Jack Viney Brownlow?

Umps hate him, rarely gets a free unless his head is ripped off so unlikely to poll well.

It's not that they hate him. They just don't bother blowing the whistle because they know he's not going to stick around to take the kick. They should treat Jack like a terrier when adjudicating advantage and assume he doesn't have the capacity to stay of his own accord.

Had a big nibble on him at the start of the season at $251 and had another nibble yesterday morning at $101.

I'm not much of a punter, I don't mind the odd flutter during Spring carnival, but I pick a bet or two each year that will give me value. I see value in Jack. I reckon he's within a couple votes of the leader at present.

This on the back of that I thought he caught the umpires eyes last year in the Count.

With Jack because he plays the game hard, there is risk for injury or suspension. I'll take that risk on.

No chance, the coaches may notice him but the Brownlow comes down to who the umpires notice and I'm afraid Jack just wont be noticed.

If anything, he'll have a ripper year, will poll well with the coaches and then the umpires will be like ohh yeah I guess he was OK and then next year he'll get votes in games that he shouldn't.

After the North game where they missed multiple obvious throws, I don't think the umpires' eyesight can be trusted in the slightest.

Viney is now leader in the Herald-Sun "Player of the Year" award (leading Patrick Dangerfield)!

Over the years I have mostly got it right with players, but I got two wrong recently.

I said HL was finished after the Bombers game and I have apologized to him on here over that. He is now playing very good footy.

The other one was Viney. While I never doubted his talent and effort, last year I just thought he might be too small for the modern game. Boy was I wrong. He is now one of our best players and leads the charge each week. He is like a Captain. Tough as nails. Never giving in. Second and third efforts. The first in to defend a mate. You just have to love him. I suppose being the son of Todd it is not surprising in the way he plays. He appears loved by the team and the fans. I would love to see him win the Norm Smith in a Demons Premiership.

I suspect that the maggots will be seeing a lot of him but will think he is too rough for their liking.

Should he appear to be leading some of the 'favored sons' late in the year my ingrained paranoia feels the MRP will dream up some pretext like a fierce tackle to make him ineligible.

Gawn might be an issue. How many votes would he have already?

We have a few others who will 'steal/share' votes, too.

Such a pity.

Well he is at least on 5. Has an easy run of ruck man coming up. Could very well be on 15-18 by the midway mark. Massive chance of winning the brownlow IMO, I am going to start offloading during the week, already into us to make the 8 at $12's, and heavily into Petracca for the rising star - which I still think he will win.

Really want to be with you there as I reckon he will be the best player from this crop but Its really hard to win this having missed 5 games, in fact I think it has only been done once very early on if at all

Jack Viney's odds on Sportsbet is really good!!

$31.00

Shop around. He's $41 on TAB.

I got 50s this morning. They're reeling him in for a reason!

If he plays 3 or 4 more games like he has in his next 6 games, there won't be many finger nails among us by round 16!

Don't bother with the Petracca bet. He would have to be crazy good to win from here, would required him to be picked this week and barely have an off game for the rest of the season. That doesn't happen for debutants. It's also a decent class this year, he has some ground to make up so would have to be clearly above those who will play 20+ games. Just my opinion.

Don't think so

I'd say in terms of career achievements, they're now virtually neck and neck. This year will be a good one to compare them. Wines isn't having as much as an impact, but is coming off injuries. Interesting comparison.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
