Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Around The Grounds - Round 14

I'm glad St Kilda are a topic of discussion today. Their best has definitely surpassed our best in my opinion. Nick Riewoldt is probably the difference in terms of leadership, not to put nathan jones down but he is not a finals proven captain yet, which is not his fault. They played better than we have for a decade last night. I don't think they got Geelong at a worse time in form, as we did last year. But we're definitely not far behind, just have to polish up with some of our rough around the edges inexperienced errors that will come from becoming more mature.

I have been out of the loop for a day or two - is it humanly possible for anyone to explain the Hawk's jumper? I am guessing sposnsorship or awareness campaign but their history of the worst ever jumpers continues unchallenged.

GC up by 1 point at half time.

Look out everyone, this means that GC have 'gone past us' and are 'progessing at a faster rate', while we've beaten no one of note and it's clear that Roos is taking us backwards.

If Hawthorn genuinely throw everything at them, and GCS fight it out tooth and nail and overrun them then you could mount a case for saying their best is better than ours at present, IF they were genuinely down in the first half of the year because of injuries and are now only putting together their best squad. But I don't think they will.

Were you asleep in 2014 when they were on track to make the finals before Ablett went down?

I think they actually try to make it horrible. Pink brown with a touch of yellow. Surely the marketing department know they have the worst jumpers and just play on it.

I think it's foolish to think that any one game can define where a team is at in an overall sense, beating Hawthorn today wouldn't make up for the Suns losing consistently by 70 plus points this season.

Astonishing how Hawthorn is first on the ladder more than half-way through the year despite looking more vulnerable than they have at any other point since 2011.

If they win the flag again this year, it would be an indictment on the league's equalisation measures.

Ok, "officially" was a probably a poor choice of words.

How about- St Kilda are progressing better than us at the moment. The Saints have a had a tougher draw than us and had very honourable close losses against Hawthorn and North. Win next week against GC and they'll be 7-7, an easy draw to come and finals a slight possibility.

Meanwhile we've had a very easy draw, beating our bunnies in Collingwood and Richmond as well as the rubbish QLD sides, and have a horror draw to come.

The one thing we have over them is beating GWS at home.

St Kilda will finish higher on the ladder than is which I'm disappointed about, because unlike the Dogs I thought we'd always be a bit ahead of them in our race to the finals.

Honourable losses against Hawthorn and North? Same for us, if you have fogotten.

As 45hg pointed out earlier, they haven't beaten anyone good other than Geel.

And something you haven't mentioned is that St Kilda have had two major blowouts whilst we haven't.

As for our "bunnies", we hadn't beaten Collingwood for 8 years until last year whilst Richmond have played finals the last 3 years - they may not be superstar teams but our wins against them have far more meaning and relevance than you are letting on.

Geelong are down hill skiers...be interesting to watch their progress this year.

They have an A grade midfield when things are going their way, come unstuck when things are not.

Actually IMO the problem is somewhat the opposite. They seem to get themselves up for games against the best (beating GWS, North and WB in consecutive weeks) but they routinely lose to mid-ranked sides (Coll, Carl, St K).

To me that means the problem for them will be finishing top 2/4, as they may drop easier games, but once they make finals I still see them as a threat.

It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that both St Kilda and Melbourne are getting better at around the same pace. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

Balance and reason will get you nowhere on this board Ricky.

I believe the point is that St Kilda are showing they're slightly ahead in pace because they've beaten a top 8 team this year. We can step up and beat one and then we might be "around the same" pace

Just as we have.

But don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Aren't you doing precisely that by mentioning a team in round 1 playing away that hadn't gone anywhere near their top gear ?

No.  They're a top 8 side, as evidenced by their current position.  We rolled them.

As Ricky said, I think both clubs are on the same trajectory right now.

It's also possible that St Kilda are slightly ahead, but on the same trajectory as us: because they actually stepped up a gear when a top 8 team hit their best form in the third and fourth quarter, but held and on found a way to win in a very mature fashion. I'd like to see us do that as well as beating the Saints, before declaring us the same.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
