First two were open, next two clenched fist but gee I'd be amazed if he goes for them. Couple of taps that Ebert barely noticed.

Viney is getting a little  too frisky with his hands. Attracting to much attention and scrutiny. Sooner or later the MRP will make an example of him.

could we actually see the axe swung this week?

hard not to justify with so many players down, one likely suspended, and two possible injuries. the only caveat for mine is that dawes and trengove both didn't have another game under their belts.

if viney is suspended:

IN: trengove, oliver, dunn, grimes, dawes
OUT: viney (stupid), garland (injured), kent (or kennedy, depending on if the latter is injured), newton, o mac

B: Jetta - Dunn - Wagner
HB: Hunt - T. McDonald - Vince
C: Stretch - N. Jones - Bugg
HF: Petracca - Dawes - Kennedy / Kent
F: Watts - Hogan - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Tyson - Oliver
I/C: Trengove - Neal-Bullen - Grimes - Harmes
Emerg: Newton - Pedersen - Kent / Michie

it's hard to believe, but lumumba appears to be genuinely missed - he's that 'third tall' intercept player, funnily enough playing the role howe is playing at his former club currently, and he allows vince to move up into the midfield rotations more so than playing across half-back. you'd imagine having missed a month of footy he'll at least need a game under his belt in the vfl before coming back into the senior side.

Insufficient force surely! Deserves a fine msybe but if he goes that would be the softest week you could get

I think the last three all connected, with the last one Ebert's head went back. Ebert stood his ground and finished with one himself before they separated. I think Ebert was genuinely shocked before he got his one in. It's not a good look despite no one going to ground, I tend to think like ADC has summed up here: -

Will this week be the week that this incident will be made an example of?

I agree it has attracted a fair bit of attention.

Deserves a month for being a DH...and a sook.

Luckily they don't grade on that.

Damn right he does but the MRP only care if you cause damage and since Ebert was grinning afterwards from the silly little love taps I would assume its insufficient.

Just on selection, it's a minimum of 4 changes.  5 is not out of the question.  Our biggest issue is defensive balance with Garland (presumably) and Omac both needing to be replaced.  Pederson going down back looms likely with Dawes coming in to the CHF role.  Oliver, Trengove and one of Grimes or Vandenberg would be the other logical changes (with the outs being some combination of Viney / Kennedy / ANB / Newton / Harmes / Kent).  I thought Hunt and Stretch were ok.

Personally, would be much happier if Dunn returns down back and both Dawes and Pederson are in and we start rotating the three of them through the forward line and two of them (Gawn and Pederson) through the ruck.  This puts a bit more duress on the midfield and Trenners (with his elite tank) needs to be part of the solution.  The current arrangement with Gawn is not sustainable.

I am going to use this, she has had nearly 70. Also we have a wedding anniversary every year and honestly after 48 you would think she wont notice.

The PC brigade will say things like "Its not a good look". "Punches to the head are not what we want to see in our game" "not acceptable" and despite the low impact (thick head, no brain no pain) he will get a week at least. My concern is that they looked pretty decent and yet Ebert barely reacted. Viney hits like a girl will be resonating around MFC games for a while methinks. Jones needs to give him some boxing lessons.

Not sure if Oliver will play, he was on crutches on Saturday watching Mooroopna getting flogged by Mansfield.

You think by setting up your 'argument' around the 'PC brigade' will allow you to get away with sexist comments? What are you actually trying to achieve with that post?

Have an Idea, most sides use a tall forward to go in as a second ruck, why don't we use a tall defender to follow them in.  On that basis I would line up as

Jetta T McDonald Frost

Hunt Wagner Grimes

Vince N Jones Stretch

Watts Dawes Petracca

Garlett Hogan Kent

Gawn Viney Trengove

Oliver, Tyson, Harmes, Bugg

Out Garland, O McDonald, ANB, Newton, Kennedy

in Frost, Grimes, Dawes, Trengove, Oliver

Bugg to Bugg Mitchell all night, Grimes locks onto Rioli

 M. WHITE(Upgrade FFS), Frosticle , Laurence Olivier, Pedosaurus, Trendy Jack....hmmm give the Casey coach a crack....um...for the outs take your pick: Any of them bar Never better, Bones, Bogan, What's.. To the whole team: please(shouldn't have to ask nicely) actually turn up motivated/rested/healthy and energised this week?...at least pretend to know what your doing...like you get paid(rather [censored] handsomely might I ad) to play ONE type of game. Fake it till ya make it if you have to!..just show some farkin enthusiasm ..you might just swindle em! Imbeciles..."We were tired, or not old enough or...too old or not fit or ignorant of how to play football...give me a farken break...this is your chosen profession; It is like your saying that other teams don't deal with these issues themselves! Pull the proverbial finger out or pizz off and let someone of Bolton et al ilk inspire a rapid turn around. Fair dinkum coaches, how many times can you look at the camera with a straight face and say we messed up at selection before someone in admin says "you can't be farken serious, pack your bags and go hoodwink someone else". I've become angry now and it's your bloody fault;' I'm not accountable for any of my actions and I get paid generously for that!'..Sweet Jesus! What happened to that confidence, effort, comradery and smart/finessing teamwork so evident in the Norf game? If some things not working, farken change it...why so slow/inept at adapting to the changing complexion within games? Are you farken blind/slow?(not just talking to you Max Gawn) Is this some kind of perverse tactic to bamboozle the opposition?!-do nothing and wait for the stars to align?! Where are the comprehensive, dynamic, prepared responses to any specific difficulty you might encounter in any given match fleamons? Where is the foresight?!

Here's an idea: all of you on Demonland that have a decent understanding/fluency of how the game is played get together in conference and present a strategy for this weeks match vs Dork's to the coaching panel. Plans A, B, C , D , E, F thru to Z. Make it public for the rest of us to scrutinise just before the commencement of the game(Im looking for..."if so and so happens then this or this if that happens etc etc flesh it out...hell we could run a competition with the winner actually having the opportunity to be the coach for a day)!  Having perused the site I know more than a handful of you actually know the game well enough to come up with something legible. Fark! That is comes to this...

P.S. Matt Burgan; your starting to pizz me off with your gently, gently bullshite and sanguine witness; ask some hard questions of your subjects(maybe in a boxing ring whilst sparring..)? Sick of hearing players respond like robots spieling prepared statements scripted by people managers in the clubs shady PR wings. (not terribly sincere about this part...but you know what im talking about right)?!

I think this would be right, although i think i could easily swap Newton and Kennedy. Either way i would think those are the right changes. They might try squeeze Trenners in somewhere too. I dont expect there would be 5 changes though.

I don't know why everybody wants Frost in in place of OMac. I have been to quite a few Casey games and I can tell you that OMac is a much better defensive option than Frost any day.

Firstly I was suggesting that whislt his hits had little or no impact the MRC may bow to the PC brigade an penalise him anyway.

Secondly I think footballers are great at sledging and that Viney will be taunted for landing 3 or 4 whacks (open or closed handed) that did not seem faze Ebert at all. I have played in enough male sports competitions to know that the insult I used as an example will be thrown about but if it offends you or anyone else I apologise and will suggest that he has a punch like a limp lettuce leaf.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
