Our tall backs are still a huge problem, and guys like Oscar and Weed should be developing at Casey as they are not ready for the firsts just yet. Would rather have Frost and Peterson any day.

Tyson was quiet as was Vince and Viney has had three below par games in a row, captaincy weighing him down?

I don't want to hear excuses about Gawn being down or the umpiring going against us (as it undoubtedly did).

The game was lost by our own feet.

But if we learn from this and harness it to drive the rest of our season forward, then it hasn't been all for nought.

Jones was terrific today. What a champ. He is an out and out A grader. He has taken that extra step. Kept us in the game with his clean pick ups and crisp disposals.

Watts was pretty good too. The rest of the team contributed, but a couple of guys that worry me at the moment are Vince and Viney. Still not convinced by ANB's decision-making either.

Remaining as philosophical as can.

No point crying over spilt milk....when you're doing the spilling !!

Some will suggest it was lackibg Max. Some will suggest the umpiring abysmal. It was. It wasn't what beat us.

Our kicking was deplorable. I could do better with many of those close goal shots. Its not that hard under a roof... But that wasn't what beat us.

They didn't win it nearly as much as we systematically squandered opportunity after opportunity.

We played like an unsynced gearbox. We clunked through the motion in what was really a haphazard frenzy.

I won't single out players ( be to easy ) For a team ( talented ) we fluffed it.

We LOST it.

We can learn. We can benefit from this game....tomorrow onwards.

Tonight...well..,that was shlt.

Some shots we missed became laughable, seemed to be getting worse as the game wore on. Some great acting by Selwood sealed the game. Max could be out for a bit, so we need to learn how to restructure without him. Think we really missed Lewis down back, adds a lot of compose and leadership. The loss we had to have? Is anyone coming up for scrutiny by MRP? There was some mention on the radio after the match, re some Melbourne players actions, but i didnt hear any elaborations.

In years past the cues would be slamming into the racks accompanied with disgust and frustration.

We lost, we shouldn't have ( despite all considerations ) but we did.

Now we find out how far we've truly come

Go Dees

Feeling the same Beelzebub. Trying to maintain my usual state of calm but FMD, how hard is it to slot it from right in front. I repeat, FMD.

We've been riding for a fall by not having a decent back up for Max, and I don't mean an automatic Spencer inclusion. Pederson is the one who is being shafted by our passion for owning 'the youngest 22' tag. Not only is he a better ruckman than Jack, he is a better key forward than Weiderman (at this stage). I am particularly disappointed in Weiderman. He has been given an opportunity, and 'belief' by the coaching panel, but he hasn't grabbed it with both (even one!) hand. First gamer, Smith, was better than him today. 5 good touches in three games is not enough!

Played better than the week before against Carlton.

Leadership was missing on the field at crucial moments. Jones & Viney both missed easy shots when the team needed a lift.

Smith, Hannan, Weideman - too much inexperience up forward. Gawn's injury weakened both the ruck and the already weakened forward line with Watts forced up to ruck.

Kent was great, glad to have him back.

We dominated 2nd and 3rd quarters - kids too tired by the finish and we got rolled.

Signs are good, both players and coaches will learn a lot from this.

Pertinent points.

The steadying calm and influential lifting goal from older wiser heads ( and Boots ) was missing when needed most.

Again...much to learn

19 missed shots at goal. Don't think any were rushed maybe one?

the worst was when they showed the map of where the misses were from, a lot of the misses were straight in front from 25m! We kicked them from the pocket.

Missed set shots, snaps you name it!

wtf

After the first half I thought, even if we lose, I won't be too disappointed - the effort is there, and this game is a cauldron.

I was wrong, I'm bloody gutted. Definitely one that got away. As ProDee said though, we lick our wounds and move on. The team we just lost to is vastly better than the teams we beat in the first two rounds, and we had them on toast but for our own finishing. This team is going places.

What I re-learnt B, is that Chris Scott is a fat, smug, overrated [censored] of a bloke who looks like one of those clowns you put ping pong balls in...but I'd like to replace the ping pong balls with a fist. So, yeah, I learnt today.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
