Port's pitch was spot on. Something along the lines of making the most of his strengths. Geez. Imagine that. Knowing a player's strengths and finding a place for them in your team. Whodathunkit?

But.........you never know.

Regardless........he's going.

This is why I keep harping on about failed messiah issues.  How many players does any club have, particuarly a mediocre one like ours (cum basket case) that dominate games?  The number is countable on the fingers of a mutilated hand. You don't sack the other players in the squad.

If Watts was just accepted as a mediocre player who can play lots of roles we wouldn't be having this debate.   We may still support the FD in thinking his best value is a trade or in our usual know-all wisdom say they are wrong, or at least worry that they are wrong (ie. me), but the debate would not be this bitter and at times ludicrous on both sides.

Obviously you are not in the FD of the Cats, Swans, Port.....

But of course staying wth the Demons (as distinct from being recruited by another club) is now close to impossible.

Well the Cats offered a pick in the 40's so they weren't that keen, nor did they want to pay him what he earns at Melbourne. Might want to hunt down a relevant point

How did Jacks pre season 2017  go from goodwin saying he is being dropped  because we want him to jump at the footy more and if he does that he is back in - to the flogs on s.e.n saying he turned up in terrible shape etc , it’s rubbish yeah? Or did I miss something? Jack played well this season until the injury so he was as fit as expected or im sure he would not have been played , our culture wouldnt allow it .

Get the sense we're asking for a first rounder, and no one is prepared to give it. Unlike others, judging by the rhetoric used by the club through this, I don't think they're going to budge. Maybe to a high second rounder, but no way to a third. Just my thoughts anyway.

From Jack's perspective, I don't know why he wouldn't want to move to Sydney. If he wants to focus on his business, its the perfect city! His shorts are made for Bondi.

The Cats was always going to be hard, they don't have Cap room, especially with G Ablett.  Ideally the Club would want a pick 20-30 and pay none of his wage.  Sydney is the same we would need to fit most of his wage.  Anything outside that he stays and we build a bridge

Very true. There's no way the Swans could get him under their cap. Its Port or bust I'd say, and I just can't see him moving to Adelaide.

I've said it before, but I wonder how much Jack and the club have already been talking behind the scenes. I know the media has been harping on about the damage being done, and the trade being a certainty now, but you can't tell me Goody and Jack didn't chat at the B&F.

I have no doubt there is a high degree of frustration, but I'm not sure its as acrimonious as the media is letting on.

Stephen Wells just said on Trade Radio that the Cats are unlikely to be able to do a deal for Jack Watts to come to Geelong.

So why in the world did they bother with a tour and showing some interest in him?  Or are the Cats being tight with what they have?  Either way, sounds more and more like Jack will head to Port Adelaide.

Obviously told them he is going to Port.

So if Sydney pull out due to cap issues and Port sign Motlop on big money...

WELCOME BACK JACK!!   no hard feelings son.  we love ya  ;-)

Sydney are out

from the AFL Website
Jack Watts toured Geelong's Simonds Stadium headquarters on Tuesday and will choose between the Cats and Port Adelaide as his new football home. He has got his head around leaving Melbourne and has ruled out Sydney as a potential destination.

Port apparently have already offered Watts a very good deal over 3 years. I think its almost certain he will be going there.

Quote from Steven Wells ""We've had a good conversation with Melbourne and they've made it clear what they'd be expecting from us, and at this stage, we don't think we'd be able to do that deal so we're not going to give Jack any false hope or waste anybody's time."

So what on earth are we asking for if the club doesn't rate him. I am leased we aren't giving him up for a packet of crisps. maybe others are baulking at picking up his contract and want us to pay the lions share?

The day Jack got back from touring Adelaide he came out in the media and plead his case, said he loved the club and didn't want to leave Melbourne. He has since toured the Cats, and spoken to the Swans while Port have in the meantime offered him a 3 year deal. They're not the actions of someone who was enamored with the prospect of going to Port Adelaide.

Remember he has to agree to move.

I might be alone here, but I reckon chances are skewed towards him staying now.

There's no way he can stay.. IMO that bridge is burnt.

FfI dont think any damage would have been done between Goody and Watts. Grown men! Goody is a realist... And there is nothing wrong with that.

I actually think the playing group would have even more respect for Goody now! I liked Goodys B&F speech. BRILLIANT!

If Jack stays or goes he will be thankful in the end. Because I do believe Jack will get the best out of himself from this moment on. This situation would have been a shick to the and a life changing event.

I think the Dees would have been wanting Cats Pick 20 or a decent player. Cats ruled themselves out as there not even close in dealing.

On the other hand, I think the Power are more desperate in getting Jack. Pick 29 wont get it done though. I wouldnt think!

But if they deal Pick 29 and there 2018 2nd round (approx. Pick 34). Trade gets done!

I cant see Jack going to Sydney.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
