POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 15

Featured Replies

Very flat after that. There was almost mothing to enjoy. Injuries and 6 day breaks killed us.

Outstanding game from OMac and Jetta.

Good games from Petracca, TMac.

Viney injury now really hurts us, with so many other best 22 players injured.

Very poor from White, ANB aand Harmes.

Wagner will be better for the run but his fumbling really annoyed me.

Not blaming the scheduling in isolation, but 4 games in 18 days, including one in Perth? Just nothing there that would have helped. Feel like we left it all out on the park in Perth last weekend, and not enough foot soldiers left.

Fringe players were exposed tonight, some more than others. A few positives, and even some positives amongst the negatives, but time to move on from this one. We get a decent break to refresh and rebuild, hopefully can get some players back to push through the last part of the season.

Won't win another game until we get good players back from injury. No Jones, Hogan, Watts, Garlett, Salem, Viney and Tyson.... that's impossible to cover. Hoping we can still make finals from here though. O Mac and T Mac probably our best tonight.

Tyson?

It was a mountain too high tonight, and it showed from the outset,  We all know that we're better than that, and a decent break now comes at a perfect time for us to recuperate and go again.

Worst game this year, ran out of steam , socmed should be banned, bugger off, viney gone

umpiring a joke ,

who will be back ?

Viney confirmed Plantar Fascia.

Great... a month at least.

Said he has been dealing with it most of the year, but flared in the 2nd quarter.

Injuries caught up with us today - nothing to be ashamed of. Last years grand finalists would always be a bridge too far with no Jones, Hogan, Watts, Garlett, Salem etc

Maybe the guys have been enjoying drinking their own bath water too - either way, it's a mid season reality check.

Perhaps Trengove will add to this AFL games tally after all?!

Is that the 'mystery injury' that was impeding his form for the first few rounds..?

Crap umpiring, crap commentators. But realistically they were too good, too strong. That's the standard for contested footy.

Fair assessment. And Bruce has now become a parody of himself.

We missed our cream players tonight delivering the ball.

Sydney had a clear plan to out muscle us around the ball and stand up in the tackle.

We are going places. Half or our side were depth players tonight.

Too many NQR players in this game. I overestimated the ability of the likes of White and Wagner to plug gaps. All the footsoldiers struggled. Bugg, the less said the better.

Viney out really hurt, and will hurt.

It's disappointing the be so comprehensively outplayed, but we weren't going to go the whole season without losing again. If we were going to have this game, it might as well be against the rampaging Swans, at the end of 4 games in 18 days, with a third of our best side out, including our two skippers and our three best forwards.

We dust ourselves off and get on with it I think. And hopefully get a few footballers back soon.

Well said ?

You can have White and Wagner in a team.

But you can't have all of White, Wagner, Bugg, Harmes, ANB, Stretch, Melkshem.

Pick 2 or 3 but then you are going to really struggle.

Pretty much full strength Sydney team.

We didn't have a forward line and after half the game our best two grunt mids were out (one before the game).

We got through the nightmare three weeks with 2 wins, I doubt many thought we would.

I don't mind a bit of fun and agression, but Bugg was seriously [censored] stupid tonight and as much as I think he is a good footballer that was crap. Which leads to another point, we keep losing players to dumb actions, which needs to be addressed.

Tyson hurt his knee in the dying seconds. Be prepared for more bad news.

If he's going to play as schitzen as that, Wagner needs to look less Guillermo Vilas and more like Todd Woodbridge.

The first half was like we were a proud, but wounded, animal, we threw everything that we had and played with dare and boldness.

But all we could do is delay the inevitable.

Depth is a misnomer - repeat with me - you cannot replace your best players. Sydney are a world ahead of WCE and Pederen, TMac and the other forwards were a lost and motley crew.

With that said - White and Wagner were on a lower wavelength than the rest of the players, they were playing to a different beat. If they cannot do what Oscar has done, and lift their intensity and quickness of decision making - they should not be persevered with.

We were torn apart by a methodical team that we hope to replicate one day but we need to take care of the teams we should take care of before we have designs on the top 4 or a flag.

Carlton next week.

You want to be as good as Sydney?

They are 5 years ahead of you, next week you can restart on the path to that, lose and I don't know where you are...

"Go on, give it to Buddy - give him 5!!"

Stick to athletics you muppet.

Wagner... seriously.  Cost 4 goals directly when game was still alive.

Wonder if the story of this year for us isn't going to be injuries to key players for key periods. There's only so much you can do.

Garlett
Jones
Salem
Hogan
Watts
Viney for half the game
4 games in 18 days
Travelling across the country.

Was always going to happen. If anything, I am surprised we did so well in keeping them to just 6 goals.
Watts, Garlett, Hogan back in 9 days after a good rest. The hardest part of our season is done and we came out of it 4-1.

Not fussed at all about tonight, we all knew it would happen, Bugg, yeah disappointing, the leadership group will speak to him about that but take the good with the bad with a player like him, he is an antagoniser and will overstep the mark like that at times.

We are still 6th and will still be in the 8, the worst loss of the year ant it's only 35 points against last years premiership runners up and our Casey squad.

Go Demons, we are still one of the top 4-5 teams in the comp but you can only do so much.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
