Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Don't really fancy scrolling back 12 pages, does anyone know why Dawes and JKH didn't play and Hulett played 2's?

Dawes hasn't played for about 3 months now, not sure why. JKH didn't qualify for finals, as he missed too many games through injuries, and Hulett was ill so they thought it best to let him run a half-intensity game in the 2's before coming back into the 1's next week.

One thing I've really noticed in his VFL games recently is that Clayton Oliver is an excellent kick off both feet.

I can't remember him kicking off his left aside from a nice snap out of a pack. He does kick nicely on his right and part of him going back to the VFL I think should be to encourage him to kick more. The other thing I really want to see is him handballing on his left. If he can use his left hand then with his vision and movement in close the sky is the limit.

I'm kinda repeating myself here but I'll say it again anyway. If you can go to the GF, do it! The doggies will no doubt have a very strong contingent of fans that couldn't get tickets to the final in Sydney and will be full of voice.

Not only that but it could be your last chance to cheer on a few players who will be moved on at trade/delisting period.

On a completely different note am I the only one that thinks it's a bit unfair that the Dog got an extra day of rest compared to Casey give we finished higher on the ladder? Also I would've thought it would be better to play it on the Saturday as a sort of lead in to the the final on Saturday night.

Good day out at Port yesterday, we were having a celebratory ale in the Railway Club hotel post game, and in walks Plapp, Dan McPherson and a few of the other Casey coaches who were all too happy to have a chat to us. Salem won't get up, but Garland should be fine according to Plapp. A very content bunch they were!

Oscar McInerney and Declan Kielty gave their draft chances a big boost. Thought Morris and Munro were also very good of the casey listed players but Angus Scott had a very quiet day compared to 2 weeks ago.

Tim Smith is a very good vfl player who's been at the club 4 years now, to those that think he could be drafted i think his chance has passed, his inconsistency is the most frustrating aspect of his game brilliant one week unsighted the next.

Did it as naturally as he does on his right...I've seen it a few times.

...and yes he does need to kick more often, he will get the balance right over the next few years.

Thoughts on the game.

Lynden Dunn - BOG for me, following up his very strong Qualifying Final.  I'd be more then happy keeping him on the list for key defensive depth next year.

Colin Garland - Thought was ok.  Looks as though he injured himself when he ran himself into trouble late in the 3rd term.  Hopefully will be good for next week.  His ability to play small is important.

Matt Jones - Not a bad game.  Not the day for outside mids, but worked hard.

Ben Kennedy - Wonder if he's carrying something as he was very quiet.  I reckon he'll be important for us on the quick deck of Etihad, so hope he's ok.

Viv Michie - One of his quieter VFL games, but solid/

Alex Neal-Bullen - Thought he's caught some unfair criticism.  His disposal wasn't great, but he won that many clearances for us and set up so many attacking plays, that his disposal could be forgiven.  I agree that it will need to improve at Etihad however.

Ben Newton - Looks reasonably solid across half back.  Wonder if he'll get a run at another club next year?

Clayton Oliver - I love this kid.  Suffers a serious case of white line fever.  I loved his little jab at Dunnell in the 2nd term after Salem's knock.  Wouldn't of loved it if we lost a close one.  But looking back it puts a smile on my face.

Christian Salem - I know it was at VFL level and not AFL.  But gee that first term reminded me of how good he could be.  Real shame about the knock and that he'll miss next week given how valuable he'd be.  But I'm looking forward to a big 2017 for Salem.

Joel Smith - Realy happy for him to have a good game considering he missed the Qualifying Final.  He looks a likely type and I still don't think we've found a set position for him yet, so watch out after another pre-season.

Jake Spencer - Some people thought he was good, others thought he stunk.  I just thought it was a typical Spencer game.  Gave his all, competed, but did a few silly things also.  For me I have reasonably low expectations for Jake as I see him as an AFL depth ruckman only.  If another club offered him an opportunity I wouldn't hold it against him for exploring it and the club should be willing to let him go.  We could always pick someone like McInnerney up late in the draft as his direct replacement.

Jack Trengove - Thought he looked really good in the 1st term.  Much quieter after that however.  Loved his mark early also and seeing him stream through the middle of the ground to have a long shot at goal.  Watching him on the fast track of Etihad will be interesting....

Sam Weideman - After a great Qualifying Final he found the going tough in conditions that didn't suit.  I've got a feeling he could have a huge game in the Grand Final with a BOG 5 goal performance.  Touch wood....

Mitch White - Started well, but after landing on his ankle seemd to struggle after that, but still got through.  Hopefully he should be right as with no Salem, his kicking will be really important.

To win by 7 goals with no Grimes and a few injury issues was a great effort after Williamstown won by about the same margin earlier in the year.  Next week will be tough at a venue where many of the Bulldogs plays play and play well where out Melbourne players have a horrible record.  But, if like the Qualifying Final, our midfield can control the inside ball, not allowing the Dogs to get it outside quick to utilise their superior speed, then the Scorpions should be to strong.

Our VFL defence of Dunn, Garland, White, Hutchins and Michie since he's gone to half back have proved to be very strong and hard to score against, so a win in the midfield should see us with enough ball forward to get the job done.

Spencer, Trengove, Grimes, Neal-Bullen, Oliver, Kennedy, Matt Jones v Minson, Stevens, Hrovat & Honeychurch is the key IMO.  We should win out with weight of numbers, but it's no sure thing.  Hopefully the Weed, Terlich, Tim Smith etc can get on the end of a few and put us clear.

Go Scorps!

Viv had a nasty growth on hi shoulder for the first half. It was so big that it had its own number (32). Must have had it removed at half time because he was better in the second half. 13 tackles would have to be a personal best.

When kicking skills are a premium in the modern game, I still can't understand why Dunn can't be utilised somehow in a backline that consists of Frost and the Mac brothers. He seemed to have his cards marked, but hopefully that was a Roos issue rather than Goodwin. If he seeks a trade, he'd have more currency than any other player outside our best 22.

If he can play like he did yesterday he is a lock for our best 22. He was outstanding.

The problem as has been discussed here plenty of times is that he has found it difficult to adapt to our game plan and change the way he plays.

I think our defensive zone changed in the 2nd half of the year, and we had someone sitting back. For mine, that's a perfect role for Dunn.

Yes Mo the defensive set up early in the year leaked like a sieve ie I was at the Port game in Alice. It very poor coaching and later in the season we improved by having someone staying goal side of the contest. Was so obvious it was necesary, cannot believe Roos persisted with it for as long as he did but then I dont rate Roos as very good strategic coach

A great mark though. Will be pleased to see where he is at after another full pre-season and this season behind him. I am still in the "glass half full" camp as regards Trenners returning to his pre-injury peak.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
