I don’t like him

I hate it but glass houses and all that. Spargo and Kozzie have been guilty of the exact same thing this year.

LOL post-match when Hodge asked Mitch Robinson about Mathieson’s antics. Of course he’s gonna not only condone it but actively encourage it, coz Mitch Robinson. ?

He deserves brownie points for getting under Richmonds skin. He also played arguably his best game for the Lions.

Lachie Hunter and Toby McLean from the Dogs are two others who do the same thing and it's annoying but it's the afls fault for refusing to knock it on the head years ago when Selwood started exploiting this tactic

My opinion is make them pay if they do it. A strong round arm tackle that cops a guy in the head because he ducks into may make him think twice about doing it again.

As mentioned above, umpires need to be held accountable and their performance reviewed.

Rules are already there for ducking and staging. They're not enforced.

This whole interepative rule of the week to be enforced swill is making the game look as stupid as Rugby Union.

The fact Selwood has got away for it for so many years is not Selwoods fault.

Yep especially Kozzie, it’s about the only thing, he needs to get out of his game, he’s to good for that sort of thing.

Spargs does go in low but l don’t think he’s looking for a free

AFL need to look into Marlion Pickett but not for ducking

Rhys "Beast Mode" Mathieson was said to call himself the barometer. I guess that's compensation for playing the medi-sub seven games in a row.

Surely he has to be one of if not the most over-hyped and useless players in the system. It's a shame to hear the commentators even give him a moment's chat.

I'm tempted to say I'm glad he played against us, he wasn't damaging at all (from a football perspective). However, he had a tendency to lay the knees into backs, knock off heads with late contact, and bodyline Gawn with no intent for the ball. I look forward to the day he's delisted.

he should have been reported for what he did deliberately to gawn

we could have easily lost gawny for the rest of the finals

Should be reported for that, but won't be because the TV commentators ignored it.

The front on hit to Gawn was appalling. No intent to even contest the ball, just wanted to break Gawns ribs. Should’ve been reported for that. Not in the spirit of the game at all.

Mathieson is just a [censored] footballer and a [censored] bloke. What kind of arrogant piece of [censored] calls themselves the barometer or the beast, especially when they’re a fringe player who can barely get a game. Pathetic individual. Glad his serial ducking didn’t earn him more free kicks last night. He is the exact thing wrong with the sport. Cheating grub and a [censored] footballer who thinks he’s gods gift to the world. Hopefully he gets delisted and winds up stacking shelves. [censored].

Ditto from me. Harsh at the end but I get the sentiment.  Lots of average blokes playing suburban footy get in and don’t shirk or play for the ump to give them a free kick. Grub.

Agreed, intentional and gutless.

Face like a stale pancake. Wouldn’t cut it as Gary Hocking’s wingman

Seeing that mugs face and him twitching in line before the start of the game was another omen that happened before the start of the game that gave me heart we would win. Told the Brissy supporter at work, he plays we win.

The Grub of The Year Award the last 6 years has been Toby Greene and this bloke second, daylight the rest of the field.

If he was born 300 years ago he'd bluff his way all the up to be the Kings pizz boy.

Wee are amused by this observation.

However, in poker terms, he's more your pair of twos than a royal flush.

He's a disruptor. Plays the game as a rule bender and to an extent thats ok but it goes too far time and time again. It could have been a very bad injury so I would have thought he'd get sighted at least.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
