Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Tommy Bugg on report

Gipsy Danger

Obviously a stupid thing to do. However i have been impressed with the way he has handled himself since.

Trying to apologise straight away

Saying it was stupid and that he will cop the consequences

Owning his mistake and not pretending it was anything other than his fault

World needs more of that

There are a lot of pathetic posts in relation to Bugg. He is one of our players. He gives his all.

He tries to play on the edge and last night he crossed the line. It was a bad mistake no question. He will pay for it. Not the least because, unlike Houli, everyone is happy to pot him.

He clearly doesn't get the 'good bloke' discount. The commentary last night was disgraceful. They were happy to let their lickass friend Buddy get away with a hip to Hannan's head but they stuck the proverbial boots into Bugg.

I support Buggy because he is one of ours. You should too.

I'm with you and Buggy on this one Jnr.

Some of the media's response to this has been discusting, and I'm thinking mostly of channel 7's match day coverge and BT in particular, just didn't stop rabbiting on about it.  Just after Buggy gave his (in my view poor, cleche riddled, insincre sounding) interview with Richo, they then went on to show Mills gazing off despondently through the camera for some more vilification of Bugg.  Was poorly managed by the club really, they just should have issued a statement.  Good on Buggy for aparently wanting to face the cameras and the club for letting him, but I don't think it will happen again.  Anyways I fear all the over the top media coverage will have the effect of pressuring the AFL into applying a harsher penalty than what is deserved.  If players and club officials are effectively gaged by the threat of fines for some of their statements and conduct, the same should also be applied to the official broadcaster, particularly after players are reported.

As for these calls that Buggy has played his last game - pleeeease spare me.  He has value as a depth player at worst and he borders on our best 22 when he is in top form, fringe player admittedly, but I hardly think the club are going to drop him like a sack of spuds just because of this one incident.  Admittedly his form has fluctuated a fair bit over the past 4 - 6 weeks, goal kicking aside at times, he played a few fairly good games, but do I think he has lost the plot a bit after the whole JJ thing.  He's obviously done the wrong thing here, but if he cops his wack, then goes away from this, pulls his head in, learns from the past month, knuckles down and trains hard, he could be right back in the mix late in the season and or next.

He as been a bit of a goose of late, but he's not a complete Richard cranium either (which is apparent from some of the way he is liked by many of the MFC players), so let's not hang him completely for this.

It's probably been said somewhere but this is the third time that our boys have belted a player off the ball this year.

Hopefully we can begin to make the distinction between unsociable and unhelpful.

Playing tough means tackling hard, harassing, never giving your opponent time or space....It doesn't mean punching someone off the ball. I'm really annoyed with him & Lewis for that matter for that clip earlier on the season. Both very dumb acts.

The thing that gets me is with all the publicity surrounding punching over the past few weeks why would you even contemplate throwing one

I agree, Taylor and Brereton in particular should be keeping very quiet on this Both seem to have transformed themselves from absolute thugs to someones favorite uncle. Selective amnesia indeed. Let me prod our collective memories on Dermott

As he, himself said:

You'd look to take somebody out, and wilfully take them out, within the rules

So Dermott do these rules include stomping on a person's head as you did to RaydenTallis in 1994 and breaking or breaking Tony Free's jaw with a karate chop ?

Similarly Brian Taylor's histrionics should be a constant source of embarrassment to him.

Along with a propensity to "fall over" all the time

Hogan's I assume couldn't have.  Maybe delayed death... by 63 years.

I disagree with Doc by the way, but he is a medical expert with a microphone, so...

Thanks though, the AFL don't take any notice of Medical Reports........

Matthew Lloyd on The Footy Show just gave Bugg a serve. Lloyd must have forgot about his own last game of AFL football.

What exactly did Mills do to "start" it?

At the start of the game Mills ( dlckhead that he is ) runs to Bugg and lays an elbow style whack into Bugg. Bugg retaliates.  It's often just called argy bargy but in this instance Bugg unluckily lands a pearler on Mills..More fool Mills.

Again for mine..got exactly what he deserved. So probably will Bugg...actually he won;t, he'll get scapegoated and handed something ridiculous

Is amazing how many of these idiot commentator types suddenly become reborn pacifists !!

Lloyd...handy with feet...can use one to kick a goal or put both in mouth simultaneously !!

I remember when he used an "Arm Guard" to smash Josh Thurgoods cheekbone.
Kid never played again.
I also remember how he smirked through an interview about it when he got off.

This is also the same poser the AFL had to implement 30second shot clock for.

I really like Bugg.

Silly act obviously, which he no doubt regrets - but he plays on the edge and he represents the new era for this club.

He's hard at it and he's always present and willing to step up for his team-mates.

In fact, I love the bloke.

Trial by media and disappointing that a number of Demonlanders have been sucked in and are joining in the chorus. Take a step back ffs.

The media has conveniently pitched this as good versus evil re Houli and Bugg. Houli is a great bloke and Bugg is a [censored] ant. The only trouble with this is that Houli knocked someone out cold before he hit the deck. Bugg did not knock his opponent out, as mindless as his action was. And given that it's all about the medical report, Bugg really shouldn't get more than Houli. Or have the rules conveniently changed again to satisfy whipped up media blood lust?

And for those saying 6+, you've got to be kidding. So it was as bad as Hall's hit on Staker? Not by a country mile.

Do you have a video of that? Would love to tag Lloyd in it and give him a serve.

These former players really have short memories of some of the thuggish things they did. Leigh Matthews calling for a sin bin. If they had one when he was playing he would never of finished a match on the field!

I'm disappointed in Bugg's actions but the media response is just ridiculous. He f'd up and admitted it.

Also all the Swans players coming out complaining. Barry Hall's hit was one of the worst in history.

The double standards are astonishing.

As an aside, BT's tirade following the incident was bloody pathetic. As if that bogon has any standing to comment on 'unclassy' acts. He should listen to some audio of himself sometime soon and then immediately retire. I don't want his voice trespassing in my house anymore.

Bugg apologised and has shown genuine remorse. Plainly he regrets the incident. In fact, he has displayed a lot of class since the spur of the moment, stupid act.

I already liked the bloke, but his actions since the incident have reaffirmed my view of him - he is a top clubman and he is genuinely invested in this club.

I hope he uses the break to work on his set shot kicking skills.

i agree with the idea of a send off rule, i remember our last grand final when an essendon player layed out one of our key players that day, cannot remember if it was a legal bump or a hit, but it did leave us with one good player short.  in a grandfinal some players may be happy to take a shot at a couple of the best opposition player as winning the grandfinal is probably a lot more important than being suspended for the first couple of matches for the following year.  Having said that a send off rule would have seriously shortened big carls last game for us, which was very amusing to watch.

Anything over 5 reduced to 4 and the club must appeal.

Bugg is the instigator every single week, poor Bugg can give it but can't take it?

And calling the punch unlucky, or he didn't mean it, please. He's left handed, and trains boxing all preseason and most weeks. If he wanted to hit the chest he'd hit the chest.

The witch hunt is unfortunate, but it's deserved. After weeks of the AFL cracking down on any punches, then Houli, and Barry Hall and Staker on tv the very week, Bugg drops a bloke with a left cross. Incredibly stupid, ill timed, violent and deserves all the punishment and vocal outrage he cops.

For the record I'm not a Bugg hater, I like the way he goes about it to get the most out of his limited abilities. I just didn't like this.

And for those claiming double standards comparing this to the Hogan, Vince incidents etc... fringe players don't get the luxury of making such big mistakes. It's just the way it is and always will be.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs.
