-Max Gawn to launch his own coffee line "I grind my own beans."

-Harmes to lead the club for turnovers and the lowest % for possessions retained

-Brayshaw to have a breakout season à la Jack Viney in 2016

-Oliver shall be publically acknowledged as the love child of Adam Cooney.

Seeing the Dogs won the GF from position 7 , and if we can match the game plan that suits our pretty talented team, and with another pre season under their impressive belts , I see know reason we can't go all the way !

I am dispensing with my negative mood I've had for umpteen years and embracing positivity for the foreseeable future MFC wise !

1) Casey wins the flag - easily. Trengove/Vince tie for B&F. Maynard wins Norm Goss Medal.

2) Goodwin admits he was brains behind diamond defence and the Kent/Petracca centre bounce roll, which all sides now try and copy. After his side masters zone defence, Goodwin tries an automatic switch to man-to-man defence at 25minute mark of every term. Takes David King all year to figure it out.

3) All-in brawl v Saints in Rd 1 with Lewis and Oliver suspended for two weeks.

4) Making finals for first time since 2006. Other 7 finalists are - GWS, Adel, Syd, Geel, WB, Rich (yes, Richmond) and St Kilda.

5) Five newcomers in 2017 - Hibberd, Melksham, Smith, McKenna and yet to be taken back up ruck/forward - Zac Clarke if delisted, Keilty if no Clarke.

6) Big surprise - Harmes plays every game, except for suspension.

7) Lumumba retires in April after two games in VFL.

8) Hoges AA CHF, Jones AA hbf, Gawn AA ruck.

9) Joel Smith takes mark of year of the year on a Lion (not Garry).

10) Roughy asks to join Dees in off-season.

Pedersen anyone?

Pederson will play about half the games and will be the back up ruck for Max, which is a far better option than playing Jack there, although I think plying Jack in the ruck has hardened him up quite a bit. The body contact is something he hasn't seemed to be comfortable with before and this has helped in my opinion.

Dom Tyson to have a consistent year and be one of our most important midfielders.

Hogan to put this year behind him and dominate throughout the whole season.

Frost to be just as important than Tmac

Garlett never fading from games and be a damaging forward pocket

Dees to make finals-just

Beat teams we should be beating

Lewis will play mostly off half back in a role similar to Matthew Boyd at the Dogs, because having him and Tyson and Oliver leaves us too slow in the midfield.

Hibberd will play more through the midfield than in defence to provide us some drive.

Melksham will be better than expected.

Salem will have a good preseason and finish top 10 in the B&F.

For me, Pedo has the tools to be a decent second ruck/third forward. He can take contested marks as well as just about anyone in the team and is a fair kick at the sticks. He can also swing to defence as a sweeping stopper to slow down an opposition run-on. We talk about better delivery aiding Jack and Jesse but what if Pedo starts consistently bagging a moderate two-goals a game? Does he get bumped for Weed and then we work out another second ruck option? Roos never had faith - preferring Dawes and then Frost - but given a decent run I believe he could be this season's surprise packet. Although Demonland will have to get over its prejudice. He may be getting on but was a late starter - entering his sixth season now - and has had injury interruptions. Watts himself took longer. He has also improved each season in the Red and Blue and may well continue that arc.

Predictions for 2017

Ladder Position: 8th - I"m going to go on a limb here and say that the AFL will give us and St Kilda a dream draw later today to see us both make the 8. Which will leave only BL and GC as the clubs in the last 4 years not to play finals.

Best & Fairest: Viney - I feel he is ready to take the competition by the throat and have already penciled him in to my dreamteam side for 2017.

Runner Up: Watts - I can see that his trajectory goes up and will move from 5th to 2nd.

Leading Goal kicker: Hogan (65) will come 4th in the Coleman and will be in the AA squad.

Who Goes To The Next Level?: Billy Stretch. There were moments last year where he just looked like he was going to that 'how did he get drafted so late' player. Expecting a 3rd year breakout from him.

All-Australians: We will have 3. McDonald, Viney and Gawn.

Best Rising Star Chance/Best Young Player: Weiderman will play 18 games, poll some votes, but I cant see McLuaggage loosing it.

Surprise Round 1 Selection: I was going to say Trenners, but I dont think it will surprise that many. I think that he and H will be in our Round 1 side which will have a few people on here in shock.

Demonland's new favourite player: Joel Smith - feel that we are going to see another Hunt like breakout from this young man this year. Has everything that is needed and a good back story. Watch the fairy tale happen.

Best win: St Kilda round 1 - sets the season off in a big way.

Worst Loss: 1st week of the finals - we are up and about and we get a reality check.

No AA for Jack Watts? You had him runner up before McDonald and Gawn.

Tracca to be a minnie A.Jakovich, who kicks more goals than Hogan/Garlett combined. Hannah will be an instant success, Hunt to be renamed  Flash Gordon due to his speed. Salem will dominate in the middle,he will be known as Salem's lot. The Maccas will rule the defence and most sides will be totally Maccered. Hogan will get a Buddy role floating down the ground. J.Smith will break into the seniors. T.Smith will be the starting FF. Weed will become ruck/Forward after round 5. Vince will end up going backwards.N.Jones will become a forward.Trengove will become a defender after round 7. Maynard will dominate at CHF for Casey.Frost to become a permanent Winger. We will end up 8th because we are the Dees with 13 wins. I will drink 30 bottles of Shiraz, more if we lose to trashy sides.

Bombers to knock on the door of the top four.

We will make the eight.

Tim Smith Debuts.

Watts and Hogan 100 goals between them.

Garlett struggles to hold his place due to poor discipline and defensive effort.

Gawn once again disappointed by the lack of love from the umpires on Brownlow night.

Given peeps are placing their 2017 predictions in the 2016 thread, it's time for a new thread.

Who are your surprise packets and big improvers for 2017?

What other predictions do you have relating to MFC's performance, results, anything (except injuries you jinxing ar$ehole)?

The post containing the best prediction or predictions (quality being relative to quantity) wins and will succeed 2016 winner @wretched.sylph

Surprise packets is a tricky one, because it wouldn't really be that big a surprise for a lot of our players to make big strides. I'm going to go for an optimistic call on Colin Garland, not to be suddenly extraordinary but just to find a regular place as an effective defender (I've never quite given up).

Big improvers would have to be Brayshaw, Petracca, Oliver and Salem, just based on doing what we know they can do, but for whole games and with some glitches smoothed out. I also happen to really like Oscar McDonald, who clearly got more games and responsibility than he was quite ready for in 2016, but made a decent hand of it. With a little more experience, meat and confidence I think he will stand up as a really capable tall defender.

So, if I'm right about those two, then the Demon's defense is looking terrific in 2017!

I'm really confident that the Demons will make the 8 in 2017, likely high enough to earn a home final.

Some miscellaneous achievements for 2017;

Melbourne will be the most accurate team in front of goals. (Goal-behind ratio)

Melbourne will lay the most tackles and Viney will lead the AFL for tackles per game.

Hogan and Gawn will both be in the top-5 for contested marks. (per game)

Tom McDonald will lead the AFL for 1-percenters. (per game)

Jesse Hogan will kick the biggest haul of goals in a single game for the season. (my guess; 11)

Melbourne will have no Rising Star nominations. (Even though Weidemann will have a solid development year)

Casey will win the VFL premiership after a start-to-finish dominant season. I think there's a powerful combination of multiple AFL-capable players who may need to fight for position through the VFL (Kennedy, Kennedy-Harris, Wagner, Harmes, Neal-Bullen, Trengove, Spencer, even Melksham and Bugg) and what must be a great morale boost to have two Casey players rookie-listed by the Demons.

Bulldogs to be the clear leader in throwing the ball

Colonwood supporters to finish top of the ladder for most, and loudest cries of "BALL"!!!!!

Freo supporters to set a new record for beer can throwing, and punching out oppo supporters.

Weagles to surprisingly look far better at home than away

Sydney to tie with GWS for raping the best talent at draft time, via academy picks.

Essedon to start the season on fire, and be labelled as "brave" by the Herald Sun.

Gollum McLaughlin to aid and abet an AFL player in avoiding a positive drug test, and a top 4 club for salary cap breaches.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
