Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Time to bring in Dean Kent? Fantastic game last week....

Maybe my memory is deceiving me, but while watching the Casey game I thought Kent looked rather lacklustre/disinterested.

Oh, I thought he was good - fess up, that I saw only about half the game, but his running, tackling and making space was very good - as was JKH's

BenK, I'm not sure about as he butchered the ball a bit...

It's an interesting selection dliemma.  You'd think that Wagner would be a straight swap for Salem but for Garlett, I see three options - Kent, Kennedy or JKH.  JKH has been playing more of an inside mid role rather than forward, so will they go with the roles that they have been playing at the VFL?  Of the three, Kennedy produces the best forward pressure in my opinion but the final decision is a toss of the coin job.

Mebbe - but he's a turnover king at the moment...

I secretly hope that one of them makes the team and the AFL's team selection website stuffs up and accidentally abbreviates the name of that player to Ken.

How about White in for Salem and Josh Wagner replaces Hunt at the back and Hunt goes forward

It's interesting on Wagner in to release Hunt forward, as the Swans like to bottle up and grind out games (which we're good at too) so a line breaker (Hunt) behind the ball can be invaluable.. Also reckon two HBFs in for Jeffy and Salem is one too many, given its likely to be a contested slugfest I'd give JKH another crack at a midfield role (Jones' role) and hope he kills it.

Well Kent, JKH and Kennedy stayed with Casey group at end, but could be smokescreen I suppose

So that leaves Wagner and ? to replace Salem and Garlett?

Essendon caught out Sydney with speed forward of the ball and out the back, so why not Hunt as a forward

I personally love Hunt up forward, but having lost Salem, that's a lot of pressure on Hibbo to be doing the attack from the backline. Means Vince needs to really take it up a notch off half back.

I definitely do NOT want Frost doing the majority of backline attacking. If he's on Buddy, I rather he concentrates purely on ensuring he doesn't win them the game!

How does hamstring tightness for Watts goes from a "expected to play against WCE", a "hopeful for Sydney" to a "week by week proposition"? Will the same happen to Jeffy? Who knows when we'll have a full strength forward line.

Hammy's can be a bit fickle and normally you don't know how they'll react until you put on significant speed, that's probably why it's a week to week proposition, Watts might have felt good on a day he only extended to say 75% but felt tight the next when he went to 90%, no point having someone off early in a match. Jeffy will be the same, except he does seem to come back pretty quickly from them. If we played a day or 2 later my guess is that he would have been fine (guess only though).

I also think the speed of Hunt and Frost will really worry Buddy. He likes to get it  60-70 out and wheel around either looking for a target or having a ping for goals, those 2 have the speed to force a decision from him quickly which he's been troubled with lately.

Pretty sure he is saying that both White and Wagner come in to fill Hunt and Salems half back roles. Hunt would then play forward. It would mean a big change to our back 6. But I can see Satys logic. I really dont know about White though...

Wagner in for Salem

Kent in for Garlett

Not ideal but we are digging into depth now. If the teams brings the right intensity we will win. At our best we can beat anyone now. It's going to be tough with so many of our top players out and coming off a short break back from the west.

Isnt Hunt that very speed out of the back ?

Kent would have to be a certainty, you need to replace Garlett with a small forward, its vital to our gameplan.  Unless Dion Johnstone is called up for a shock debut, Kent is in.

In - Kent, Wagner

Out - Salem, Garlett

Would love to find a spot for JKH, but theres no clear opening and he can not play as  a small forward.

I was at the game and it was their speed from half back that killed the swans but bear in mind once you turn inboard at the SCG  its a short distance to the goal. In fact they did what the swans used to do. I would keep Hunt back rather than forward.

This post is getting a lot of love.

We all saw Hunt forward for huge chunks of game time against the Eagles. And if it doesn't work, it's not like he can't go back if needed.

It's not a bad idea at all.

Indeed it's not, although everything else being equal, I'd prefer Kent's bigger body against the Swans (provided of course that he's prepared to use it).   The team will need to be selected with maximum flexibility in mind this week as there's quite a few variables ie does TMac need to go back if Buddy gets off the chain on Frosty or OMac.  In that sense, I'm more comfortable with Kent's ability to role through the midfield if Hunt got swung forward for example, than I am with JKH's ability to make a major impact at half forward.  Similarly, Wagner probably a few more strings to his bow at this juncture than White.  For us to win, Lewis, Vince, Viney and Tyson will have to play to their full potential I think against Hanneberry, Kennedy, Parker and Heeney.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
