Have about 4 single malts and it will make perfect sense.

I have enough good whiskey to do that. I'm off the alcohol at the moment. I need to lose 10 kgs. Does anyone know of a low calorie high fibre single malt I could try ???

Goodwin hinted in his post game interview that Wagner might be the rookie that is upgraded.

Given that he is a rookie player he did pretty well today, I thought!

Some tough task masters on here.

Harmes in the Round 1 Team. Kent ... not sure he's there yet.

Like what Bugg brings, but sooner or later, he'll have to improve his disposal/kicking, or be replaced by someone who doesn't.

Wagner still a way to go, but as observed above, he did improve in the second half. Seems to know what to do, but as with Bugg, disposal, disposal, disposal.

Frost still a work in progress. Like his mobility around the ground, but he needs to do more with it. A few (more) glimpses today though.

Getting harder to see a place or role for Grimes.

Let's hope Max Gawn stays fit and healthy.

I like him but we can't have blokes kicking 0.4

Didn't cost us the game but it will against better sides

We should have won by 10 goals today

It was very interesting watching Hogan today, he still impacted the contest, kicked 2 goals, and played a key part in at least 2-3 i can think of, but he would say he had a poor game. The last quarter every time he dropped a mark he would look at his hands as iff to say "what the hell is wrong with me?" And it's a good question, he doesn't want to become a Cloke-like forward where he has to clunk a few marks early to have a good game. Ultimately even though he had a poor game by his standards he still created opportunities.

He was filthy..good stuff.

Nothing against Wagner, he should be given a bit of time, but I would be shocked if he got a game round 1 after today.

Grimes looked well out of sorts today. A heart and soul player but the queries on his value to the team still persist.

If we cut the skill errors down by 50% from what they have been in the NAB cup we are a huge chance to win 10

I think if we cut our skill errors down, we'll win a lot more than ten. Unfortunately, I think it'll take the season to iron out these sorts of skill errors. Reckon we'll win 10-12 games though.

I just got home from the game so I thought I'd give my perspective:

  • The crowds cheer for Watts's 50 meter penalty was genuine, not like the bronx cheers of last year. The best I've ever seen Watts play, for the first time ever I couldn't fault his performance
  • During the first quarter the Saints were killing us around the wing,as soon as they went wide we couldn't stop them and they penetrated our defence
  • Kent's evasive skills are the best in the league. He had a great game, his defensive pressure was intense and his goal in the second quarter was amazing
  • I will not say Oliver will be a star because he already is one
  • We started moving the ball too slow towards the end of the scond quarter that lead to turnovers and goals for the Saints
  • After Jeffy's 2 goals in the third quarter,we seemed to work hard for our goals while the Saints got cheep ones keeping them in the game.We should have had them buried by the end of the third quarter
  • Bugg's mark in the last quarter was amazing
  • Hogan started scoring in the last but his support for the other forwards throughout the match was equally effective although some of these efforts might fly underneath the radar.

Just a sidenote about Etihad,a bucket of chips and a coke cost $12 and the gate I exited only had one turnstile with hundreds of people lining up to get out.No wonder everyone hates the place.

One more thing,I had to wait at Richmond station for about half an hour for a connecting train. While there I looked over the Melbourne sporting precinct and envisioned Eddie's plan.If it were to happen,Eddiehad stadium would butt up against the MCG and commuters from the eastern suburbs would be delayed for years as the underground railway was built.Eddie obviously has no idea about logistics and I think there maybe something wrong with him.

I think you read too much into his answer. The journo asked him about rookie elevations and mentioned Wagner. Goodwin was non-committal about Wagner, and just said that we had a couple of weeks to decide.

Temper expectations. Much better to be surprised than to extrapolate. What is clear is a discernable, intentional  application which has every opportunity to evolve.

You reckon our application may evolve? Hope not, it was pretty bloody good

We never looked like losing it how good a feeling is that?!?

Good even contribution. Watts was terrific and McDonald got back on track. Oliver plays round one.

I don't mean to be a downer, but i think Wagner is still a little way off where he needs to be for AFL level

As is OMac, but this is good senior experience towards their development. They went missing at times and had some miserable turnovers, but both steadied in the last and looked much better. Not sure if they'll play round 1, but this is good for them long term.

Yes I was at 10 wins before the NAB but now I'll bump it to 11. I really think that last year's top 4 (Hawks, Dockers, Swans, Eagles) plus maybe Collingwood and Geelong are the only sides who truly have the wood over us. We are a red hot chance against everyone else IMO. We have only one match of the first 10 against those sides, but 7 more in the remaining 12.

Another 15 goals and 100+ points. Clear intent to move the ball faster, more corridor-based movement too.

Impressive games from Oliver, Bugg and Kennedy, too.

Dumb skill errors are still a huge issue but the pre-season has at least delivered three wins and clear progress on the attacking front.

Seems to have been an issue with most if not all teams in the NAB this preseason...

We should have won this easily. 4-5 easy goals missed

have to eat some early humble pie and say Bugg was very good.

N jones I'm tipping to have a career best year. He was a major reason why we dominated the last 3 quarters.

Agreed. We were only a goal or so up at the start of the last but blind freddy could've told you we were going to win.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
