Said the same thing last year but don't want to play Bombers first up or first game in Melbourne.

They will be so hyped up with their players back.

Happy to play them later in the season.

Demonlanders were laughing at me when I said we would lose to them in round 2, months earlier.

Agree.... we need a quiet start to the season where we can rack up 3 or 4 wins in the first five games and then move on. Freo in the West would be nice and I would not say not to Port in Adelaide (seeing we gave them home ground advantage in Alice Springs.)

No fears of playing Essendon but playing them in a homecoming of the Angels scenario in the first round (probably our home game as well) would be plain dumb.

To those who say we should not be afraid the simple fact is that football is a game of "inches" and there is no reason whatsoever to give your opponent one inch. We already manage that well enough by playing in Alice Springs and Darwin plus our enforced visit to the Cattery!!

When did we last have a Home game against The Drug Cheats?

We should be doing everything we can to prevent it. This has a Melbourne loss written in block letters all over it. Avoid at all costs.

I'd be really disappointed if the club lobbied not to play a big game, most probably at our home ground, because we were afraid of losing.

Bring on the Bummers I reckon.

Any game against Victorian opposition is good, especially if its one of the more well supported clubs. If we can make it a regular game & alternate who gets to be the home side it would really add to our fixture.

The mere thought of Essendon welcomingback their drug cheats like successful returning olympians makes me [censored] sick.

Very true BST but if we gave them a 'good old fashioned rogering', it would be twice as sweet.

I'm not too sure about Weids getting a game so early in the season 17. During the two games he played near the end of this season he looked like he had talent but he definitely does not have the body or the endurance to play a full game consistently. During his second game he couldn't apply much defensive pressure and looked tired once the ball was turned over. He didn't put much tackle pressure on in our forward 50.

I still think he has a lot of work and weight to put on before he should be given a consistent crack at it. Those two games hopefully shows him how much work is required and how far he has to go.

To not have Hibberd as an absolute certainty off a HBF is just stupid. Will nearly be the first Defender that Goodwin locks in.  Goodwin will naturally be so keen to get Hibberd & Melksham back to Senior footy asap.

Goody & Macca haven't brought these 2 Essendon buddies over to play at Casey.  They'll get plenty of time to re-establish their careers

I also think that Joel Smith could be the Pre Season smokie that forces his way into the side.

I think Harmes slips to about 25 on the Pecking order.

I want the Bombers in Round 1.      We owe them big time, and what better way than to smash them on their grand final aka the return of the drug cheats

i seriously wonder what the reason is.

I heard that that the MCC requests Melbourne play away games against Etihad co-tenants (particularly Essendon & Carlton) in order to play as many games as possible at the G.

The AFL meets this request as we've played Essendon and Carlton as away games at the MCG every year since 2011.

The problem is that instead of getting double up games against them, we end up playing a bunch of home MCG games against the franchises and interstate sides.

Sounds feasible and very flimsy BBP. Usual AFL behavior!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
