Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Have criticised him a lot in the past and I'm at the stage where I've accepted he'll never be the game changer I wanted him and expected him to be with the hype that surrounded him.

Contributed really well on the weekend and whilst there'll continue to be aspects of his game that I'll wince at, he could be a really handy and versatile third tall this year and down the track when Weideman is ready. Hogan, Weideman, Watts and Petracca could be the fab four with Garlett and Kent eating crumbs down the track. They need to play a lot together and form a bond. But it could be special.

Hoping he has a really strong year in the forward-line and hits the scoreboard hard.

I believe he can.

How about the quality of players recruited and the quality of coaching he has been surrounded by since his arrival.  Shizenhouse!  I agree with many posters however that he must have his best year.  With the better talent around him now I am backing him in.

I may have a different take to some, but I have no doubt that the club has no intention of busting a gut to re-sign him until they're convinced he can take his game consistently to another level.

He's started well, but won't want a dip in form or efforts in the contest.

I have the same view as this.

I'm sure they are tired of waiting for him to be more physical.

Its now or never for Jack.

"WATTS ONLY WANTS TO BE A DEMON"

Amazing the difference a headline makes. Same quotes from the same interview but a sane reporter at Fox Sports that doesn't jump at shadows to get a clickbait headline

Watts is a useful contributor, most criticism of him is ridiculous and based on nothing more than aesthetics.

He's no world-beater, but he's a valuable player on our list.

If he signs a deal now. It'll be for diddly squat.

Instead, he plays his guts out. Increases his value as a player. Grabs a few offers from rival clubs and gets the MFC to match or better for another 3 years.

It's simple stuff. We'd all do the same.

Can this thread please not turn into another generic Watts thread.

Let's focus on the fact Bombay tried to completely reinterpret a pretty clear article to suit his own bias against a player, which included the thread tag "sodd off then".

This is absolute rubbish posting by him, and the title needs to be changed or the thread deleted just like other threads with false information or misleading titles are.

Pathetic attempt.

Read the article....I was looking for the bit where he talks about his dissapointing form over the last couple of years and how he feels as though he owes the club for everything they've done for him. He could then go onto say after some strong showings in NAB challenge 1 and 2 he feels this could be his breakout year and the thought of free agency hadn't even entered his mind.

Or the bit where it says we've shopped him around a couple of times for no result?

Context...context....now where did I put it. How's this for context, he was dropped for rd 23 last year, comes out and plays 2 solid games in the first two weeks of the NAB challenge and it's the old "he'll let us know when he's ready to talk". Throw away line or footy speak call it what you want, 3 years ago he went with "waiting to see who the coach is and the direction of the club", what he and 3/4 of the list failed to realise at the time was that regardless of who was coaching the players had to put in as well, it's as if some players thought the Roos coaching appointment automatically equaled wins. I think it was two years ago in Roos first game as coach he starred against the Saints, sadly that type of performance wasn't sighted again for much of the season. You won't believe this Stu but I have moved on from the no.1 draft pick tag, I'm [censored] off because he's currently a wasted talent. Before someone tells me he would star at another club, he has the opportunity to star for us, this year, the only thing holding Jack Watts back is Jack himself. I think the foot in both camps reeks of arrogance considering what he's served up in his time at the club. As for hate, no hate, my views on Watts have always been realistic and consistent. But if Watts should announce at seasons end he is wanting out just watch how many on here change their opinions of him just as they did for Howe. Anyway Stu you'll have to excuse me I'm off to see how Tmac is going, he's currently getting the [censored] kicked through him in another thread.

It's been a loooooooong time since the footy world viewed us as anything other than a curiosity or an irrelevance.

Get used to more of these articles as we climb the ladder.

Scrutiny. It happens to good clubs. Embrace it.

It seems neither of you read the original article properly - BA obviously missed the main thrust of it, and you've missed the fact that the thread title is almost a word for word copy of the original article's headline.

It's the AFL that put a sexy headline on a nothing story, not BA.

I think we got Garland on the cheap Dazzle, one thing I don't think many have considered is that even if Watts wants to stay I think there will be a big difference in what both parties think he's worth and that alone may see him go. As for who replaces him, we'll have to see how Hulett is travelling later in the year. The Weed may need a bit longer. I can see Pedo getting a year deal for 2018. We don't know how the interchange will effect us yet, we may find ourselves in a position of playing only two talls and rotating mids more frequently through there.

Have a good last year of a contract to land a new long term one on very good coin. Then cruise for a few years. It's the Melbourne way.

I 100% agree. And i have little doubt the club have made it clear where they stand. Being dropped in round 23 and his subsequent comments about the need to become more competitive is proof of that.

As you say (and for what its worth Jack also) he started well enough but needs to stay at that level.

It's interesting that the AFL site went with that headline, as the HUN, which loves to go over the top, went with the fact that Watts wants to remain a Demon for life as the headline.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Not sure this post gave you the credibility you would have hoped for in dismissing your Watts bias.

So what you're saying is we can start player bashing threads based on a misleading headline and that's totally ok?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
