VFL form and training suggest he's ready to go. If that is the case, and it's not teaching him a lesson, would it not be something of a double standard with Oliver given his opportunity from the off?

Basically Petracca had not played a game since the 2014 TAC season. That is a good 18 months. Then has rehabbed but again took 2 months off without really touching a ball.

Oliver had played all last season, done all preseason asked - played intraclub and games of NAB.

Simply - Oliver was ahead of Petracca fitness wise allowing him to be selected straight up but we have already seen a quieter Oliver in week 4 (and now rested) and even in his first two weeks he was on limited time and tired in the last quarter of his first few games ( he actually looked the best last week in the last quarter)

I think it was in your Hippocratic oath that you took when you signed on to the massive responsibility to have such power at Demonland.

(Apology accepted, but only out of fear for being smited.)

Nice word smite. May Richmond be smited ( or smitten?)by the 10 plagues of Moses, and then some.

I understand that and if the lesson teaching is no longer coming into the decision, no qualms.

The counter point is that he was actually named, and was to play if Garlett didn't come up. So it's not as though he's not deemed to be fit enough, albeit on limited time most likely.

It just seems a strange way to have gone about things. I am admittedly keen to see what sort of weapon we have on our hands.

I pity Williamstown with Petracca, Oliver, Trengrove and ANB vying for spots in the seniors.

I managed to get along to training yesterday, for the first time in years. It is good to be back in Melbourne.

The atmosphere was great, I was mostly just enjoying soaking it up and how different it was, compared to say 2009.

All kinds of intense, much shorter time setting up and getting organised for each new drill, and a mood a cheerful competitiveness.

One thing is very, very clear - for the full ground drills the emphasis was all on fast ball movement and not f'ing it up, and being ready to get back when the chain does break. There was also a lot of time spent on shots on goal from general play running to/across the 50.

Or, as (I think it was) McCartney put it -

"The ball is electrified! We want electric ball movement! Piew-wiew-wiew!"

Like I said, the mood was energetic and intense but also pretty cheerful.

As a side note, Alastair Lynch was waiting by the boundary, presumably for an after-session coffee with Roos? Next thing you know, Roos has taunted and called him out onto the ground and our defenders are training with a hall-of-famer holding the jump padding. Good times.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
