If he's not injured, even if it's not this week, he'll be back. And that'll be the case at least until he's overtaken by Weiderman or Hullet.

Like him or not, he straightens us up, and brings experience, leadership and organisation to the forward line. He knows what to do and where to run to, and whatever else, he's agressive and always gives 100%. I don't know that Pedersen or Frost (or anyone else at the moment) do any/all that.

I accept that he hasn't always starred for us, but he's had such a rotten run with injuries, he's never really had a settled run at it either. Overall, I've always felt we're a better team with him in it.

I could be wrong of course (!!), and we shall see, but sooner or later we're going to find out. Injuries permitting.

He is in his last year and we have other fish to fry.

Pedersen brings more options and is up for duty way more often.

Barring injuries he is Casey player for mine.

I have never been more uncertain about selection than this week. We are getting to the stage where decent players, who are in ok form, will just have to miss. Obviously it's a good position to be in.

To those calling for Lumumba to come back in, I'd expect Mitch White to be in contention instead. He played very well for Casey on Saturday night.

Although now if think about it, I can't remember if he's on the Rookie list, that may rule him out.

Unfortunately we can't just pick our best available 22, there are too many other factors to consider. Six day turnaround, coach saying 3-4 will definitely be rested, irrepressible form of many of our Casey players, Port Adelaide's style of running play but with no efective ruckman, and even the ongoing discussions about the shape and personnel of our backline. The more I think about it I keep changing my mind, and am now swinging toward playing both Spencer and Gawn, splitting their ruck duties 50/50 and playing Gawn as a resting tall forward.

A bit surprised to see no discussion around Wagner.  Think he might go out for a week or so.  It's been a solid block but there's been a few ragged edges in the last couple of weeks.  Dunn is the obvious match-up on Dixon I would've thought.  Garland must stay in the team - looked like he was running in to a bit of form in the 2nd half and confidence was lifting.  Jetta a lock, OMac back to Casey.  Tyson back in (assuming he's ok) for Newton.  Can't drop ANB on that performance.  I think Roos would love to play Dawes and given there's no Casey game, I think it will happen.  Not sure who makes way though.

Give Big M a rest and bring Spencil in for some game time and to get a feel for the pace of AFL again. Might need him later if Maxy gets injured/suspended or to go up agaInst a taller team like the Pies/Weagles in a few weeks.

The rest I'll be happy to back the match committee.

As long as we're picking guys who can hit targets by foot at a decent (AFL) standard and kick accurately for goal when pushing forward.

I'd swap Hunt for Wagner (unlucky), but that is already a much more balanced looking backline.

I'm getting the same gut feel but doesn't make sense that we would play 2 rucks when Port don't actually have 1 genuine ruck

2 rucks against nothing worked against Geelong last year at the cattery so i would not be against it just because they do not have a decent one.

Max is looking like everything he does is painful.  Pretty sure that thumb is giving him major issues, hence so many dropped marks.

Wagner is getting sloppier i think he needs to be dropped this week, would be better if the VFL was playing but just smash him on the track getting his kicking skills in order.

Omac was great at times considering he had little help on many occasions and was out numbered.

Garland had a ripper, just hope he doesn't drop off again.

I think they will defiantly leave Clarry out, he is a kid and we have plenty to replace him with.

Hunt may be another to be left out, after one of his dashes he came off the ground and was really struggling to get his breath back.

Viv is very lucky.

Wasn't too impressed with ANB, but one game isn't enough.

Newts only in for Tyson being out so he comes back out.

Billy was awesome and I am really annoyed at the AFL for not listing him in the Bests.

In: Spencer, Grimes, Jetta, Tyson

Out: Wagner (Grimes) Hunt (Jetta) Newton (Tyson) Clarry (Spencer)

Would love to see White given a chance but he is still a rookie.

I reckon he'd be the perfect back-pocket alongside Jetta.

Tough, skilled and is a rebound player.

Alice/Darwin...

We are playing some where bloody hot and humid.

Need runners.

Forecast for Alice Springs next Saturday. Maximum 23C, overnight minimum 9C.

Would be surprised if there weren't a larger number of changes than usual given the short turnaround, and some players who are struggling to put in 4 quarter efforts at present.

In: Jetta, Tyson, Pedersen, Grimes, Trengove, maybe Spencer

Out: Michie, Wagner, Kent, (Oscar) McDonald, any of Hunt, Harmes, Oliver possible

SEN reporting Robbie Gray will be at least fined for tripping, his 3rd fine which equals automatic suspension. Massive bonus for us

And this

Port Adelaide's concerns go beyond its 4-5 record, with skipper Travis Boak, Hamish Hartlett and Darcy Byrne-Jones pulling up sore after playing West Coast.

Boak should be fine after copping a knock to his midsection but Hartlett (corked leg) and Byrne-Jones (rolled ankle) will likely face fitness tests.

South Aussies will probably stay in, loving the contest but not sure on the outs. Twin towers good enough for me and Trengove in  too.

But aren't we a lucky bunch at the moment.....

Funny how the better you get the more luck you seem to have.

At 23 degrees, Clarry will be burnt alive. That kid was built for closed stadiums.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
