..one week at a time..

Exactly!

First week, destroy Carlton for a percentage boost. Second week, put Geelong to the sword on their own turf.

Question is, who do we bring in for WCE in Perth? It's a big ground.

So where did this statement come from?

That's not what Roos said in his presser though. He said they'd know after training today.

Reading between the lines, highly doubtful that he plays

Highly doubtful I agree with, but just not sure I'd be posting "No Weed this week" without actually knowing for sure.

Surely if Weid and Jesse are NQR there could be a case for Spencer?

Agreed.  Garlett, Pedersen and Harmes played 85, 82 and 86% TOG respectively.  We've already got Oliver, Stretch, Kent and Brayshaw who regularly play in the 60-75% range.  I think the last thing we need to be doing is adding too many players with question marks over their ability to run out a game.

For me, if Garlett is injured, Kennedy is the replacement.  Notwithstanding JKH's good couple of weeks, Kennedy has been playing well in the VFL for longer, is fit, and has demonstrated AFL ability at times this year.  With our season suddenly getting serious, I wouldn't be taking any risks.

I'd consider Weideman for Pedersen, but I'm far from convinced and would be happy either way.  No other changes to a winning formula for me.

If the concern is carrying too many players who mightn't be able to run out much more than 60% of the game, then Weideman shouldn't be in the conversation.

Against Hawthorn he was done by half time.

The upcoming pre-season will do wonders for him but IMO right now, as you've said, we can't afford to have that many players in the side who are at risk of blowing up before the game's finished.

And also agree as to Kennedy vs JKH. No way JKH gets a game off the back of one or two solid weeks when he hasn't played seniors all year. Part of the reason why we are improving the way we are is that the players have learnt to play with each other. Kennedy is in good enough form and has played enough seniors this year to slot straight back in. JKH has not.

Agreed if fit enough. Watts, Pedo and Spencer as KPFs would have to do.

team will be announced as no change. 3 emergencies, salem, ?, and ?

Sunday game so 25 man squad released. Guessing Salem, Dawes and JKH/Kennedy  added to squad

Presuming that Garlett and Hogan get up, the only change I'd make is;

OUT: Harmes

IN: Salem

I can't see this happening though. Roos seems forgiving of poor disposal if the intent/energy/commitment is there.

Garlett  surely has to be a scratching  .  He was shown on crutches on the tv sports reports tonight .  Keep him on ice for the Cattery .

Spencer won't be in, for three reasons.

First, nobody on our list who doesn't have either a bushranger beard or a stuttering run up just isn't going to take enough contested marks to make that much of a difference. If Spencer got 2 goals from contested marks, he'd be way above expectations. Has he ever got two goals in a game?

Second, Harry T would be virtually a free man in defence and simply run off him all game and launch a dozen dangerous attacks unopposed. It would be playing right into their hands.

Third, if Spence is up there, we won't be able to resist the temptation to bomb the ball high into the f50. The Cats' defence has been second-to-none for about a decade now, picking off the long bomb and using it to launch attacks on the rebound.

Spence has a vitally important job at the club as backup for Gawn. We're lucky that we've got such a capable second string if - God forbid! - we should ever need it.

We have to beat them like we did last time - smash them in contested ball (with Gawn winning the ruck), then rapid accurate ball movement way from stoppages, and looking to hit targets. And they will be busting every sinew to stop us doing this, but if we continue to do it as well as we've done for the past two games, they won't be able to stop us, unless Selwood wins an academy award or Dangermouse gets 50 possessions (or unless they're smart enough to tag Tyson rather than Viney or Jones or Vince!)

Anyway, Carlton. If we don't beat them, we may as well play Spence.
