I'm watching the replay and I'm convinced that the rivalry between Adelaide and Port Adeliade is completely fake the way Mark Ricciuto fawns over the Port Adelaide players.

I'm sure he hates them. Was just trying to hide it, but in doing that, he overcompensated. There's no way an Adelaide supporter is every going to say anything nice about Port, otherwise.

When we were 8 goals to 1 up you could just see Roo and Brereton begging and hoping for them to come back.  Derwayne is just as bad when he commentates our game, a comeback would be 'massive' in his books.

Watched the replay.

The commentary was appalling, not calling the game, just going on with twaddle with Brereton being the worst. Was he even sober?

Clint I have been on sabbatical over here this year, and I can tell you the rivalry between the die hard fans is not fake. They hate one another more than they hate the Vic clubs. Many South Aussies have a Victorian club as a second team. The hatred has a long history but was intensified at the time leading up to the Crows formation. The belief of Crows fans is that Port betrayed the other SA clubs by trying to broker a deal with the VFL to be the inaugural club when all the clubs had signed an agreement not to go it alone. Ports attempts failed and the Crows were very quickly formed as a response to Ports actions as all the non Port clubs would not have a bar of Port becoming the inaugural club. May be an over simplification but that is what Crow supporters tell me with heated breath. The betrayal has never been forgotten. And the Port supporters see themselves as the authentic Magpies, one of the oldest clubs in the country and a genuine footy club unlike the Crows.

From Da Nang I listen to 5 AA.

One commentator - suggested remedy for their predicament was maybe "Trade out an Ollie Wines" for draft picks.

Not that we have any.

How about we try and convince him to ask for a trade to the MFC? ;)

Can't remember enjoying an away game more  - standing on the hill with the ferals - the stuff getting yelled out was actually quite funny at times

there was a decent turn out by Dees fans - and the Port fans went quiet by 15 minutes in as you could sense how the game would go.

The Casino was pumping with delerious Dees fans after the match.  the last thing I remember is a dude in a Dees scarf getting kicked out of the palace for falling asleep/passing out on a chair

I recall it. The high and mighty SAFL was too good for the nasty Victorian "Australian" Football League. They wouldn't have a bar of it. Rejected all overtures. They were never going to enter it.

They renamed the SAFL as the SANFL as their pitiful revenge. That really showed us!

They were facing being locked out of the national comp due to their trivial spite. Locking themselves out, that is.

Then when they found out Port was making secret overtures the facade dropped and the rubber hit the road. Boom, the South Australia Adelaide Football Club was born 9 months later. Shotgun wedding.

Had the side effect of killing off interstate football as they could get their jollies every week instead of once every couple of years. (Although the VFL/AFL coaches did a great job of putting it on life support first.)

As for the local fans, rellies in SA tell me that the general mood is, they'd rather a Vic club wins than the "other" SA club. Now that's hatred!

Another perfect 10 for Max from the Coaches!!

Split view on Nathan and Tom.

Max must be a shoe in for the Bluey now.

Unbelievable, the top ten highlights in the AFL site include the attempted mark by Rioli, has it got to that stage?  Maybe we can include any of his near miss goals in the goal of the week.

I know a Port fan who travelled from McLaren Vale and left at quarter time .......seriously. He had told me before the game that Port was gone and had no chance so I guess he had negative outlook before the ball was bounced. Now that sounds like a lot of Demon fans over recent years. How the wheel has turned.

I agree, remember a few years ago, we played Geelong in a night match at the G, it was pouring as well, a security guard came and sat with me and my lady, as we were the only 3 left in the top deck of the Ponsford

How romantic! I bet your missus is always coming up with excuses to go to the footy after that.

Not only that but they missed the Pedo specky, which was actually successful... unlike Cyrl's.

Just watched the first half again and was impressed with Bugg's work. A lot of it goes unoticed but his shepherds and blocks are great. Numerous times he sets up at the stoppages to stop Westhoff going 3rd man up and countless times he is a link in a chain of possessions. Knows where to run.

I reckon he is very under-rated around here.

He's not underrated, he's been much better since coming back from being dropped.

Yeah was awesome been there. I reckon we were the only Melbourne supporters in the southern stand... Every goal I was out of my seat. Port supporter infront of me disappeared after QRT time... not sure why

Not a split view on Tom and Nathan - one of them got 2 & 2 and the other 4 & 0.  It's impossible to know which was which although it would surprise me if Jones didn't get votes from both coaches, so I am assuming he got the 2 & 2.

My calcuation of the breakdown:
Gawn - 5 & 5
Tyson - 4 & 3
Jones (or McDonald) - 2 & 2
McDonald (or Jones) - 4 & 0
Vince - 3 & 0
Polec - 1 & 0
Wines - 1 & 0

So probably something like this:
Coach A:
5 Gawn
4 Tyson
3 Vince
2 Jones
1 Wines

Coach B:
5 Gawn
4 McDonald
3 Tyson
2 Jones
1 Polec.

Interesting that there was only one game where a player did not get a perfect 10 votes from the coaches.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
