Oliver seems to have a tag on him, good learning for him. Viney and Jones are very quiet. Garland doing OK, Trengove unsighted, Watts and Tyson rusty, skills poor.

Funny I don't think we are playing well at all but we are still kind of in it.

Priddis was tagging Oliver.

All I wanted tonight was no injuries and to see Trengove get a run... seriously, why didn't we save on the airfare??

Tough quarter for us.  I thought we actually controlled large parts of it, but once again the turnovers let us down and we allowed them to kick some very easy goals.

The same players who were up and about at half time continued on in the third.  If we could clean up our disposal going forward then we could have hit the scoreboard more.

Make no mistake - the Eagles are a highly talented, well drilled outfit who know their own deck like the back of their hand.  This result is not necessarily unexpected.

Finally someone who views this for what it is... Refreshing!

Difference in the game is execution not effort. These calls for Melbourne of old and going to our heads is ridiculous. They are a good mature side on their home turf. We have executed poorly which has created multiple two goal turn arounds. Tyson showing how much he needed the run with some appalling execution and decisions. Desperate need for one less tall forward, an actual crumber and a backman like Frost, Hibberd or Smith that can quickly close a gap out the back.

Basically playing like this would in the past be 100 points.

Umpiring has been terrible. Playing WC at home, considering our sloppiness and turnovers we are actually going ok.

I thought Oliver would be in love with Max as he would make him look good.  I think Max would love Oliver as Max just needs to win the tap, tap it in the area of Oliver, and he will win it.

I'll admit, I didn't watch him as close as some in 16, but fark me, I'm a watching tonight, and I'm a loving.  I feel all Picket Fence all of a sudden!

Spot on, red.  Effort has been great, but it's deflating when we make simple mistakes that cost us goals.

As you say, the addition of Kent/Garlett, Hibberd and possibly Frost (if fit) will make us a better side.

Is Trengove able to come on as an interchange?

Yes.  He is on the 3 quarter time huddle.

WC working a lot harder.  Forward line disfunctional. Can't see much difference to what we dish up in the last couple of seasons.

Horrible with the footy. Worse without it.

Worst part for me is WC don't look like they've got out of 3rd gear.

Tyson thinks he's Pendlebury. Reality is more Godfrey.

A lot to work on. Scary part is the Saints kill us with easy goals out the back. And we clearly haven't fixed that.

They are just walking out of our forward line with the ball, we just can't keep it in there. Some very ordinary performances out there tonight and this might be a wake up call, our skill level is appalling.

I'm surprised they aren't further in front, they are just coasting and we are just not up to it.

This new deliberate is a joke. Just start paying the free against the last player to touch it and be done with it.

This game is a s boring as batshit.

Bruise free rubbish.

I'm just going to tentatively suggest, for consideration, that it is not so much that our overall kicking and disposal have been terrible, but that there have been a significant number of panicked, rushed or just straight bad kicks at important highly visible moments.

Starting to wonder what the story is with Viney and Tyson both only out there less than 2/3rds of game time.

If it means we leave Perth with no fresh injuries then it can be as bruise free as it likes.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
