What are our thoughts on Amon as a cheap pick up for some outside run?

I'm not for it. From what I've seen he shies away from the hard stuff and doesn't like getting his knees dirty. Good with ball in hand but a bit soft

Lions have apparently gone cold on Dunn, because they have Jack Frost. Unintended pun.

Not the worst thing to keep Dunn, who like Pedo, can also be a swing man in a number of positions and can kick a long goal as well.

That said I hope we can find a new home for Garland.

PS. I hope Grimes gets a new gig, he deserves another chance.

With GWS losing $1.1m in salary cap and having to reduce list size, I hope we are targeting someone on their list. Other clubs seem to be. Of course no point just getting a dud for the sake of getting someone, but they have lots of talent not getting a game.

Spot on. We've strategically built a good trade relationship with them, and with so many good draft picks still for them to use they will need to either trade out a fair few or possibly trade multiple picks for single higher picks IMO. Mahoney has shown he's the master of these kind of deals so wouldn't be surprised to see us do something with them, possibly even for a future pick so GWS can space out their additions and we can get more involved in this draft. Plus, I feel like because of who and where they are they would have to overpay more often than other clubs, so the cap space could become a really big issue for them, hopefully.

I know it would be really tough to pull off, but i'd be putting a good financial offer infront of Jacob hopper or Josh Kelly and just seeing if it tempts them, the drawback of having the level of talent the Giants do is they can't pay them all, Josh Kelly is exactly the type of player our club needs, i know it'd be vitually impossible but there are some very good young players at the Giants and if you rattle the tree something is bound to fall out.

I'd love to get josh Kelly for no other reason than to shut up the haters that said we gave up the chance to get him when we traded pick 2 I think it was to secure Tyson and Salem

I reckon had we kept pick 2 we would have taken the Bont anyways, i heard Roosy at a function after barretts comments talking about how we didn't rate Kelly at pick 2, and then went on to talk about how he felt big midfielders were the future of the AFL

having said that he's never going to get the $$ at GWS that he might get elsewhere so it's definitely worth asking the question of a few of these guys, because they're loaded with top end talent and can't hold on to it all.

The Bont went pick 4.

TBH I don't think we had Bont that high.  Billings would likely have been the pick if we held onto pick 2.

I've also heard we highly rated Matt Scharenberg

Funny this, because I heard we were taking Salem without any doubt. Hence why we didn't mind shuffling back a few picks.

Apparently one of our leading scouts watched 15 games of Salem live over 2 seasons. That same scout was adamant we select hunt , which if I'm correct was the same draft?

Would have been, as they played school footy together.

Kelly also played in that team

If we did any deal I imagine it'll be for a fringe player they might get rid of anyway, or potentially a player who has been on the outer for injury reasons and now sees themselves as back in the pack.

Maybe someone like Jarrod Pickett, who was pick 4, but has been out all year with a foot injury (caveat emptor) but was rated very highly for his run and spread in his draft year. Not sure how we'd get him, maybe a swap of our 2017 first rounders (given GWS see themselves as top end contenders). Otherwise we have little or no currency to give up.

Extend the scout's contract now.

Is it me or apart of Hibberd, does it sounds like we're going to have a very quite trade/FA period?

Is it a case of we're comfortable with what we have available? I feel like we're still lacking in a bit of outside run and that's something we should be targeting.

With Hibberd and Melksham coming in to play HB I wouldn't mind betting Hunt, Salem, Harmes, Stretch will be looked at for outside run.  All good options IMO

Not sure about Harmes and Salem in terms of outside run. Both a bit slow i reckon and Harmes' kicking a worry. I reckon Salem an inside mid and Harmes a half forward flanker is the go.

I would be targetting the Suns to try to get a early draft pick they have quite a few and may want to actually swap some for either next year or more mature players to help them rise next year. I doubt they want to use all of their draft picks onh young players that would leave them with a very youthful and inexperienced team.

Why would we want to give Essendon a boost in the draft order? Stuff `em they can have 27!

Yep P27 to bummers, get it over & done with early.

Then move on our other trade interests like Garland (if true) & P45 to Lions, for P29, or a player that suits us?

or Dunn's trade.

Dawes if any interest?

I've heard from a mate ( no idea of reliability ) that the Doggies might be interested in Lynden Dunn, they want to add an experienced key defender at the right price.

I could imagine Dunn's speed mobility could interest the Doggies style of play.  Even for depth as they are seen as In the Window.

Get the gang back together...

Salem, Hunt & Kelly.

Playing with their other schoolmates, Watts and (if he stays on the list) Dawes.  (Maybe MFC can align with the Old Brighton Grammerians and take off a Premiership, something we failed to do with Casey?)

Yes I'd be interested in Jarrod Pickett, if we could negotiate an outcome.

Maybe a swap of future 2017 1st Rnd draft picks,  plus our future 2017 2nd Rnd pick ?

I think Salem would be wasted as an inside mid, his kicking skills are too good to have him just bashing it on the foot out of a contest. You are right though that he may not be quick enough for out side run.

I would love to see him play on the outside but as the distributor, You can have Oliver and co int eh contest to get it out to Salem who then nails a pass to the true outside pace of Hunt. I guess this would make Salem an outside mid, but not an outside runner.

Your right I actually think Salem will get away with the perceived lack of speed because he's got really good footy smarts - similar to Mitchell of Hawthorn - in that he reads the play so well he'll put himself in the right spots so will seem to have more space than his speed allows. Back on topic, Kelly is one GWS won't part with, so it'd be great to get the school mates together but I can't see it unless we finish bottom 4 and he requests a trade next year.

Would hope we might be able to go to them without even using the 2nd round pick, will depend on how much they need to clear out of their cap and where they perceive we'll finish next year. Pickett would be my ideal target for this, but the same could be used for Barrett, WHE, Stewart, Steele or similar, although I'm sure they rate most of those guys much higher than what they'll accept in the end.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
