Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Daw, Vickery or Holmes?

Hellfish is right - we do not have a ruck problem.

I think Goodwin will play Spencil and give Maxie more time in the forward line.

If we are in the hunt for players : Sloane and Wines at Adelaide and then Tom Lynch, a couple of Hawk small forwards. Heeney and Hanneberry from Atlantis

as well as Motlop, Jack Riewoldt and Fyffe.

Just the ones that come to mind, mind you although in RumourLand we are getting Hurley and Hibberd

I've no problem with Daw. Should I even suggest I was among the very earliest to bring him to Dlands attention all those years ago.

He's stuffed if he stays at Nawth. Im just not sure how he would go with us now. He would for mine make the ideal 2ndfwd come pinch hitter ruck.

He's very inconsistent and very underated.

Maybe an ideal Macca project perhaps ?

As a metric Daw would eclipse Spencil...Just food for thought

This is an unbelievably stupid drive by not worthy of response, but I'll respond anyway given I'm assuming I'm one of the ones you're referring to as a defender of Grimes, who you have relentlessly and obsessively talked down.

No, I don't think Grimes has been best served by the club over his career, including and in particular this year. And yes I do maintain he is a better player than what he gets presented as on this forum.

I hope he gets another chance in 2017. He may not, as being let go by Melbounre is a difficult tag to shake, but he is an AFL standard player in my view with plenty of years left in him.

As an overall statement, if you are comparing what Jack Grimes has proven on the football field over his 100 games with what Majak Daw has proven, I have no words for you.

Daw needs proper mentoring and coaching. The raw talent is there. Nth have no idea what to do with him.

There's nothing stupid about it.

I simply ask why all of the justifications thrown up over the years for the above mentioned aren't forwarded to Daw. Why doesn't he deserve this same luxury, because he doesn't play for us?

Like it or not Daw has potential.

Im happy to wait until Daws career is over we compare them.

Out of interest, how many clubs would have genuine competition for #1 ruckman. Not many off the top of my head.

As for these 3, Vickery is frightened and no ruckman. Holmes rucked well against Gawn for half a NAB match, not sure what else he offers. Majak is the classic potentially maybe, I think he'd be in the same position at MFC as he is at North. Just not offering enough to push anyone out for a regular spot.

You don't take Daw as a ruck, but a player who can ruck. There's a difference.

This is the guy. Declan Kielty. Better than those three, and better than any other second-string ruck likely to be available.

Predominantly a tall forward who can ruck, such a rare commodity.

If we don't pick him, someone else will.

Considering our lack of ruck depth, I wondered, if you had the choice to bring either Majak Daw, Tyrone Vickery or Jason Holmes to our club, who would you choose?

Our ruck problem is that Spencer is languishing at Casey despite being in pretty consistently  good form and could be justified in seeking greener pastures.......whilst we continue to put games into a tall KPP forward who can't mark, kicks few goals, won't or can't ruck ..... oh but does bring the ball to ground.

Yes, but it's one thing to love your own problem children and another altogether to adopt someone else's.

Of all the recycled players we have recruited recently, pretty much the only ones we have got any value out of were already of established pedigree, with perhaps the only exception being Ben Ken.  I'm sure I'll get hounded down for this, but I'd actually include Chris Dawes in the group of hand me downs that 'has' been useful for us.

Before seening your post, I suggested that we should play Spencer for Dawes against Hawthorn for these reasons.  I also don't think it's good for Max's longevity for him to [censored] himself every week, usually against two opposition talls/rucks.

Would rather try and pluck a skinny 18yo kid in the 3rd or 4th round of the draft and see if they can cut it 3 years later.

Which is pretty much what we have done the past several drafts with the two Kings and perhaps Hullet to a small extent.

I know it was only about 20 minutes of football to go off.

But for a first year 18 year old ruckman, I did like the look of Mitch King before he did his ACL in that Round 1 VFL match.  Competed well and had taken a nice contested mark on the Grandstand side of the ground.

I hold out hope.

Spencer just signed a 2 year deal, going no where

today footy only has room for one specialist ruckman, Spencer is a ready made replacement for Gawn if he goes down.

Dawes being no good isn't exactly a ruck problem

Agree wth the first part. Not the second. We should be able to give half likes :)

I think your expectations were set too high if you think we haven't gotten value out of Bugg.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
