Caveat Emptor

Well hot on the heels of the great victory against the filth is the sobering realisation that, unless we double up and win against Ninethmond have we really improved that much at all?

Conversely as the warning title suggests, I think this game is even more season defining as any!

For eons we have been unable to produce multiple wins together, much less a string of wins to gain momentum. I would like to think we can but until we do I remain skeptical and after following this club for nearly 50 years I feel justified in presenting the  Caveat Emptor!

I'm actually not struggling with it.

We are getting lots of good press on how we have improved and the direction we are headed but didn't we hear the same thing after our GWS win to go on and lose to a very ordinary outfit in Essendon.

I get disappointed when we lose as I was after the North loss but we gave it a red hot go so I took some solace out of the loss

I get bitterly disappointed when we play like we did against Essendon  - I took nothing out of that loss except that so much of football is played above the shoulders and we were found very lacking in that department.

So here we are again - no different to how we were after the GWS game - the choice this Sunday for the players is to have learned what minimum effort is required against all teams after the Essendon game debacle.

I am backing us to have learned but also understand Pickets skepticism - as Ronald Reagan said "trust but verify" ( he also said "my false teeth have fallen into my oatmeal")

It's going to be a tough game.

We have done well against the Tigers over the last few years, but we are favourites after a good win so we have mental demons of our own.

Tigers are playing terrible football but have quite a lot of good players who if we let them can treat is apart.

If we can't pressure the Tigers for 120 minutes and play good footy ourselves we lose.  I truly believe this game is in our hands.

Proof of the club's progression is in the OP pudding. Usually by round 5 we no longer have a season to further define.

Yes, we're usually looking forward to trade and draft periods by now.

I want to. My cash is sitting here ready and waiting. If we beat Richmind, then absolutey. If we dont I still believe we have improved. We may not play finals but I believe we will have more than seven wins.

I said after the gws win that all comments about how good we are by the players and staff should be censored until we have strung at least 2 wins in a row on the board. I got quite a few nods of agreement from that. We have so far too go that we need to pull our heads in and let the oppostion do all the talking.

I'm in agreement with this -  danger of a poor performance written all over this week.   I won't use any fancy Latin terms but instead call it "Media Street".

I get concerned when after a good win there's a string of interviews with players pumping up each other's tyres -  seen it too many times, including only a couple of weeks ago after GWS.   After GWS I would have preferred the club to hold back players in media this week and just had Roosy controlling the message -  it's felt like a few too many drinking their own bathwater.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
