I think I've heard this story before.

Wasn't our day supposed to be coming about five years ago after we snapped up all those early draft picks around 2008/9?

Shudder!

Don't suppose one of you blokes could paste the article into a pm for me.

Cheers.

You have to be careful how you do the paste of the URL into a search in google depending on your browser.  Need to use a browser where there is a separate place to enter the URL you have copied (not Chrome for example).  And sometimes you have to delete some of the first part of the URL.  Just cut the search down to something like:

Pro tip: If you are using chrome (and most other browsers) putting a question mark at the start of the url will cause it to always be googled (or binged if you are that person) rather than redirected.

Man I hate how its either:   "DEE-plorable" Pathetic dees etc

or they'll win a flag.

how about just report how it is.   we were shocking, we are now an OK, decent, average team with potential. guess that doesnt sell 'clicks' on a website

I still remember vidily Brucey saying:  "Oooh these Demons are going to be Something!"  back in ~2010.  well no, we were not

Bruce says alot of things... Very few of them have any real comprehensible logic attatched to them. And even those that do are usualy phased as a question.

"If he has a big second half they win dont you think?"
"He has been in everything hasn't he?"
"Did he kick it?!"
"Is it over?"
"It can't be over can it?"
"Have you seen any better?"
"You have to love him don't you?"

I could go on... there was a pretty good video back in round 2 highlighting all his stupid questions in the richmond collingwood game. On the greenfield post fb page I think it was but not 100% sure.

With all this positive media again... we are screwed this week.

You have to get your mind around a new idea Gorgoroth

We are now a reasonable side that is going to regulaerly win games.

Not all of them but we will win 10+ this year and more next year.

The big difference is we have an AFL quality list now.

What the media says will have no bearing on how we play.

We are not the easy beats any longer ( well most weeks )

works fine in chrome - just cut/paste the title text (or some of) from the title

Well this is a problem... my brain is hardwired to think that everything that comes out of KB's mouth is crap. Yet I want to believe this is true.

Are you a regular listener to KB?
I suspect not.

I am and what you you need to understand is that a lot of what he says on SEN is very much tongue in cheek.

Also remember it was he who started the whole idea that the number of rotations was leading the constant rolling maul of stoppages.

Guess what the number has been reduced and the game has improved for the better.

Like everyone he is not the fountain of all knowledge and wisdom but he is no idiot.

that's right - I was making the point that in chrome if you paste the entire copied URL, you get clobbered by the firewall.  The preceding ? ploy looks good  but I often have to resort to using just some of the title text.

Does any IT guru out there know why any of this works? What does google do to the URL when you click on it after a search that is different from the original URL which gets trapped by the firewall?

heh, doing the google search trick didn't work, but if I then went to the relevant image and followed the 'go to website' link from there, it let me in.

Fluff article. Just a bit of friendly pre-game hype.

This is an interesting stat form the article:  What makes Melbourne’s scoring even more impressive is their spread of goalkickers — they currently rank No. 1 the AFL with an average of nine individual contributors a game.

If I recall correctly we are in the top 5 for scores kicked this year.

Not bad for a team that in the last few years struggled to kick more than 60-70pts and regularly thrashed by 10 goals!!

A daily listener? no I'm not, but I listen frequent-ish. I will admit occasionaly he says stuff i agree with and he is not dumb by any means but i find most of his opinions just a bit too outdated, for me. But part of the reason I listen to him is because I disagree. I like to know both sides. He sparks interesting conversation and topics. I just rarely side with him. This case? god I hope he's right!!

Note on the rotations: Correlation does not equal Causation. (some other fun correlations: http://www.tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations) While it may be true there is no guarantee the rotations is the only or even the main reason for the improvements. Deliberate out of bounds I think has had a huge influence, players activly keeping it in. The protected area has made ball movement easier with so much more space. Not to mention every single club is trying to increase their ball movement speed which will increase scores as well.

There are more touches of Geelong about the young Demons. The frenetic movement of the ball. A collection of medium-sized forwards who will lead back to goal, while a key target, in this case Matthew Bate, plays the hit-up centre half-forward role, leading hard and straight up the ground.

Ricky Petterd and Colin Sylvia play roles similar to the Cats' Paul Chapman and Steve Johnson, better overhead than their size would indicate but just as capable at ground level, while Brad Green, much like Jimmy Bartel, can pick up a swag of possessions midfield then creep forward to provide another dangerous goalkicking target.

Melbourne's defence, while having looked the most promising part of its rebuilding, took another huge step forward on Saturday night via James Frawley and Matthew Warnock's efforts on Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola, respectively. Like Geelong's key defenders, Frawley is mobile and smart enough to pick up his own touches, too, while the incredibly composed Jack Grimes and valuable pick-up Joel Macdonald perform the defensive playmaking parts the Cats assign to Andrew Mackie and Corey Enright.

Aaron Davey is Melbourne's linkman as Gary Ablett is to the Cats, his pace and beautiful disposal turning defence into attack in the blink of an eye, the Demons' leg speed generally allowing plenty of overlap coming through the centre square.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
