1 player in that group was unceremoniously dumped in James McDonald.

Bruce didn't want a 1 year deal and quit.
Green, Grimes and Trengove were all done. What do you want, a parade for them?
Dunn was found a new home to allow him to continue his career whilst Melbourne got games in to young players, it was a win win

Goodwin is part of a broader list management committee with Todd Viney, will you say he has not historical connection with the MFC?

Goodwin was coach in all but name of Jack's break out year in 2016. He's made some strong comments but otherwise supported Watts. I don't think moving him on is the vendetta some make it out to be. I might just be the logical decision to improve the team and the best thing for Watts as well.

Bruce wanted a two year deal and he deserved it. His form warranted it. By offering a one year contract to a loyal and hard working player  they were virtually opening the door and easing him out. 'Don't like our terms go!' When you play well over 200 games witrh a club it would be hard not to still love that club. I always remember, as a new Hawthorn player, turning up to Jim Stynes funeral wearing a demons tie. I wouldn't say Green was done when he was shown the door. Was Robbo another who got the shove?

Unless we can get a pick within 25 or a quality player in return, Watts has to stay with us.

We'll probably have pay some of his contract to Port wouldn't we?

It all has to come down to value.  I wasn't keen to see him traded and thought that, with his contract, he'd be no chance to be.  However, if the offer is right you have to consider it.  An early second or late first may be too much to ignore; with that said, I'd also gladly trade watts for a player like Hartlett.

It also probably indicates that the club has a fair bit of faith in Weideman coming on, as Pederson is getting a little long in the tooth and has never put an entire season together.  The Weid must be part of the intermediate to long term plans.

Interesting off-season ahead.

Dropped twice for good reason. Preperarion and commitent questioned?

He is 26 and talented but should be providing consistent and influencial performances. He does not!

Goodwin and the MFC will do what is (watt is) best for the club going forward. And also Jack. A fresh start will do wonders for Jack...

He is still valued as a Demon. But if a beneficial trade for both club and player can be done it will! If not, he stays and hopefully it is a kick up the bum and he commits fully to the MFC.

Tom Lynch from Adelaide is a good mate of his. If Jack could take a leaf out of Toms book. That would be a great start.

We are outsiders. The footy department will make the correct call...

How many games did Bruce play for Hawthorn in year 1 and year 2 of the deal? Not sure he played any in the 2nd year. What's wrong with - don't like our terms, stay and fight.

Green didn't chase, didn't tackle, didn't want contact, he was only getting a kick when it was easy. Maybe could've been kept but it wasn't a harsh decision. Robbo was completely done, body was finished.

That is not correct.  It is a myth people make up to support their views.

Its always speculation as this isn't public but i recall in the player payment lists that get published from time to time had watts as our top earner in the 2011-2013 contract period

Do you believe Hawthorn unceremoniously ousted loyal players in Mitchell, Lewis and now possibly Hodge, only for them to play on elsewhere? Or was that prudent list management?

And Hawthorn hardly set the world on fire this year did they? I fear the same thing for us next year.

Harlett's on huge money. I think a big part of moving Watts on will be storing up extra salary cap space so that we bring in Lever without putting too much pressure on the books. Petracca and Oliver will need pay rises soon and I've got no doubt we'll look for another trade target in 2018/2019.

Got to give Jason Taylor some picks to work with and have to store some salary cap space so you can make another move in the future.

Yeah but they have won 4 premierships recently we have won sfa.

I also fear we could go backwards because of the possible fallout from this too.

That would be the worst possible outcome.

He was injured in his first year at Hawthorn. That's why he only played around ten games with the Hawks. Now don't tell me he would have been injured if he was still playing for Melbourne. Think Nic Nat. If he had been a Demon he wouldn't have been in the same specific situation to have suffered a serious knee injury. Of course this doesn't mean they were injury proof.

After 186 and HWSNBN defected the club was desperate to keep some positiveness around the club.  Jack was one part of that.  There were a few others. But for Jack, that lasted one contract term and not 'over the journey'.  In reality no-one earnt their contract value between 2011-2013.  Its not something to hang Jack over.  The circumstances were not of his making.

Read the comments on Facebook about saying he was getting kicked out...

The best n fairest is going to be awkward if he's there. I wonder if Goody and Macca will ask him not to come?

If we go backwards as a club for trading Watts we may as well hand the keys in now. Sometimes hard decisions need to be made, like Deledio when he left Richmond, It's hardly the disaster that some are making out

I did say this year not previous ones. How they went after kicking out Lewis and Mitchell.

Brad Green was one of the bravest players we have ever had. Some of his marks facing the oncoming pack were so courageous. And you say he didn't want contact?

Yep. Those tea leaves of mine aren't speaking of joy. A lot could go very pear shaped without prudent management.

You know what?  You are probably right, but we aren't going to get full value here.  We're the ones moving him on, not the other way around.  If he goes to Port then we're likely getting Pick 29 back, which to me is not a whole lot different than Balic and a third rounder.  At least Balic has been in the system a few years and will be ready to go come pre-season.

Either way, at that price above I'd much rather keep Jack, but it looks unlikely that it will happen.

He is contracted, I don't think we will trade him for nothing ala Jeremy Howe. Ideally we get a few clubs interested to drive his price up because the reality is if all we is offered is sweet [censored] all then I'm sure we will hold onto him and hopefully this trade talk is the kick up the ass that Jack needs. I think he is worth a pick between 14-24 I don't think 29 gets it done especially considering he is contracted.

"Jacks gone, its just a matter of which club"

According to David King, who was with him at a function today.

Up until he did his hammy, his career trajectory was fine.

I dispute that. He's had periods of good form followed by periods of disappointment and it's been a recurring theme since 2010.

Hogan won't go for peanuts if he does go at all.

But that game is why we are having a major [censored] over the last month

Interestingly this is my take on the assessment of Goodwin's performance in your thread on the main board.

Had we beat the Pies and made the finals would Watts still be on the outer? I think he would as he has apparently demonstrated poor habits and standards off field both pre-season and following his injury mid-season and it seems to be a recurring theme throughout his career.

Jack Watts is number two in the league for his team retaining possession when the ball is in his hands.

Taylor Walker is number one

Again, before we absolutely [censored] our pants over this, let's wait and see what actually happens.

All we know is that the club, potentially, has told Jack that we plan to move him on and one club he has visited is Port Adelaide.  That's basically all we know at this minute.  I know many of us have a soft spot for Jack, and rightly so, but let's not act like children and pot the club when we have no idea (yet) as to what is going on.

So, take a chill pill and relax. Be disappointed at Jack being put up for trade, but also consider why this is happening and waiting until we know more.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
