Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Presuming that Garlett and Hogan get up, the only change I'd make is;

OUT: Harmes

IN: Salem

I can't see this happening though. Roos seems forgiving of poor disposal if the intent/energy/commitment is there.

I'd also make the same change. However Roosy's mantra of persisting with certain blokes with poor disposal & low confidence is paying off.. aka Oscar Mcdonald. If Harmes is selected again, I'll back in his decision. There's no doubt though he's capable of some great footy! That bit of play against the 2 Hawks defenders, then kick to Kent in the goal square springs to mind.

If the concern is carrying too many players who mightn't be able to run out much more than 60% of the game, then Weideman shouldn't be in the conversation.

I think bringing in one is different to bringing in three, which was the premise I was responding to.

Sunday game, so I'm guessing the initial squad will read:

IN: Jones M, Kennedy, Salem
OUT: -

Jones, because Plapp said in his review that he played like an AFL player in the VFL - as ringing an endorsement as I've seen;
Kennedy as the obvious replacement for Garlett if he doesn't get up
Salem because he's class

I've gone cold on the idea of Weideman for this week.

team will be announced as no change. 3 emergencies, salem, ?, and ?

Dawes, unfortunately.

I think Salem will play - Roos: "There'll be some tough decisions but Christian's someone you'd love to get back in because we know he's a quality player but it'll be based on form and who we can push in and out,"

Christian is our silkiest player, (second only to Jack Watts) so I reckon he will 'push someone out'.  I reckon it will be for Harmes or Bugg only because Christian is a far better player and he needs AFL level match fitness before we take on Geelong and he is needed for the finals:wacko:).

Harmes has become a victim of Demonland groupthink IMO, so I won't go in to that, but I really doubt Bugg's spot is in doubt.  He's been excellent since returning from his VFL stint.  His intensity is back up, his ball use has been clean, and he's kicking goals from the midfield.

I'm a Salem fan, but I'm happy to keep him waiting rather than dropping a player in good form for him.

Is the player who has played 1 game in the VFL like the players who have played the whole season there?

Yeah, nah.

Weren't Demonlanders accused of GT when it came to Garland and Grimes ?

I'm not so much referring to Harmes, as he has attributes I like, but if he doesn't improve his kicking he'll fall the way of the above two.

Anyway, my point being it wasn't GT with Garland and Grimes, it was using one's eyes.

You mean like Roos dropping Watts twice in his 7th year ?  Let's not pretend that Watts hasn't saved his career in 2016.

Oscar was played before he was ready.  I'm OK with that as it happens to most young players.

Watched the Port replay a couple of times, I thought Harmes was pretty average again.  Missed targets and was caught a few times.  Needs a spell in my opinion.

Won't happen. Has been like that all year and Roos has continued to back him. Not sure it'll last all next year though unless he improves his disposal dramatically.

They might have been, not me though. I never thought Grimes would be near our 22 this year. I would have had Garland in my 22 at the start of the year (and he did play early I'll add), but at that stage I hadOscar in the VFL, Frost forward, and I'd never heard of Josh Wagner. As the season has unfolded I have zero complaints about Garland's treatment.

I think a better comparison would be Tom McDonald. There are a few on here who have tuned themselves to see every mistake, big or small, to the point where it's now all they see. I see the same thing happening with Harmes.

I totally agree that he needs to clean up those errors, no disputing that. I just don't agree that he's anywhere near the fringe of our side, and his standing in our side supports that, but his name comes up in these discussions every week.

The comparison with McDonald is not apt IMO because even when making errors, McDonald would bring the defensive aspects of his game. Harmes is hard at it, but he's next to useless if he's not getting the ball. And most of the time when he gets it, he puts team mates under pressure with poor disposal. It's like PD said, it might not translate on the stat sheet how poor his disposal is, but 'using one's eyes', he's a butcher.

Although, Harmes has been dropped this year, TMac hasn't. Possibly reinforces AF's point a bit.

If you thought I was comparing the worth of McDonald and Harmes as players then I've clearly failed in getting my point across again. I'll leave it at that.

Not as players, but there was an element of your theory about Roos not caring much about disposal compared to effort, and given Harmes always competes, he was surely dropped for his poor ball use? I rate Harmes, I liken him to Nate Jones early on and think he'll work on his disposal just as hard and become a player for us, but people are right to question his decision making and ball use at this stage.

Jones' disposal is often poor.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
