I think if Gawn isn't ready then spencer is. Hogan might also be ready.

Also salem goes straight in.

not too sure who goes out if spencer/Gawn, hogan and Salem play.

 Pedo? Bugg? O mac?

Pedo has given his all. You couldn't possibly drop him. Bugg gets plenty of the footy - just butchers it. Wagner goes for Salem IMO. Wait and see what happens with Casey.

Deespicable,I totally agree with you on O'Mac that he should be tried as a forward. I don't think by dropping him that we have the height to combat the Pies talls. This is another must win game for us and beating the Pies is always nice.

Does TMac deserve his spot at the moment? 12 possessions at 50 percent efficiency doesn't cut it. If Hogan comes back I would drop him before his brother.

Two for one deal sounds good!!! Drop both!!  Is Anthony Ingerson available?? Maybe Earl Spalding?? How the hell we ever let him go to Carltank will forever remain a mystery!

I love MFC winning just before a bye. 2 weeks of enjoyment !!

I doubt that Cox or Moore will do much damage for the filth. More concerned about Fasolo and Elliott.

Fasolo and Elliott are their most dangerous forwards. Moore isn't ready yet to be KPF #1 and Cox, when he gets a game, doesn't hurt much.

With Frost on Lynch, OMac and Hibberd waxed it a bit as the loose man down back and also covered 2-metre Peter.

Like many DLs I can be critical of O-mac at times but throughout the game his intensity was high. He went in hard for the tackle when he needed and often flew almost maniacally for the spoils. He missed a few but invariably Hibberd was hanging at the back to clear up, but he also got quite a few spoils. Obviously his brother would have taken more marks as the sweeper but overall he did a pretty good job - the fact that Wright and Lynch didn't dominate is partly attributely to him.

As to the two errant kicks to Hunt to the grandstand wing, he may have had difficulty judging the boundary line because it was a really light line and at dusk was nigh on impossible to see.

Did he do enough to retain his spot. Yes. If T-mac returns to the defence does he keep his spot is another question but one that you need to wait and see what happens if and when Hoges and Gawn return.

My final comment on Oscar - he's coming along fine and if his intensity remains, he should stay in the side. He's not mega quick but he is mega fit and we have Frosty to play on the quick leading talls anyway. My wish now is that he get a game soon where they play him as a forward - as part of his development and he might surprise a few with his kicking for goal - he is one of the best kicks in the side- he gets into strife in the slow build ups

Great summary. Thanks

On the Pies talls - Cox has played 4 games (round 7 was his last), averaged 8 disposals and 2 marks per game. He's kicked a total of 2.3.

White has played 4 games (round 4 his last). He's averaged considerably more disposals and marks and has booted 5.4.

The only forwards they have that can boot goals are Elliott and Fasolo, who we should be able to cover pretty well.

We only need the one tall (Frost?) on Moore.

Not sure I'd be comfortable playing an underdone Hogan and Gawn on Queen's Birthday.  Having said that, I'll be very nervous throughout Maxy's first game back, no matter when that might be.

Not as nervous as the other team's ruckman ... :)

The radio (ABC) said that a move from forward to ruck saw an improvement - I think they meant in his (Tmac's) efficiency.

I think they actually meant in terms of getting him out of the forward line.

If Hogan in TMac could go back (not a forward) OMac out.Salem for Wagner who only came good late. Harmes kicked 3 goals but otherwise only average. ANB is safe.

I'd take a 3 goal Harmes game over a Bugg game where he never even looks like coming close to accurately kicking one through the sticks. Bugg definitely should make way this week imo.

I know Vince had a good game shutting down Sloane a few weeks back, but I feel he has been getting by on past exploits for the most part this year. Not only has his output dropped off but he is still making the same silly turnovers he always has. If he doesn't lift soon I would expect he will be out before the other usual suspects in ANB, Bugg and Harmes going forward

Not sure if many noticed but I can't recall 4 Melbourne defenders contesting a pack mark (like we have all year).

The coaches may have addressed this with Hibberd waiting back

Waiting to see who is available before I comment

I see your thinking about this but IMO one of the best game's he's played as a defender yesterday. Stopped his man, provided defence first and then provided a bit of a calming influence every now and then. thought he played well.

As for my ins

Out: Bugg (an absolute liability, my dad and I groan in despair every time he touches it), maybe wagner? But you'd be hard pressed to get a clear person to drop

Ins: Hogan (depending on fitness), Salem

If Maxy is in that would be amazing but I'd say he needs a week or two more

Also kudos to Melksham, was bloody terrific :)

Outs: O-Mac (Collingwood are short up forward and he has no match up) - Bugg (0.7 in 2 weeks isn't good enough in a finals team)

Ins: Hogan (Reading between the lines, he has a 2 week period to train to get himself going) - Salem (Best 22 errrry day of the week)

FB: Jetta - Frost - Hibb

HB: Hunt - T.Mac - Lewis

C: Vince - Jones - Melksham

HF: Trac - Hogan - Harmes

FF: Garlett - Watts - Hannan

R: Ped - Oliver - Viney

I: Tyson - Salem - Wagner - ANB

With Salem coming back in, and with Lewis and Hibberd down back, I think it's time to have Vince back in the midfield, either as a permanent tagger (he could go with Pendles) or on the wing pushing forward. I think he's been a little shaky down back, which wasn't his preferred position anyway.

I'd want him to be an aggressive tagger as well, don't just limit your man but try and win your own ball and score on him as well. I think he could be one of the most effective at this in the comp.

Bit harsh on Bernie mate.

He is the teams Mr Fixit or go to player from the opposition who is giving us grief.

He does a hell of alotof work of the ball?

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
