Tom Downie is a gettable option. He is in right age bracket for MFC.

23yo. 200cms 99kgs. Benalla boy. He gets physical and has agility to go fwd if required.

I did notice he kicked about 20 goals in the NEAFL this year which is promising.

Maybe Spencer to West Coast

West Coast on trade to GWS

Downie to Melbourne

On top of that we still draft my man Darcy Cameron!

Potentially Downie will get de-listed anyway, so we could pick him up without compromise and cheaper.

Doesn't look like there's anyone close to a star being available at this position (Vickery seems the best mentioned so far), so ideally we don't pay much for them as they'll be more than likely back-up rather than a best 22 player. I'd say we'll be going a more mature bodied (23-27 year old) state player, or an injured player with scope from another club (like Vardy).

Still no mention of Jackson Trengove ?

I thought Demonland was a treasure trove of insider mail ?  Colour me disappointed !!

Surely a trade of Jackson Trengove for Jack Trengove must be rumoured somewhere just for the silliness of the discussion.

Rumour of North being in to Harry Dear and whilst a little undersized at 197cm he's a big strong lad, played TAC at Sandy under Plappy. Could play the 2nd ruck/forward role.

Kicked a bag of 6 and a few 3's and 4's in the SANFL and is stuck behind Walker, Jenkins and McGovern.

Anyway seen or heard about him?

Reads ok, however is he capable of playing ruck, as none of those brief summaries mention him going into the ruck.

Otherwise it may be a case of going to the draft and looking for a Dracy Cameron or Rowan Marshall.

Exactly right, jay, but he has, by far, the biggest room for improvement of any of the "ruck/forward" players being named.

This bloke has the ability to be a star of the competition.  Do we take the chance?  At the right price, I think we have to, but I don't think Geelong would accept what I'd offer!!!!

So did Maximus Gawnius for a while, he turned out pretty good.

Our women's Ruckwoman, Maddy Boyd, features on the MFC and AFL websites as 168cm and is described as "tall"! Surely there is a misprint or shabby editing?

Its off the ground we want him to be to do his best, winning hit outs & taking marks.   just sayin, rj

Well, we bit the bullet and delisted Max King which I suppose had to be done in light of the fact that after three years as a rookie, the Casey selectors ignored him throughout the finals series and played Oscar McInerney instead and left him in their twos.

Max King came from the Bushies where they grow them big so why not another Max from out Albury way? Max Lynch is a 200cm, 96kg ruckman from the Murray Bushrangers with the problem being that I believe he's in the GWS Academy (it's another issue altogether as to why an Albury boy needs an academy because our game is pretty strong up there - but hey, this is the AFL and GWS is their love child).

I believe that the Giants have a number of draft prospects in this year's academy and they might be under pressure with points in the bidding system if they haven't selected him by the time we get to Melbourne's pick at 47.

Anyone know how this works and does anyone know some more about Max Lynch?

Whatever happened to that really fat dude who was talked about a couple of years ago who trained hard, lost weight and had really good skills? Was touted as a chance to get drafted but didn't ultimately.

Think he played for Norwood. He still around?

I tried a couple of years ago but the recruiters preferred others. Nobody else wanted him either and now, two more years down the track, I can't see him finding a suitor at Melbourne or anywhere else - A BIG POINT ON THE COMPASS

I agree. Great tap-work (big numbers in hit-outs to advantage) and a genuinely fantastic kick for a big boy but will probably never have the tank for modern AFL and, oddly, perhaps doesn't impose his body enough in contests to be rotating forward. Still, Gawn had some similar knocks, and I'd be more than chuffed if we took the punt on Sam as an understudy for big Maxy.

How do you do that tag thing? Crazy O'Smearer just mentioned he was a Redlegs' member. He might have some better insight on current form and capabilities.

Tim English will go early. Max Lynch most likely to go GWS via Their Academy. Mitch McCarthy = project type who might slip thru to late 40's

Any more out there??????

Posted this in the Syndrome #47 thread but probably deserves a spot in here...

Another SA lad I've seen a bit of this year, Sam Draper...

Worth a look as a ruck prospect I reckon!

Sam Draper article (managed to read it once but can't get past the greed-wall again to paste the article)

Jeremy Goddard and Darcy Cameron both from Claremont. Goddard was better at this years championship than Tim English at centre bounces and as a pure  ruckman but English after a late growth spurt has massive upside and is very good with his footskills and at gathering the ball on the move below his knees

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
