Petracca asked where (position) he'll be playing later in his career. Andy says: Say Carlton mate! Christian: Nah sorry, Melbourne for life

I just wish last year's R/S winner would say the same thing!

Not quite - Petracca got two votes and Oliver one. A more satisfying way to look at it is that Melbourne is the only club with two players getting votes.

Quite happy to keep the media expectations low on our young guns. We'll never know how much influence winning it last year had on Jesse, but I'd much prefer our guys being underrated by other clubs. We just need to continue going about our business and improving. The less pressure, the better at the moment.

They only showed the top 5 in the Age.

Petracca 2, Mills 49 and Oliver 1 vote, seriously. I'll take my two players for 3 votes Vs Mills any day and he only received 46 more votes than them or is that 15 times as many votes!.

As I said last year, it's a nothing award. I can understand supporters caring when there's little to cheer about, but the skies look blue and our list is genuinely exciting. It doesn't matter if they didn't poll well in the Rising Star. I don't think any of them deserved to anyway.

If we want to look at it a different way, we had 4 nominations and one other (Hunt) who deserved one.  That's 5 young players who were recognised for their talents and abilities this year.  I'll take that every day of the week.

Doesn't really register a blip on my radar, I was happy for Jesse last year but ultimately it means very little in the grand scheme of things.

As Wiseblood said, we had 4 nominations and Hunt was super unlucky not to get one himself. This award is all about the future and it looks pretty bright for us!

Hunt winning our best young player award tonight shows how ridiculous the award is.

They should revamp it. All players under 21 with less then 10 games experience at the start of the year can remain eligable. Have 9 judges who take 1 game a week each and give votes similar to the brownlow of 3, 2, 1 for players who meet the criteria in that match. You can then maybe still have a weekly standout player who picks up a bonus vote for the final count that's announced each Tuesday similar to now.

Just a thought anyway.

Edit: Just realized this should probably be in the standard rising star thread.

As AF said earlier in this thread - who knows what the award did to Jesse's mind? He was either carrying a chronic injury all year, or a swollen head.

I am just really happy that we have blooded a handful of youngsters who could all turn out to be very good long term players.

Disagree with your last statement, but otherwise on the money.

Personally, the award I hope the poll much better in is the Norm Smith in a MFC premiership team - everything else is pretty much rubbish.

Comes across as a great young man. What he was able to produce for us in 2016 was incredible considering his age, inexperience and recovery from a serious injury.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
