Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Talk about a sore loser.

I reckon I can guess what he'd say if he read that comment.

Booooooooooo

Seriously, can Wet Toast fans even speak English or do they just wander around booing at each other? In between throwing elbows at 19 year olds of course.

Let's stop focussing on Clarrie.

Let's have a closer look at the sniper who hit him. Will Schofield. Stats for the game 3 kicks & 3 HB, DE a mighty 50%. He only had 3 effective possessions the whole game.

This is the quality of this terd. Clarrie pushes poor lil' Shuey in the chest. Sookfield sees no umpire in his line of vision, Clarrie is wide open and not expecting to have to defend a head-hit so he snipes him flush on the chin. "Tough guy" who's having a s*** game snipes a 19 year old kid because he thinks he'll get away with it. Or perhaps because he knows that it you hit someone, the focus immediately turns away from you on to whether the guy you hit staged or not. Gets reported instantly by an umpire standing 2 or 3 metres away over his right shoulder who had an unobstructed view of the front-on hit.

By far the most cowardly and low an act that I can remember seeing in a sports competition. If Clarrie was in a situation where he expected that a snipe might come (which is what makes it a snipe rather than a fair hit) he probably could have ridden the hit to some extent. But he was wide open. If Hogan got 3 down to 2 for the hit on Rowe, Sookfield should get at least that.

But by far the worst part is the idiots on this site who want to say that the 19 year old staged what was only glancing blow. Just pathetic.

Well, I recon Sookfield did us a favor.  From what I recall of the game, Clayton was well held and had little impact in the first half.  Getting that little clip had him breathing fire and he was awsome in the second half.

I'm sick of it to be honest. I am sick of watching players do these type of things -  only to cop a slap on the wrist by the MRP. I don't think this incident was as bad as Reece Conca elbowing Devon Smith to the back of the head as he was leaving the ground, but the Oliver incident is still assault in my mind. Schofield probably won't even get a week. I am sick of the AFL. If a player is hit outside of a contest then it is most likely going to be assault. If my son was playing AFL and he was hit outside of the contest I would be asking the club to seek a please explain from the AFL. It that didn't satisfy then I would hope the club pursued some sort of legal action, otherwise I'd do it myself. This game of AFL is no justification for players to go around assaulting people. I never understand this. I have seen some terrible things in minor leagues as well, things that just make me sick. There is no excuse at all to be assaulting players. All clubs have had players do it but its about time the AFL did something about it.

I feel Hogan's is the closer parallel, all of us at the time thought there was nothing in it and the more you look at it the more you realise Rowe wasn't faking it.

[EDIT] I still think 3 down to 2 for Hogan was a disgrace, at worst 2 down to 1. But then we don't get luck with the tribunal.

The Hogan one was at least in play. Schofield elbowed Oliver after the quarter had finished.

Just been having a look at the twitter banter, would've been fine from Martyn if he hadn't tagged Oliver in it, he probably would've just let it go through to the keeper (going with the cricket theme). But fair enough he bites back at the [censored] when it's directed straight at him.

Dry your salty tears Damien, Olivers a harder nut than you'll ever be.

(By the by, I used to hate watching him bat, sooooo boring!)

And as I recall some of the media were saying that it was OK because he meant to elbow him in the neck but it just slipped upwards !!

Really - and no mention of elbowing high, off the ball, medium impact (drew blood).

Maybe we should have called in the Carlscum Quack.

And just watch, the blatant hypocrisy at AFL HQ who one week say that striking just has to be stamped out "for the integrity of the game" (LOL) then let some old hack get away with this with at very most a fine, or week or two.

There was actually a far more obvious soccer style 'dive' earlier in the game.

Go back and watch in the 1st Q when the eagles go i50 over the back to Petrie. Jetta was with him and caught underneath and they grappled a little, holding each other. When the ball was eventually out of his reach Petrie just folded at the knees. He had the stronger position in the contest and arguably Jetta would not be capable of grounding a 200cm 100kg 300 game player in any case. It was as clear as mud and I'm surprised none of you have mentioned it.

I am not disputing the free kick, which was likely there as jetta didnt always have eyes for the ball. But given the size differential between the players, the ump wasnt going to pay it unless DP went to ground, so he did.

This was an in play staging attempt that resulted in a free kick and a goal if memory serves, exactly the same thing we all hate about soccer.

Clarries hit was at HT, no free kick could be given anyway. Why would he have staged? I honestly think it just caught him off guard.

Check out Clarry's new Twitter profile picture:

I know, angles and all that, but if it's not 1000 words, it's close!

Clayton Oliver

frankie D, thanks for that picture. first thing you notice is the angle of Schofield's upper torso. He actually moved his body over to his right to contact him on the chin. Amazing.

Secondly, if Clarrie didn't have his right hand where it was the contact could have been more lethal.

Third if it goes to the MRP, for any reason, the public will need to know why Bartel has to RECUSE (love that word) himself!

Fantastic, isn't it, how the media focus diverts from a WCE player who elbows an opponent to the jaw, not in play, very bad look for the game (something that the AFL go on and on about)  to the victim's reaction.

So bloody typical of the media, and the AFL.

Exactly what I'm saying. The guy clipped him with his elbow and now Clarry is the villain. Bulltish

Just watched the replay of the 2nd quarter, and jeez I wish they'd show it at normal speed again when they're talking about it. The slow-mo replay makes his fall look ridiculous; the initial camera angle, playing at normal speed, it's obvious that it's a completely natural reaction. There's 100% nothing to see here. Any boxing or MMA fan has seen guys drop in exactly the same way a hundred times.

On a flat deck, with little chance of physical harm, he actually looked quite good.

On a deck with some life, or against a physically attacking bowler, he could be relied upon to go to water fairly quickly.

Look at his neck.

The compressed lines appear as the elbow hits.

Its very obvious if you look at his neck at the right time.

Low impact for sure, but I've seen boxers knocked out cold, from what appeared to be a nothing blow.

A one week penalty at most would be a fair outcome.

He is such an attention seeking [censored].

Tim Watson actually disagreed and said he definitely got him on the chin

Lyon is being a fool, Oliver can do whatever he liked, he was the victim here.

The way people are carrying on you would think that Schofield was within his rights to elbow Oliver.

Get stuffed then Gary, 2nd year player who has never taken a dive once AND there was definite impact! There was no reason for him to dive, no chance of a free, no chance of a 50, I think at worst he overreacted to the contact and he bloody well got him.

Lyon's credibility is rating below Hutchy, Barrett, and Slobbo. After his year away he's trying to gain relevance again, big target taking on a 19 year old.

I was really [censored] off with Darcy saying there was no force so Oliver dived. Schofield used his elbow he should be rubbed out and he should clip Darcy with his elbow on the jaw & so that pratt knows how it feels.

Darcy is an utter fool. I wonder how he manages to stay alive each day, let alone how he stays in the media.

Oliver's problem is that he has staged before.

I reckon he might have put some mayo on it on Sat nite.

If he doesn't pull up his socks he will get a rep like Shuey or Lindsay Thomas. Hard to shake.

When's Oliver staged before? I've only ever know him to take the force of players bigger than him and dish it back. Didn't he get kicked in the head last year and walked it off?

Dunno. I haven't sat him down for an interview.

I know he was hit. But I reckon he just made sure the ump knew it.

My main point is, you can get a reputation very easily and once made, it's hard to shake. I don't want him talked about the way Shuey and Thomas are. Even Selwood's reputation is tainted.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
