Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

IN: Garlett, Vince

OUT: M. Jones (stiff, but the above two have to come in), Oliver (rested)

FB: Wagner, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Lumumba, T. McDonald, Salem

C: Bugg, N. Jones, Tyson

HF: Harmes, Hogan, Kent

FF: Watts, Pedersen, Garlett

FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Viney

INT: Brayshaw, Frost, Hunt, Kennedy

EMERG: M. Jones, Petracca, Vandenberg

Matt Jones very stiff, but I don't know who else to leave out?  Roosy seems to like giving new kids a couple of games, so don't think it will be Hunt, be who knows?  I'd have Matt Jones as the 23rd man given how unlucky he is.  Petracca can have another run at VFL level.

Garlett and Bernie are best 22 in fact best dozen so they both have to come in no ifs or buts unless Garlett requires another week.  Maric will go it alone against Big Max so do we need both Pedersen and Frost, which I believe will be one of the unlucky omissions.

I think Oliver would have been given a rest if it was a 6 day turnaround but I think he may get another game under his belt and a rest the following week against the Saints.

Brayshaw, Matt Jones and Hunt will be one of the other unlucky omissions.

Petracca may be a chance but trying to find a likely out is something that after many long years is finally difficult

We have two massive advantages this week.

  1. Ruck - Gawn against a very underdone Maric with pinch hitting from Vickery should give us an enormous advantage at the clearances.
  2. Small Forwards: Simply Richmond have no match-ups for Garlett, Kennedy, Kent. They could run wild.

We should be able to exploit these clear advantages.

I think CP5 is a chance to play and obviously Vince and Garlett are certainties.  I think Frost or Paterson will make way for Garlett.  Vince will replace Hunt and if CP5 is given a run it will be while resting Oliver.

That's about the dumbest thing I've ever read. Stephen Powell kicked 32 goals in 2000, Bugg hasn't even scored this year. He just doesn't hurt teams with his possessions, no matter how many of them he has.

bugg is tough and an accumulator similar to powell !!!!!!! but thanks for the insult arswhole.

If we have to choose between Pederson and Frost, I'd rather Pedo for the here and now but can understand wanting to get Frost up and going (he's showing some positive signs). It's a tough call.

When in doubt ... last in, first out is the rule of thumb that the match committee might use as a default method.

So, the players who came in as replacements for our game against Collingwood could be the ones under consideration to make way for Vince/Garlett/Petracca (if indeed all 3 do come in)

Brayshaw, Pedersen & Hunt came in for the pies game but I've a feeling that 1 or 2 others might miss because of injury.

Hard to see them not picking Brayshaw but Hunt & Pedersen might be the unlucky ones to miss out. Regardless, it's a nice position to be in.

I think giving Frost an extended run is more important, he played his best game on the weekend and still has a lot of room for improvement. He is still raw,  he is still a young,  developing tall,  and was drafted to and can be a very important cog in the machine if we're looking for someone who could potential be a swingman or cover for Gawn in a worst case scenario. His marking needs some work,  but so did Gawns at one point.  His follow up efforts are great,  his pace is great and there are signs there.

Pedersen s what he is (which imo is good enough) time to backup judgement which saw us draft Frost in the first place and back him

Ha! ... it's just an "old school" (pardon the pun) way of dealing with the selecting of a team ... the player or players who come in as replacements are under no illusion that they're going to make way once the established top player or other top players return.  That can be explained to them in advance too - but not always.

Unless, of course those replacement players absolutely dominate or in the case of Brayshaw, he was returning to the team rather than being brought in as a replacement.

Another way of selecting the team would be to look long term ... Pedersen & Matt Jones may not be seen as the future so both could make way

Or, a youngster or 2 could be "rested" (so to speak) for a number of reasons ... sometimes dropping a young player when they don't really deserve to be dropped is a way of improving that player - you know, see what he's made of and all that, toughen them up etc etc.  Even Bradman got dropped (after his first game)

What starts out as a perceived negative can be turned into a huge positive ... again, it's a nice position to be in EH.  The eventual selected team won't be in a comfort zone - and that's a good thing.

In's - Vince & Garlett

Out's - I agree give Oliver a weeks rest and if Gus comes up, it's either Matt Jones or Hunt both very unlucky. I would not drop Bugg, Lumumba or Frost.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
