Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Daw, Vickery or Holmes?

Am I the only one who sees something in Vickery?

Maybe it's the Foward/Ruck (in that order) I'm in love with

My Dad does, says McCartney could turn any of those 3 into a decent footballer but sees the most in Vickery. Not that I agree with him though.

We need pace and aerial ability .(with some disposal skill)

I'm not sure we will be recruiting anymore big clumsy dudes.

It could be worse and add Jack Fitzpatrick to this list.

We have enough of these type players HOWEVER..... Tyrone Vickery isnt as bad as most people think including me sometimes.

Hes the 1 out of the lot and he is a footballer. I can guarantee that by next season the way Goodwin will have the side he wants our our skill delivery into the 50 will be absolutely elite and hence this is where Tyrone comes into the equation. Fresh start and remember he can play, good contested mark but combined with Petracca bullets as just 1 example we could make him look good

But yes we dont need him aswelll

Jake Spencer is better than all three of them.  In fact I reckon the Spencil is a bit underrated.

Without hesitation I would take Spencer ahead of the other three.

Daw is still just a raw athlete, and I would be surprised if it didn't stay that way.

Vickery - I would question whether he is mentally up to playing top level sport.

Holmes is largely unproven, but probably the most promising of the three. Still going to take another couple of years though.

Spencer on the other hand is a ready to go ruck man. Another pre-season under his belt against Gawn, and he will be a more than capable back up ruck man.

Ideally though, the club should be trying to land a forward/ruck, in the mould of Peter Wright, Rory Lobb, or even Nathan Vardy.

We have one in Max King if he could just get his [censored] together, not sure whether he will survive this year though

To his credit, Holmes is hard at it.

He always has a few inches on the others.

I'm sure he can forge a long career.

He'd be pretty stiff not to get picked up.

SPENCER you are Kidding!??

Spencer has been on the list for Ages and has failed to make an impact ever!

Daw will take out the Mark of the year ( Spencer is lucky if he can get of the ground!)

Vickery has won games of his own boot for Tiges and can play ( Spencer has not)

Holmes is a raw untapped Talent. (Spencer struggles to coordinate putting boot to ball on occasions!)

Come on King, are you serious???

It is not so much that I rate Spencer. More so that I don't rate Daw or Vickery.

Daw isn't a footballer, he is just an athlete, I don't think he adds much at all. He is a fine looking specimen, but if you take the muscles away, would he be on an AFL list? I don't think he would. North have persisted for a long time. Longer than I would've.

Vickery has obvious mental issues for mine. Clearly he is capable. But for a guy who was recruited as a forward, he has only managed 156 goals in 118 games. If he wasn't a high draft pick he'd be playing country football. He might be able to win games off of his own boot, but that clearly doesn't happen very often. Mentally he isn't up to playing consistently good football IMO.

Holmes. I don't mind Holmes. I like him as a project player, and I think he is going to make it. But he isn't ready to ruck full time, and that is what a back up ruckman might have to do. They might have to ruck full time. He isn't ready yet. I am not against taking him, just that if Gawn did go down (god forbid), then Holmes still isn't ready.

Spencer is ready. He will be able to fill the role. That is all he needs to do. He doesn't need to set the world on fire, he just needs to provide a contest, and I think he can do that.

"Vickery has won games off his own boot for the Tigers"

Now I've seen everything.

In 118 games, there's been maybe five where he was among the top-3 on the day.

Anyway, Spencer is a full-time ruck, and Vickery is a full-time forward.

Spencer has value to us only as a back-up to Gawn, not as a partner on the field.

Vickery has no value to us as we aren't in need of any more of that position.

I suppose, with Spencer signed until end of 2017 and happy to play the understudy role, it could be easier to just extend his contract yearly and hope the two Kings come on.

We can also rookie another ruckman if needed as insurance.

Did I read right that he kicked 5 on the weekend in the DL?

Although, that is the issue... It was in the DL!

I hope he makes it as for some strange reason he is my 7 yr old son's 2nd favourite player behind the #29 on his jumper

Three years on the rookie list. Currently in the D League on form and couldn't get into the Casey seniors despite no Weideman,  Hulett or Tim Smith. Still gets pushed off the contest to easily also.

I know the key position players take time, but given he's been a rookie for 3 years now, they either need to promote him or delist him. I suspect it will be the later.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
