WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

True.  But you are not quite right - in fact they can award a free kick for wasting time.

So Brown can waste more time than other players because he always takes a long run up.  A bit like Buddy's 'natural arc'.....

Because until the umpire says play on, SSBrown can walk in as far as he likes.  And since there seems to be no rule about how much time a player can take once he has started walking in, the umpire has no way to call play on.   He can walk as slowly as he likes. And the game clock is running from the moment he starts walking in.

Furthermore if you take a mark with say 60 seconds to go and want to waste time, I suggest you run as fast as you can away from your goal in the 30 seconds before you have to start walking in.  100m should do it.  Then if you walk in you can easily use up most of the 60 seconds before you kick the ball.  And you can't even get it wrong by walking from too far away or too slowly because if the siren goes, you get even more time to kick at goal.

Wait until this happens in a final to skew the result and watch the sparks fly.

I'm happy to be corrected on this. In fact I beg to be since that would give me a glimmer of hope that the rules are not a complete shambles.

You surely couldn't be suggesting that there would be some sort of ill conceived knee jerk reaction from the knee jerks at HQ?

Or give a free against you.  Used to even be reportable long ago.

Slobbo reckons NM should trade Ben Brown as well as Higgins and re-build with top draft picks. Is Ben Brown worth our first round pick? I'm going to say that pick 1-3 would be off-limits. If we won a few games, you'd surely trade a pick 6-10 or so for him.

Edit: Or the alternative question is which player would we trade to acquire BB or a pick for him.

But he's a lead and mark full forward... Who would kick to him? ?‍♂️

Pick 1-4 off limits if we finish bottom 4 (which we will).

Petracca for a pick in the 10-15 range I would definitely consider on trading for Brown. Doubt North would go for it though.

Still if he’s gettable we should be discussing him. Very good player. Proven goalkicker over multiple seasons.

No... we've gambled with 1st Rnd pickS...  to buy Lever, when we still need so many players.

I'd rather us gamble at the draft with 1st Rnd picks,  to NAB an elite kid. rather than be giving them to other clubs.

Our older players are past it now...  and the window is half down atmo...  until our new breed of 24 Yr olds make the next push as leaders.

How many tall one-dimensional slows do you you want?

I would trade Preuss, and I actually rate Preuss.

A slow team can't carry slow footballers, that will struggle to lay a tackle.

Ben Brown and Joe Daniher are match up nightmares...

Joe Daniher is a lock for his career at the Bummers...

Ben Brown I believe is gettable at the end of 2018... We offer him 800k a season for 5 years.  By the end of 2018 it might be a mill...

Josh Kelly will end up at North on a truck load...

I rate OMac and Frost down back. There young and raw. Lever would be great. But I think Brown should be our man.

Oh Sheeit lets get .................................................. Insert player Here.

Welcome to wonderland Alice. Sheeesh why do we resort to wild speculation and play wet dreamscape based on zero logic and even more, Total lack of player contractual obligations??

Plus .. Its MFC... home to almosts, couldas, woulda's, almosts, and never wassas!!

Sheeeit let go after Danger, Dusty, Sheeit can Peter Hudson still play? Et al

Ben Brown?? Can kick a Goal or two, but at MFC?? ah Nar, probably go down with a once in a zodiac serious injury round 1 and never play again...

Pass!

Ben Brown would be a superstar in the right team.   In our current team he would struggle, as our delivery inside 50 is putrid as is our system.

2020 might be a different story.  No way Id trade a top 10 pick for him though.

Get Ben Brown.... a haircut.

He should be fined all that hair and he treats it like crap.

He and Heppell have the worst "Do's" in the comp.

Ben Brown is a flopper.  Constantly plays for freekicks and I have no interest in ever seeing him in the red and blue.

Anyway, we need agile Tall fwds who can play up the ground and connect our fwd attacks

You are fussy, I would be happy with any tall forward who has ability.

Should have just kept Hogan.

Hard to keep someone who doesn’t want to be here.

Ben Brown would be useless with us because his number 1 avenue to goal is free kicks. We're not allowed to receive any inside f50, so he'd be lucky to get a kick.

If Brown was at Collingwood/Giants/Geelong he'd be near on kicking 100 goals a season. As Petraccattack said, we don't have anyone, (except Salem) who can deliver it as he requires it - out in front whilst on the lead.

We actually HAVE competent forwards but they are either completely bereft of confidence, still nursing pre-season niggles or both.  Garbage incoming disposal hasn't helped either.

Petracca for example, has the skill set to be our DeGoey but lacks the commitment, confidence and focus to carry out that role.

Yep which is what a successful club like Geelong would've done ala tim kelly, rather than trading him for way unders and picking up an unprofessional injury and suspension prone slob like May on a massive contract.

Ben Brown better contested mark than Hogan and can actually kick from outside 50.

Yes,  but he's Tasmanian,  'BA'.    He'd be in two minds...  deciding whether to leave home.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
