he ducked mate... live at the game....but who cares?

im sure it didn't look like a duck to you from that angle on your tv screen or mobile device

[censored]. Are you trying to wind people up? I went to the game. Saw it live and have watched it a dozen time on video. He in no way ducks. He does not lower his body at all, flex his knees nor incline his head or drop his shoulders. He was running flat out and trying to get down the boundary line and break free.  And would have if he didn't have his head ripped off.

What's your evidence that he ducked?

Just managed to watch the game again and saw the first half for the first time, and well just a few thoughts.

ANB. He came off the back of the square straight to the contest, and did it all day long. He seemed to be by himself everytime. Could PA not see this? Why didnt they try and get somebody to at least go with him. Maybe just too fast. He also set up several goals or started the chain that led to them.

VINEY. He just didnt stop did he. People were worried hed be playing in pain, or lacking match fitness. Plantar Facitis. Hes back 2w after the operation. If he was playing in pain, nobody told Jack. Outstanding all day.

GAWN. Back to Max of old in the first half. How long has it been!?? We totally and absolutely smashed them in the clearences, something theyd been excelling in for the last month or so. At every stoppage we were unbeatable. PA were shell shocked. Then when he went off in the 3rd injured our structure seemed to change. We didnt win the clearances TMac was not doing his stuff in the forward line. I was thinking wheres Pedo? He did get back on but seemed to just run out the game on half speed, clearly an injury to the lower leg. Hell be fine.

NEV "The Wall" JETTA Words cant describe the 1% deft touches, out and out tackles and sheer determination of this guy. I know hes been playing for a few years but.. where did he come from? With all the injuries weve had, this guy has just stood strong and kept us alive and in the race. Takes on guys twice his size and wins and they dont like it.

HOGAN. With all hes been through this year, Father dying, cancer, suspension and even caught smoking god forbid, he was back this game. Im amazed hes even playing at all. Cancer and its effects at such a young age is unpredictable. Even the psychological aspect in itself may take years with some of us. Not Jesse. He just need to get that match fitness and mojo back and look out. Some of his positioning and moves was just pure physics. Zero stress. Just did it. Good on you Jesse. Welcome back. The club and the team would be especially proud of you.

This team is still building.

Defensive structures looked good down back vs Port.

Has Simon made a small concession to his kamikaze game-plan? I had mostly come to accept that goals leaked out the back would be a part of the Goodwin parcel, but for a couple matches after the bye I felt we'd eased off on the high press a fraction and set the zone a little deeper. Just a small tweak. Then we got wiped out by Adelaide.

Is Trenners the new compromise?

Dunn, Grimes, and pretty much Garland have all been shown the door for not fitting the fast, attacking mold down back, and in the off-season some were even questioning Jetta's place going forward due to a similar assessment. On this criteria, and based on the tiny tiny sample size with all due caveats, it looks like Trenners still won't make it.

Yet, while Jack doesn't have the exceptional dash and attacking flair (and at times, his chosen options took me back to another era), he was solid and reliable, and I was much happier with him there in defence than Bernie. As others have said, he had also taken on a marshaling role.

The question I suppose is; is it possible that Trenners is taking up a new role in the team, a stabaliser of sorts alongside Nev? A small compromise to our gung-ho game-plan? And then should he be judged on different criteria?

another poster touched on this but I think you might have something. I really felt JT is a safe pair of hands to relieve pressure as well.

First time we've ever won the week after hosting a Darwin game...

I specifically watched at the ground who it was that was to be the 7th defender charging into the square at the first bounce and what impact they'd have.  It was of course Nibbler, and sure enough he got the first disposal off. Notice that he then also works his way all the way down the ground to be poised to score our first metres from goal if they have allowed the advantage for Tommys free kick.  Nibblers workrate  is extremely impressive I'm  glad he's translating that Casey form that i saw last year into the seniors.

How many times have you made this point, basil?  Getting rather tedious, frankly.

Didn't look like a duck to me - a clumsy tackle.

And I hope he carries on the same way when Selwood, or his new disciple in ducking, Paddy, does it in his tackle.

You are just like the others mono.

I made the point once, and was jumped on by the happy clappers. I responded to each in kind, as is my right.

I will continue to do so regardless if it puts noses out of joint.

I feel your pain, binman. Having watched the Dixon head high tackle on Jetta over and over, as have you I'm sure, Jetta couldn't have done any better NOT to duck, so there can be but one explanation for the seeming delusion of others on here. Fake news! The Trumpist pathology is spreading, even to Demonland, and objective reality is no longer assured. Black is white, facts are flexible and the truth is alternative. Save your breath I reckon.

Where is it a rule that a player when he gets the ball must stand up stiff and straight and honour his opponents tackle? There are deliberate ducking's to draw frees as well as positioning to dodge tackles. Jetta did the latter. He charged through and wore it. Brave stuff.

AHHHHHHH!!!.

Fake news is spreading. Jetta DID NOT lower his head to dodge a tackle. He did not lower his head AT ALL!.

Might have been the J Selwood- style shoulder shrug involved,  But it was Nev.  One way to get the MFC faithful offside is to rip Nev's head off then give him a spray.  Like someone picking on your first born.

Must say when I saw that live it didn't look like Jetta ducked but I haven't seen the replay of the game yet.

it just looked like Dixon was being a dick head after he tackled Jetta high which I am sure I am right.

Great post ...especially comments about Jetta. He works tirelessly and so consistently yet never seems to get much love. He reads the play so well and rarely gets beaten especially one on one. Can still see him from a couple of weeks ago popping up like a cork after going down (near Frost in the last mins) to save the day.

I would argue that you forget to mention Milkshake's coming of age for MFC.

Have to disagree here, Nev gets lots of love on this site, he one of, if not the most respected and loved players at the MFC.

He goes about his business, without fuss, each week and I can't remember anyone having a bad word to say about him, the best of all the Jetta's I've seen.

You might be right, though not all oft criticized players with few games under their belt are afforded the same latitude. Tyson certainly wasn't in his first season at the dees on these boards. And i'm not sure what you mean by Hunts disposal being mentioned each week.? it is mentioned sometimes but rarely in a critical fashion - more in a he will clean that aspect up but jeez isn't he great to watch kind of way

But again i feel as if you are missing my point. I wasn't trying to defend Tyson or criticise Hunt.

By the by in case there is a misunderstanding i'm not having a go at you or suggesting you are being biased. Though i would say we all have our biases. Personally mine are on the positive side. I tend to see good bits of play that conform things i rate about players and perhaps miss examples of weaknesses (though i try not to and for players i have found myself defending i am vert alert to them) .

On Tyson i agree his disposal is frustrating and needs to be improved. But there is a limit to how much it will be. And i find his errors frustrating. But i find all errors frustrating.

Without having a shot at you i'm not quite sure though what your point is about him other than as a senior player he should do better. He's probably not going to ever do much better. So perhaps he has found his level.

Are you arguing we should not play him and he should play at Casey until he improves your required level? Or perhaps that we should trade him at seasons end (he would have currency and be in high demand - it could help in a trade for Lever).

I have said I'd trade him before. But probably not, I'm a believer in morale and want the core group to stay together. (There were rumours he was "disgruntled" earlier this year, if he wanted out I'd trade him for Lever or Zak Jones. (But I'd still rather keep, I like his enthusiasm for the club in his post match interviews.)

I don't want him dropped. I simply want him to clean up basic errors. Anyone would think I'm asking him to become Gary Ablett.

You say he probably won't ever do much better. I think he can, look at the jump Nathan Jones had. Not too dissimilar.

Anyway we won, and I'm going to enjoy that. I'll bang on about this next time we lose.

Yep good point. Nathan Jones has improved his kicking out of sight hasn't he and now is very strong off both sides of his body. So there is scope for tyson to improve, you're right. I hope he does.

The issue i see for him is he has a technical issue in so far as he drops the ball from a long way. When he hits it well he is a really penetrating kick and can bullet them but he does tend to shank them. A situation made worse by the fact that he can't kick right footed.

Have watched this live and a dozen times on replay. Couldn't agree more.

Jetta did not duck full stop

Those that say he did are blind or just trying to troll other posters.

I meant the media in general. I believe he is one of the best defenders going around but he is hardly ever raved about by commentators in the games I have watched.

There was no duck from Jetta. I think it was more a case of height disparity between he and Dixon.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
