Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Was reading an article about the highlights from the weekend and was shaking my head in disbelief when i read this.

Christian Petracca is a jet
The Melbourne midfielder came out of the same draft as Western Bulldogs gun Marcus Bontempelli – and was actually picked two selections ahead – but started at AFL level a year later courtesy of an ACL tear. We saw that Bontempelli's second season is when he became a star and Petracca is tracking the same way. On Saturday against Carlton at Casey Fields he kicked four goals from 19 possessions. There were midfield cameos but he was at his best across half-forward where he made every touch count.

Its unbelievable that some of these so called journos on a regular basis get information wrong which proves they do bugger all research.

In the Bontempelli draft, pick 2 was actually Jack Billings.

The AFL is now just too big. I think Demonland is a far bettter place to keep up to date with what is going on.

This site is not always right straight away but after discussion and debate it usually gets to the right spot

AFL journalists seem to get background from anywhere quite often

Using the pick we swapped for Tyson (& Salem)! A Win-Win all around! (As was Petracca and Brayshaw using our Frawley compensation!)

I'm not the smartest bloke and I'm the first to admit that.

The Bont was taken pick four in the 2013 draft and CP5 pick two in the 2014 draft

Well, that's what I am reading in wikipedia

Luckily, none of you are journalists - or maybe you should be :):):)

So the journo was right, the Bont was taken 2 picks behind Petracca, they just forgot it was 2 picks behind and 12 months before Petracca.

Was there? I don't remember him in the midfield at any stage. Unless they are referring to him starting at HB, which I doubt they even noticed.

It's hard to find an article without a mistake like this between the papers and the afl site.

Calling them journalists does a disservice to all genuine journalists. The greats of the past must turn in their graves. They are paid to write stories and have no concern about their sources or the accuracy of the information.  They are inept and lazy. Just think about it. If they were good journos would they be footy scribes. Like seagulls scrabbling for a feed.

I actually did an internship at a rather large Melbourne newspaper (it's not the one you think) and was rather gobsmacked at not just the general lack of research being put into developing stories, but also the lack of knowledge a lot of the journalists had on how to actually research. One source I recommended for a story -- which was a medical journal -- was dismissed by a senior editor because it was sourced by an article on Wikipedia. It wasn't *on* Wikipedia; it was sourced on it.

In another case, I questioned the date of a special event, 100% certain the date proposed during the briefing was wrong but I pretended I wasn't sure so I didn't seem like a know-it-all. The editor completely dismissed it and didn't even double check. It went to print and turns out my date was correct. In another case, the social media editor, whose role was nothing other than to come up with snazzy headlines and images for the social media profiles, had to subedit a journalist's article on a new Apple product because it was riddled with errors.

It gets worse: a major court case taking place at the time created a lot of tension in the office. One journo in particular was getting angry at the department editors because they were clearly driving a campaign, when the journalist suggested they should have been supporting the defendant if they were going to advocate (it was a civil case). The coverage was so narky and lacking in facts that 2 journalists actually resigned. One article in particular had to be retracted and the parent company was fined for contempt of court, despite numerous complaints by journalists that the coverage was unethical.

All in all the two-week internship quite literally turned me off working on *that* sort of media environment. The place was depressing af.

I posted this on the game day thread but it's probably more suited here....

Not sure if anyone heard the commentary on SEN but I thought Chris Connelly as special comments man was hilarious.

We've got a couple of new players which is great...Slalom apparently went alright yesterday and Gartlett is due back soon.

What I loved the most was that I'm pretty sure Chris was improvising a lot on players that he hadn't seen play much footy last year.

One example was how Slalom developed a lot of his game last year learning to play a defensive role at half back. Funny, I thought he missed a lot of the season and when at half back it was the defensive side of his game that was lacking.

Then he went on a rave about a Blue boy who's name escapes me know, he was just throwing stuff out there. The one about Murphy (who missed a lot of last year and has always been a good kick) getting his field kicking together last year was another beauty.

He's quick on his feet and if you didn't know better you might think he brings some insight...seriously Chris you're entertaining but do some homework.

Think Dermott without the homework....and that's what we got yesterday.

...let me add one more; he thought Tommy Mac was AA full back last year, when challenged finally he said something along the line of maybe he should have been.

I'm sure Chris is a really nice guy and a great raconteur, unfortunately, he is a motor mouth, and that was to our detriment a few years ago.

Best heard in a public bar.

Not the reflective type I'm afraid.

Although he is not alone. Dwayne comes to mind.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
