Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Spencer for Gawn is a downgrade.

Frost for O. McDonald is a big upgrade.

Bugg for Smith is just different.

As long as Frost is 100% percent fit.

How did weed stay in?!

I suspect Weideman is looked upon as someone that needs a strong forward next to him like Hogan or Watts, in order to grow and develop. So last week wasn't the best condition for making an assessment on his presence in the team.

Weeds is obviously the tall we need because he brings the ball down. Bringing in Frost AND Pederson would have been dangerous. I just don't see Pederson changing our forward structure much especially seeing as we had 100 scoring shots last week.

Weideman survived another week as Hogan is out of the side.  He's horribly out of form but you get the feeling that the FD rate him highly and want to get games into him as quickly as possible.  The Freo backline isn't all that flash so they may be hoping he can play himself back into a little form.  If we can get 3-4 goals out of him this weekend we go a long way to winning the game.

1-2 goals and he does his job. He's at every aerial contest, which is what we need.

Me included. Thought he held up. Skeptical of rushing Frost in.

Well they better give Watts plenty of time forward, because frankly Weed by himself disappearing will lose us games.

Is he, though?  If he got to lots of contests then you would feel he would accumulate more than 4 touches a game, like he did last week.  He needs to continue to work on his tank going forward as I don't think he hits as many contests as he should.

Hmm what I mean is he's demanding the attention of the defenders by going up at the contest. I suspect this is why he's still in the side, next to not wanting to bring in two players without match fitness. He went up a lot on the weekend and you'll see that he was involved in a lot of contests even if he didn't get the ball. I agree he isn't getting enough of the ball but I suspect that so long as we can hit the scoreboard as we did last week albeit without converting, then he's safe.

I thought Weideman, Tyson and Hannan all played far worse than Oscar, but it is probably a horses for courses selection.

I probably would have dropped Hannan and kept Oscar bringing in Frost which would have given us more options forward/ back and pinch hitting in the ruck.

That is why I am not a selector.

It's going to be nice having some size and strength in the back line.

Happy with Frost's inclusion.

Unhappy with zero size/strength in the forward line.

We had 32 scoring shots with less size last week. I think we'll be right.

I certainly hope Frosty has developed his spacial awareness more and won't go on a run out of defence without looking so often, it was his glaring weakness last year and one that we can ill afford to tolerate for too long.

I reckon he'll be tasked with that less now that Hunty is in full swing - but he may also get away with it more as the speed in our defence will spread out the opposition more.

Pressure for spots is great.

I doubt Oscar is disappointing match committee, more-so they like what Frost brings and Oscar is the direct replacement because they don't want to play both.  They would have explained to Oscar that he's doing well, but there are still areas he needs to work on.

I'm liking the selections this year far more than last year.

@stevethemanjordan just had his Christmas and birthday all at once with the omission of Oscar.

Nice dig.

You could alternatively have just congratulated me on my astute observations. I called it with Garland, who you defended at all costs.

I'm not writing him off as a player just yet, (although I'm not confident in the same way many are on here). But obviously, he is not playing to the level required.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
