Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

AFL Appeals Houli Tribunal Decision

Character references during sentencing are generally from a friend or family member who have known the accused for their whole life. Turnbull wouldn't have even known who Houli was until he shook his hand when he and Houli attended a function together earlier in the week.

Turnbull's speech would have also been written by someone else, it's quite pathetic that an excerpt of the speech was allowed to be admitted during the hearing.

The system is in need of a massive overhaul and restructure (but we already knew is).

But the Academy  ,the Academy, you know the one that has helped thousands of children play football separately from the racist children.Basher did that .And the much needed prayer room for the devout you see everywhere at footy games.

He has had to battle ignorance and prejudice you see.

Where is your pity??

If Waleed is backing him it's fine.(Waleed would never excuse violence would he)

Not only is it pathetic to paraphrase the PM without permission - it's dishonest and deceptive.

I'd like to see Bitter But Optimistic give Houli a character reference at the the appeal.

He'd get 10 weeks and a jolly good flogging.

He might never play again

(and still get a jolly good flogging)

Very touchy this thread.

Its a fact that this MRP decision is a first. It's unprecedented that the AFL is appealing its own tribunal decision.

Why you might ask? Good question and one it seems we aren't allowed to delve into too much here.

But it will be interesting when Houli runs out again and there is boo-ing. I envisage another Adam Goodes scenario and a media beat up

AFL: If the Board believes character evidence should come into account, it should limit Houli's penalty to four weeks rather than bringing the penalty under four weeks. However, it's irrelevant to look at Houli's off-field record.

Why would anyone boo him?

The AFL isn't doing too well at the Appeal.  Houli's lawyer is really stiching them up.

The AFL lawyer appears to have stuffed up the initial Tribunal hearing.  It is my guess he took the outcome of 4 weeks for granted and has now tried to present new evidence and question evidence that he failed to do at the Tribunal.

If the 2 weeks stand, justice will have been done but I doubt it will be seen to have been done and a right royal hornet's nest has been opened!

Houli was suspended.

Who ever said he wasn't?

Protected species is what I said and compared it to Hall who should have been suspended but also got a ridulously lenient penalty.

I booed Hall I will boo Houli unless things change drastically.

It seems to me you are trying to play indemnity politics and think Houli should be excempt from being booed just because of his religion. Players have been booed for 100 years I don't care about there race, sexuality or religion.

I think when I saw the incident the first time I immediately thought four weeks, two weeks doesn't feel enough. Good character shouldn't be relevant, I think they should just look at the act, the act alone is worse than two weeks.

Good character shouldn't reduce the penalty by two weeks

Houli gets four weeks.

Bit surprised.  Following the case suggested otherwise.

AFL pulling strings again as it did with the Tribunal during the ESS drugs hearing.

Nothing changes!

Just one of those things footy oafs do I guess. Houli wasn't on the tribunal last time I checked. It makes absolutely no sense to boo him.

Poor old Houli. Only footy oafs would dislike a coward punch.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
