It all started on a day like today some ten years ago. The day of the 2007 Season Launch on 30th March when the teams met on a Friday night before a crowd that was just shy of 50,000.

That was a shattering loss. Completely killed my expectations and the season.

Yesterday !!!!!

Yesterday
All my turf sods seemed so far away

Now they've got me ready for the play

O I believe in yesterday

Suddenly
I'm all clodded like I used to be
I had hoped Adele would ruin me

O I believe in yesterday

Why ... they ... close the roof

I don't know

My grass can't grow

Play...ers... hack with studs

I'll be mud
Like yesterday..ay..ay..ay..

Yesterday
I was totally unfit for play

Now they've grassed me over in one day

O I believe in yesterday

Haaa, they chose Lonie instead of Acres as replacement. A lot of saints fans won't be happy with that.

Works in our favor. Acres is a good runner and ripped us apart last year.

Never been more nervous at the start of a season. It would have to be St Kilda at Etihad.

I’ve never been less nervous. I have absolutely no expectations that we’ll win, though I’m sure that will change as soon as they’re out there and competing.

Don't know about the weather in Docklands, but there were massive raindrops as I drove through Ivanhoe.

Pretty wet over in Ivanhoe, England I believe! Not surprising really!

Stand by, this will be a public relations nightmare for the AFL. I can just see it now Star player........... Insert name does major injury on shifting surface. Afl says Its not our fault!! AFLPA on behalf of player, sue of the AFL, Shitihad , Adele and whoever else is involved!!

Saw it in my tea leaves this morning!!

Might be a positive for us... could slow down their running game and make it more of a scrap.

as long as no one does an acl

Jonesy bounced the ball in one patchy area in the pocket down the coventry end and there was sand bouncing up.

After this game im keen to drop a nuke on this joint.

It's not shifting turf that is the problem. They insert blocks of turf with lots of earth so they do not move.

The problem is that each slab does not have time to "knit" with the next and like the lines in a concrete pavement there is the occasional disconnect with the next slab as well as it being minisculey higher or lower. Hit a crack running at full speed and it can be like stubbing your toe.... very dangerous to athletes.

The sand is poured in to minimise the affect of the cracks.

In 2-3 weeks the cracks fill naturally and the surface will be fine .... today.... who knows

And here we are again.

This will show how serious we are. In years gone by when we have had a new coach, it's always been a feeling of new beginnings.

This time around, there is a feeling of continuity. There hasn't been major surgery done to the list or to the club in general.

Hoping for a W but if life has taught me anything, nothing is guaranteed.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
