Nathan Vardy touring Eagles facilities, looks set to become an Eagle. He's really the only ruck/forward we'd aim for unless we landed a shock like Tippett.

We are too busy negotiating whether to use this years second rounder or next years second rounder for Hibberd to worry about any other potential trades.

you're absolutely kidding yourself if you think that's true.

Swans are now negotiating with Heeney for a long term extension. He stays.

yep, i know that. it was more of a response to old mate's suggestion for next year.. as we know, contracts don't really mean too much these days. i wouldn't hold my breath on heeney, but ya know.

Brett Anderson (SEN reporter and Demon supporter) was just on SEN.  Both he and Huddo had not heard anything from or about mfc trades. (That is a worry because it is player managers who are the chatty ones).  While I'm very happy for us to not leak, time is marching on to get things done.

I don't think we should simply chase any player whose name is mooted in the media.  However, I will be really disappointed if we don't get a Max backup.

Get Rockliff. One of the best footballers in the league. Great leader. Probably get him cheap due to the hysteria around a couple of tweets.

We backed our culture a few years ago to get Jeffy, not sure why we wouldn't back it now when it's even stronger....

So guys, million dollar question.

With so much on offer and so many trade scenarios which could be made to improve our list like all other teams

What option you think Mahoney will go with?

Option 1: Hibbered for 2016 2nd rounder

Option 2: Hibbered for 2017 2nd rounder

Must be exhausting trying to work out best way forward with so many options and so much going on this trade period.

Perhaps being a Dee's supporter he doesn't want to give anything away, or maybe there is nothing to give away?

A) Because we have too many 'inside strong' mids of his type with very similar attributes

B) Because history suggests that you need attribute diversity and a good mix within your midfield group and  to give yourself the best chance of sustained finals success and ultimately winning a grand final. Proof being Hawthorn and the Dogs this year.

C) If we're forecasting our chances of winning a flag over the next 3-5 years, look at the teams who we will most likely be competing against. GWS and the Dogs. Both teams are made for modern footy and have a much better balance of running power, skill-level and inside game.

Oli Wines is a player we do not need at this stage of our list development.

Fair enough mate, good points.

I guess I see Wines as a bit like Dangerfield with his burst play. Obviously not as quick as Danger, but has that same kind of burst game which we don't really have with our mids. Obviously we still need outside run badly, but I feel Wines could add to that "attribute diversity" given Tyson, Vince, Viney, Brayshaw, Oliver and Jones are more that win the ball and get it out type, rather than win it and run it out type. I'm not saying I'm super keen on Wines, but if there was a possibility there we'd look at it wouldn't we?

All he said was Hibberd for 2nd rounder

What players that are being thrown around do we actually need?

Alright, a further back up for Max would be handy, but I'd rather us not chase an injury prone Vardy or someone who simply isn't up to it.  We'll get Hibberd, but then what else do we need?  Did we really need a Mayne or a Wells?  Mitchell was always interested in the Hawks, while Rockliff does nothing for me in the slightest in terms of what he will bring to the club off the field.

I understand people want to see stuff done, but think it through first.  With our young list and the improvement to come there isn't much we need to do at this stage.  Having one quiet trade period is not the end of the world.

Hawthorn pages reporting we are into Jordan Lewis! Watch this space but it makes no sense.

Credit to Hawks if true. They know how to get deals done.

Meanwhile Mahoney losing sleep over 2016 or 2017 for Hibbered

12 months to prepare for this decision.

I actually don't mind it at the right price.

The addition of Lewis and Hibberd could easily help us jump into the top 8 next season. From there it becomes a lot easier to attract free agents or players via a trade.

I feel like with the addition of free agency and players choosing where they want to go, the value of picks outside the top 10 have dropped dramatically.

I highly doubt he is losing sleep.

He's probably got other deals he wants to do with the 2016 2nd round pick.

I suppose I agree with you if he is an unrestricted free agent and costs us nothing. Otherwise a pick in the eighties if we have one.  Leave it to other clubs to  be retirement homes if they want to thanks.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
