Jeff seemed to me to have no confidence at all when attacking the ball, even when fairly clear, have a look at his body language. Was second guessing himself the whole game

Needs a week or two at Casey to get some confidence back IMO.

He isn't the sort of player that needs to be dropped for mine. Jeff just has off and on games, he is that type of player. Always has been and I assume always will be. Still an automatic selection because he is our only pure crumber and small forward. He will come good again in the 1's, no point having him play for Casey when he comes good. Strength of opponent isn't the issue, it's all internal with him.

We lose out by not playing him, and gain very little IMO. As for the incident, looked like he either misjudged or was in two minds.

Our forwards in general had a bad day. Hogan, Kent, Harmes, and Garlett all didn't have the influenced we needed to them to have for us to win. If only 2 of them were "on", we'd have won.

He'll bounce back.

Garlett was the steal of the century.

Has been sensational and will continue the premiership journey as the team improves.

Ffs, he's had a bad couple of weeks.

Very much an integral part of the future.

Worrying about some journos, picking out a minutiae of a millisecond in a footy match? Really?

He deserves a whack for his recent form, was this particular one warrented? maybe not, but hopefully the negative attention gets some better output. Either way from where i was sitting it looked like it went 3m above his head and he just misjudged it completely...

Jeffy has priors for losing all form quickly, clearly a confidence issue  Some players need a whack, others need to be cuddled and to be told how good he is.

I think Jeffy strikes me as one who needs the latter.

And he didn't get that at Carlton. Malthouse was considered great at inspiring his troops but even at Collingwood, players of Garlett's ilk fell out of form and struggled to get back into it. He was discounted at the Blues, found form at Melbourne, and has lost a bit of confidence after a solid start to the year. IMO dropping him to Casey would be the worst for him.

But is that the worst for the team?

How long do we carry him?

Until he rips it up on Monday

Your confidence is commendable iv'a

Sadly I don't share it.

He now plays like he did at Carlton.

One good week and three ordinary ones

3 goals from Jeffy last weekend and we are in the game.

He is a mentally fragile player, but there is no-one on the list who can do what he does, he is a very important player to the structure and to the scoreboard.

He was horrible on Saturday, an absolute liability but I would persist for a bit longer, dropping him may be the best result for this week, but not the best result for the season.

Build him up, play him deep, hope that he gets a couple of cheap ones and hopefully he will be away again.  A couple more weeks of the same stuff though and I think you would need to send him back.

Jeez, people are quick to turn on Garlett. He has been sensational for the vast majority of his time at Melbourne, and is the best small forward we've had in years. The form slump won't last and I'm confident he'll turn it on this week.

I'm not prepared to predict the future, but I agree with the first 2 sentence.

Sadly, we have many members on this forum who come down on a player when he has a bad day.Quick to praise but equally quick to criticise. I strongly agree with your comments.

He has had more than one in the current series BM. A visit to Casey to get his confidence back is in order IMO.

I also don't believe we can have two midgets in an AFL  team these days.

So in my view it is him or Kennedy.

Gee. Everyone here is pretty generous. Jeffy has always been prone to sheet himself, and Saturday was no exception.

But he can kick a goal so you weigh up his good against his bad.

Keep him in the side and back him in to win you the odd game.

I love Jeffy. He is one of my favorite players and seems to set the game alight when he's on. That being said, as I watched the game Saturday I was left shaking my head several times. I just didn't know he COULD play that badly,  he was fully a liability. Almost left us a man short imo.

Maybe just him having a super bad day but If he loses confidence or heart in the wet then we do need to think about replacing him on Monday IF it's still raining. Up and running he's a gun but if  his game is shown up in wet weather then maybe...

Can anyone think of a wet day that he has really shone?

If we dropped every player when they had a bad day we'd make 4 or 5 changes a week, that's unsustainable.

Jeffy is a confidence player and a few words from the coach might be more beneficial than a spell at Casey.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
