Jayden Hunt's Development

Agreed - fast becoming a fan favorite.

The football public will really start to give him credit when they see him playing against their own team - doesn't get any love from commentators or the broader media.  If he was a high draft pick, the football world would be in meltdown over him.

Not sure about that. Macaveney, Hamish McLachlan (who knows the family quite well) and Brereton (on SEN on Monday) have all been glowing in their praise at different times.

Fair enough - but much of that comes during the matches when people see him in the flesh.  When the conversation comes up during the week of who the young guns in the league are, Hunt is rarely considered.  For example, he is not considered in this article as a player who may get a RS nomination in the remaining matches of 2016:

Should he be played on the wing?

Gives him more space and allows him to be an option for defence to go to

Not at the moment, but if Melksham can provide the run Hunt does at the moment, I'd give Hunt stints on the wing next year.

A mate of mine is a teacher and tennis coach at Brighton grammar and knows a few of the boys quite well, namely Hunt, Watts, Dawes and Salem.

Says Hunt was exceptional at tennis and is a very switched on A grade bloke.

Had nothing but praise for all our Brighton boys really, as far as good character goes.

I love how Hunt takes the game on, very exciting and brings a lot to the team.

Collingwood had 4 guys who all  finished Year 12, but never in the same team.

If he keeps putting on weight and growing his hair we could have our new Stinga!

Stinga was one of my favs growing up.

I remember going down into the rooms of the old Olympic stand as a young kid (Believe it or not you could just walk into the rooms and go down a ramp and watch the warm up etc. from behind a rope until it got serious and you got asked to leave. One day I stood behind tingay getting a rub and I couldn't believe the muscles upon muscle he had and the massive scar down his leg from when he fell thru the plate glass window.

Anyway Hunt has a long way to go to get to Tingays size and to play at his level.

Dare i say it, he did remind me a little of a certain young R Flower back in the day...

I am deeply in love with this guy as a player

For years I've been crying out for someone in our team who is fast enough to take on his opponent but also skilled enough not to turn it over

He has really changed the way we move the ball, and will become an integral part of our team

Very interesting insight on Jayden Hunt from Robert Shaw, ex player and current BGS 1st XVIII coach, and also on Jack Watts and how Melbourne failed him development wise early on in his career.

Go to 34.50

Very interesting to hear to listen to that insight.  Sheds some light on the recruiters mindest - there was a lot of criticism on here that we took him in the national draft and didn't rookie him instead.  Sounds like there was some interest from Freo in particular.  Very happy we have Hunt, exactly the dynamic player we need.

Disturbing to hear about Watts, how pathetic was our development!

But that's a different story for another thread.

One could not argue our development prior to Roos era  was pathetic!

Hunt & Wagner etc are an example when you have the right culture etc you can develop players!

Is that 4 in the past 100 years?

Peter Moore was one of them. I wonder who the other three are?

Absolutely but one wanders how would Watts have developed @ Hawks, Swans or Cats??

You could equally argue whether they would have picked him then.

Made some.errors tonight but i am still very excited about this kid.

With more experience those errors will disappear from his game.

Love how he takes the game on and breaks lines. Also puts his body on thr line.

Love this kid

Got it a lot more tonight too, so it makes sense there'd be a few more errors.

He got a lot of positive attention this week so it was good to see him back it up. A less mature player may have focused more on trying to kick the goal of the game again but he was solid defensively and hard at the contest and found much more of the ball.

Jayden Hunt makes a mistake around two times a month but he's getting better every game.

I recall that a fellow Demonlander (can't recall who) reported from our pre-season camp in Qld. that Hunty did something special in a match simulation, and two of our coaches who were on the sidelines immediately looked at each-other and one of them exclaimed "did you see that?".  That comment really piqued my interest in Hunty, and I think we might now be starting to appreciate what the coaches were seeing.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
