Of Course, Cyril gets off

The sling / spear tackle by Cyrrrrrriiilll on Weideman was of course ignored.  Had Viney or Oliver done it to the protected one all hell would break loose.

I mistakenly believed that lifting a player up then driving him into the ground was a definite no no.  Such is the inconsistency and corruption of the MRP.

More upset about scumbag Mitchell getting off - a sneaky, low sniping act

He's a sniper for sure, but that wasn't snipey. Watts hand gouge to his face was more snipey. All Mitchell did was react instinctively imo and probably went too far with the slap. He's lucky he didn't make more forceful contact, that's all

was a fair bump. didnt get him in the head

it was all the ducking by Cyril and the spear tackling that was disgraceful

well the mrp said it was illegal (rough play) but i suppose you could argue the mrp is not a good source of consistent rule interpretation - lol

nevertheless i agree that it was an illegal charge but because he hit him in the head forcibly should have got 1 week if they are serious about concussion and head injuries

Yeah that's understandable. It took a full screen slow motion to recognise it but there was probably nothing in it.  He's still a cu#nt though,  there is no denying that!

I have probably let my dislike of him colour my view

It's fair enough, he's got away with these recently...

And another one similar to the Fyfe one involving Taylor Walker that I couldn't find.

Dog player that doesn't seem to receive much leash action from the AFL.

And Hodge only getting 2 weeks for this (suspension conveniently ended the week before finals started)...

Hawthorn get a very good rub with the MRP and Tribunal- it's safe to say.

So happy we beat this team. Hope they get demoted to at least 3rd spot at the end of home and away round because of it and lose a Gf birth. The umps do give them special treatment.

Melbourne have become a tough side that used to crumble under hawthorns dirty play. Go dees.

well your clip definitely looks head high. you can see his head snap back in the last part of replay

so you see in this clip not high and i see head high  anyway, whether head high or not it is still rough play by the current rules (post byron that is)

re freeze frames from previous posters:...................................................the other freeze frame shot with bent legs is shown after the hit and is only what you would expect as he is going down, plus not being a side on shot is misleading. If one is going to show freeze frames then you need to show the whole sequence of freeze frames and preferably from all angles

Should have been a free in our pocket for tackling player without the ball.

The Hodge assault on Wingard and the fact that the AF(ucucking)L allowed him to get away with a 2 week suspension is proof that Hawthorn has become a Protected Species.

After watching the replay I'm so proud of the Demon boys who took the crap from Hawthorn and blew it back in their faces. They did not shirk one issue (to coin a phrase). They stood up and gave it back - fairly, and on the scoreboard.

He only slapped him because he couldn't get his knee that high :-(

think we can all agree the umpiring was particularly bad and hawforn got the better of the decisions/non-decisions

i hope those umps get a real roasting by umpire review panel (but i'm not counting on it)

Jordan Lewis in particular. It feels like everytime I catch part of a Hawthorn game an obvious holding the ball decision gets overlooked in his favour, and if I keep watching I see more of them.

This is my take in case anyone cares:

- Cyril's was fine. Didn't make contact with the head. Shouldn't have been fined.

- Sicily is lucky to get one week. That was straight out of the 80s.

- Serious question - is spear tackling illegal in the AFL? I actually don't know. Cyril spear tackled Hooch.

- Mitchell should've got one. Impact was low but you can't just belt players in the face.

Yeah.  Sure.  They may get a roasting for not getting their team over the line, but that will be all.

Times like this i wish Byron Pickett was back playing for us.

If only we could find someone with all the hardness, but slightly tempered and focused to better suit the evolved game? Any volunteers?

I remember a few weeks ago Cyril flying for a mark and getting very high. He didn't take the mark. They showed the replay and he basically used his hands to climb all over the man in front in order to get up so high. It was a clear free kick yet all the Channel 7 commentators did was fawn over him and say how high he got and how incredible the mark would have been. "Oh Cyril this, Cyril that" They did not mention once that it was a clear free kick to his opponent.

After Saturday I wonder if the umpires suffer from the same Cyril obsession as Bruce and his fellow Channel 7 commentators. No free kick for flattening Oliver high and then he receives a free kick himself. Later in the quarter he then basically jumped on Neville Jetta and put an arm around his neck - no free for Jetta. Then later on again, Rioli clearly ducked into a tackle and incredibly received a free for too high.

Are they all just drooling over Cyril that they can't see him do any wrong?

For what it's worth I love watching Rioli and he's a sensational footballer. But I can be objective and recognise when he clearly infringes.

Rioli gets away with murder  but his bump on Clarry was perfect. Shouldn't have been cited,

The real story is that a kid in his first season and 11th game got up immediately from a huge hit and was one of the best players on the ground and continued to attack every contest like it was his last - and this week, Cyril, you are the loser.

We can go around in circles all week but this is what we know.

He definitely didn't get up immediately. He was on his knees, elbows and forehead for a while.

no mention of a shirtfront needing to hit the head, nut

That site appears to be someones guide to AFL for newbies. Not the official rules.

Grain of salt stuff

If there was no contact to the head it was a brilliant shirtfront. Like Balls Grinter on Chris Mew. Play on.

However if, as the MRP has deemed, there was contact to the head it should be a free kick and a suspension.

Given that it took frame by frame analysis for them to reach that conclusion, the umpires can be excused for missing it.

No such excuse for the MRP though. Gutless.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
