Crikey. Hawks fans have an inflated sense of Lewis' trade value!

Some fans want to trade #10 and a VFL player (Litherland, Langford, Shoenmakers) for O'Meara too, as if their VFL players poop smells good because they're Hawthorn.

All anyone needs to know about Goldy is that he is still a top 2 ruck.

Raised my eyebrows when one of the articles named him as THE premier ruckman in the game. Last time I checked a fellow with a big beard and wearing red and blue got the nod over him.

Would be an incredible turn of events for the Roos if they lost Goldy as well, lucky for them he's contracted for a few years because otherwise they'd be in a lot of trouble with him.

Just on a totally different note in the same article I noticed Mitch Brown from West Coast is looking to return to Victoria, how does he stack up against Spencer for instance? I literally know nothing about him but just saw his name in the article so thought I'd throw it out there.

Great family club Hawthorn.....

... they've just sent Father Sam west ,.... told Uncle Jordan they don't need him round..... sent rumours flying about Cousin Luke and Little Brother Billy........ protected money- grabbing foster kids Big Boy and Chip ..... cleaned out the back shed for Father Sam's estranged son Tom ..... and to cap it off are redecorating the master bedroom for a stranger who knocked on the door looking for a doctor and asking for money......

.. which of next season's free agents will be their next captain?

Brown plays KP, not ruck. I'd certainly look at him if we could get him for a second or third rounder. A bit more experience for our defence, but does have some injury history. If our docs pass him for fitness, I'd take a punt for a lowish cost.

He's a free agent. Pinched hit in the ruck a couple of times this year but certainly isn't his go. Could be ok defensive depth for free (but might want a 2 year deal). I don't think we'd be interested unless we could move on Dunn and/or Garland.

Heeney's exactly the type of guy I'm hoping we make a play for at the end of next year. Agreeed though, not sure if we will since we never seem to include ourselves in these conversations.

Next year is next year.... surely Mahoney and co have something in the works, otherwise the Hibberd deal would be done.

Tippet makes sense, and I'd be all for it.

Seems odd that we aren't publically looking at hrovat, stevens, lyons, motlop. They'd all have a spot on our list IMO.

Maybe seems odd, but is that because that is exactly what the old regime would have done?  Our current mob are far more professional.  Still waters run deep.

How about a straight swap Ollie wines for Jimmy Toumpas, should get it done.......aaah sheesh, hang on

I suspect Port would demand that we take Toumpass too as part of any deal ☹️️

Lewis is still in play, Pickering on SEN said discussion is ongoing with both clubs.

He also said he will do what Lewis wants. Ie if he wants to stay at Hawks he will, if he wants the Dees (and can agree on a contract, Hitchy saying we should give him 3 years) he could end up there. He was trying very hard to give nothing but said enough.

It may not happen at the end but interesting times indeed.

Poster on the  No T$ thread, that's right the No T$ thread, said the Lewis deal is nearly done and he will sign with us in the next couple of days.

Said the info is from Warrnambool way and  that is Lewis' family home area.

I think he would be a good pickup he would give us a bit more strength while our younger fellows mature. I think he could give us the sort of experience that bernie has given us since coming over. Obviously this all comes down to price, how much is it going to cost it dollars or trade goods.

If Pickering says its still in play, that basically means Lewis is a Dee.

This is a huge win.

Can you pass on to Osilik, that Josh Mahoney sends regards from his holidays, where he is lying on the beach in the sun, doing nothing.

You'd think after last year the Os fella would have learnt... He should be banned from commenting during all future trade periods.

He was trying to be very circumspect by saying Lewis as a contracted player is still likely to be at the Hawks next year, but it is still feels like Lewis wants to move.

Sounds to me like the deal is not quite done, but that Lewis wants it to be done. That would make it highly unlikely for the deal not to get done

Did he also also comment on the Tom Scully to Carlton rumour? They're getting every other GWS player.

Steve Quartermain on Twitter suggesting Lewis coming to MFC on a 3 year deal. The clubs are now haggling over draft picks.

Concerns me so much what we are going to be paying. Mitchell was essentially 88 because all parties agreed. With Hawthorns backtracking we have lost a lot of bargaining power and I worry what we will give up for an ageing star. I do want him in, but just want us to be cautious.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
