Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Honestly don't think it's anyone. We'll get Lever and possibly Balic. Usually by now you hear what names we're sniffing around, but these two are the only ones we've heard so far.

Nahhh.

To state what you have with such confidence is a bit silly given how crazy trade week is when it’s underway.

That's who I was thinking. He was mentioned many pages back in this thread. Macrae would be a good get but very much doubt the Dogs would let him go. Will go close to winning the Dogs B+F which is on tonight.

Wouldn't say it was with confidence. Just a general feeling that I have. I know that trade week can get quite hectic, but right now atm im just set on Basically and Lever.

You never made the dinstinction and the distinction is irrelevant. Planned trades and unexpected trades all bare the same result.

I think that is exactly the attitude the MFC took back in 2009 when they failed to even interview Dusty who was a widely regarded top 5 pick. At the time I thought he would be a good option as we had picks 1 and 2. Take Scully at one as the outstanding endurance athlete of the draft and although Trengove looked good I wanted Dusty for that mongrel element the list needed. Scully and Trengrove were always the vanilla, nice boys option for my thinking. But yes Dusty would have struggled to fit in at MFC but he also had problems at the Tigers and shopped himself around only 2 or 3 years ago with no takers believe it or not! What a transformation. Maybe an omen for Jack Watts if we can't do a trade and he ends up back at home? However I suspect we will take any offer and there will be suiters because he has a much less threatening demeanour.

Yes Earl exactly what i was getting at. Strange they didnt interview a top 5 pick?? I really wonder what they were told? At the time I also thought, as did a lot of people that he would have been a good fit for the MFC. Sadly it was not to be.

You  want to forget - apart from the fact that hindsight is so easy and obvious - that Richmond tried to sell off Martin for years and nobody wanted to go near him.

A fact.

I think there is another trade in addition to Lever in the works.

There's not a lot of difference between:

  1. Lever for 10 + 27
  2. Lever + 34 for 10 + 2018 1st rounder

MFC prefer the 1st option and Adelaide prefer the 2nd

But MFC have another trade that needs a 1st rounder, that's the problem.

A possible solution that is a small upgrade to Adelaide on both these deals is:

  • Lever + 16 for 10 + 2018 1st rounder + 27

Gives MFC 16 + Watts for a further trade.

As long as he doesn't take the last kick of the match for a win.

So trade him for Jack Watts and then ... oh, wait  That would be a very pre-2014 Melbourne trade :roos:

If there is another player about as valuable as Lever looking to get to us, then I would probably prefer to work with the players list than sell the future picks. If so then it looks more and more like J Hogan who may be packing his bags. I would prefer to see Brayshaw and later picks from next year, not 1st round.

High draft picks are a big gamble. Look at some of the players we got recently eg Cale Morton at pick 4, Lucas Cook, etc etc. we should trade the high draft picks for good AFL- proven players.

Yes but if Hogan IS looking to be out of here OR we could get a late 1st/early 2nd round for Brayshaw or the Wied, I could settle if there is a midfield gun looking to come across.

Picks are over-valued.  I'd prefer to keep Hogan and Brayshaw than speculate in the 2018 1st round.

Oh wow really? Read the post D, its not about hindsight, i was talking to Earl about what was said at the time. I was living in Castlemaine back then, where he is from or around there, and the entire town was talking about him before he had even played an afl game. My point was i wonder what the MFC were told prior to the draft selections, since they didnt even look at him....and yes we know Richmond tried to sell him off......perhaps if you read Earl Hoods original post that may clarify.

What do you reckon about @Crystal Deesproposal for trade with Richmond:

Melbourne give: 10, 27, 45
Melbourne receive: 15, 17, 53

It satisfies Adelaide's demand for two first round picks, and keeps our 2018 first round pick up our sleeve for another trade.

Edit: judging by Burton's behaviour in the media yesterday, and the reports of him walking out without replying to our offer of 10 + 27, the strategic plan should probably involve keeping the discussions with Adelaide themselves to a minimum, rather than seeking out a more complex deal with them.  They are fast developing a reputation of being unreasonable at the trade table.

It's fine. 15 + 17 for Lever.  Same ball park as the 3 I proposed above, probably better for us.

Melb making big play for pick 2 from GCS by using pick 10 and Watts and exchanging other picks. Back up for Lever going to draft. (apparently)

That's nice from the MFC's view, but for a club without a coach, GCS would be putting a fair bit on the line for a player like Watts.  If I were Jack's manager I'd strongly suggest he looks at clubs with very strong cultures; and the advice from the player and his manager will dictate which club(s) the MFC focuses its deals on.

Agree. Only a rumour and as we know 95% of them don't come true. While I'm fed up with Jack I still want to see him do well, a strong culture is what he needs.

Why would Watts want to go to the GCS? He doesn't want to leave Vic, he doesn't want to leave the MFC and can you imagine him wanting to jump from a probable finals side to another basket case? That rumour doesn't make sense

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
