1.  We beat the Hawks

2.  We threw a spanner in their finals

3.  We broke a 10 year losing streak

4.  We beat them at their own game.

5.  We stamped Max Gawn into legend status

6.  Jack Watts showed us he could captain us one day

7.  The Hawks couldn't beat us even WITH their free kick crap!

8.  When the game was in the balance, we TOOK THEM ON instead of try and SAVE the game

9.  Hawk's haven't lost a close one all year despite having more close calls than a brothel in your backyard

10.  Dees are notorious for losing games they should win

Anything I missed?

Beating the Saints at the G in an elimination final pips this one, but other than that this is our best win since 2000.

Certainly the best I can remember for a long, long time.

The best 'effort' game i can remember.

Probably not the greatest ever but a bar raising win above the magnificent one down at mordor last year.

It's certainly right up there.  Our wins down at the Cattery in '05 and last year would go close, as does the Elimination Final win over Carlton.  Rolling Carlton by 100 points would be high on the list too.

vs WC, 1998

vs Geelong, 2005

vs Essendon, 2012

vs Geelong 2015

vs Hawthorn, 2016

I wonder what the stats is for us vs 1st-placed teams (or even top 4 teams) this late in the season.

I would have the Qualifying final of 2000 against Carlton ahead but only just.

I hate the Hawks and am so happy to beat them! I hope we can cause them pain over the next few years! I want their supporters to really feel it.

Nothing beats Brucey ,Greenie and Chel giving it to Carlton in that final

They were a top side, Hellbent on Essendon. We came from nowhere led them, got headed again and still beat them

Todaywas  Great too

That 2000 final against Carlton still ranks in my number 1 game.  My top 5 'since 94' are:

5) Vs North Prelim '2000

4) Vs Saints finals '98

3) Vs Lions Gabba 2002

2) Vs Hawks 2016

1) Vs Blues finals 2000

My favourite win since we beat St Kilda in the 2006 EF, and probably trumps that, taking me back to the QF against Carlton in 2000.

Would have those, along with the win over Brisbane in 2002 and the win over Geelong last year as my top 5, I think.

This was more than just a win. This was a warning to all teams that the day of the demon is near.

Best win in a decade by the length of gawnys beard.

We beat Port next week, then things get veddy veddy interesting.

North will lost their next three, we should beat Carlton.  Geelong in Round 23 could be our best win since the Western Oval in 1987...

Will happily take today until such time. :roos:

This was our best win in 10 years. Knocking off the top of the ladder defending premiers without our leading goal kicker is huge!

I feel the win against Geelong last year is being overrated by people on here. Yes it was good to beat Geelong in Geelong, but they finished 10th so it's not like we beat a really good team like we did today.

The win in Geelong doesn't even come close. It was fun but don't forget Geelong were rubbish last year.

Best win since the Saints final I reckon.

Hawthorn were busting a gut to win this, and we broke their back. Reminded me of when Hawthorn were real shyte, then after drafting and a bit of time, you saw them finally click.

Let's hope similar success awaits.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
