Scott Pendlebury has made an extraordinary prediction about young gun Jesse Hogan.

Scott Pendlebury wouldn’t be surprised if Jesse Hogan kicks 100 goals in 2016

Quote

COLLINGWOOD captain Scott Pendlebury says he wouldn’t be surprised if Melbourne young gun Jesse Hogan kicked 100 goals next season.

As one of the league’s brightest young talents, Hogan enjoyed one of the best ever debut seasons by a young tall forward, which had many comparing his stats to those of champion forwards including triple Brisbane premiership player Jonathan Brown, St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt and Geelong premiership star Tom Hawkins.

Hogan’s brilliant season, where he booted 44 goals from 20 games, was capped off by winning the rising star award — the first forward to do so since Riewoldt in 2002.

But Pendlebury expects Hogan, 20, to soar to even greater heights in the future, starting next season after naming him as one of his 10 players to watch in 2016.

From your lips Pendles to Jesse's ears.

That's a decent Mozz if I ever heard one. Those sorts of things can become a lead weight and expectation. Forget that crap Jessie.

Will any player in the modern game as it is now kick 100 ? Unlikely

with the afl's agenda to bring back contested marking 1 on 1 contests and lowering the interchange cap maybe 100 is possible again , umpires also blew the whistle more against defenders this season gone and I think this will increase allowing superstar forwards to be just that .

and last of all insert poaching paranoia below .

If Hogan kicks a ton, we're on our way to September...!

He supported the Dee's growing up, did he not?

That he did. Then he pledged his soul to filth.

It adds some validity to his call on Hogan in that he must still want the Dee's to be successful.

We'll need to significantly improve the delivery is he's going to get near 100.

Having Salem on the park will go a long way towards that.

He's going to cop 2-3 opponents per game until either Dawes starts taking marks or Weiderman comes on.

To kick a 100 goals a Forward needs to be fed the ball constantly.

We have a midfield who struggle to get the ball enough forward in half our games to even kick 10 goals.I know our Forwards haven't exactly helped by marking or converting when it comes in but he's kidding himself with that prediction.Hopefully he kicks 50 + but if he kicks in the 60 range I think that's a huge effort & id predict between him & Garlett they might kick 100

Is this the start of another Collingwood ploy to recruit Hogan in a couple years time whilst throwing his missus, family, and friends jobs at the 9 network alongside Eddy?

SCUM!

Petracca will attract a fair amount of attention up forward. Hopefully having a few extra goal kickers further up the ground as well now should give Jesse more freedom.

That said, having 2 or more opponents doesn't affect his contested marking ability too greatly as evidenced past season.

Wouldnt be surprised if he kicks 70+ but 100 for the season is a stretch. Whether the abolition of the Sub has any effect on total scoring opportunities remains to be seen.

... and if he gets anywhere near 100, it will indicate that we've significantly improved our delivery to him.

But you're right, that's the only way it's going to happen. He did fantastically well last season to get 44 goals from the crep way we got the ball down to him. We should be able to give him heaps more uncontested marks, so that he doesn't have to just rely on his amazing ability with contested marks.

Our other forwards will take goals off Hogan when we improve.

As it stands, to kick 100 goals in a season (these days) would be an astonishing performance.

He might get 80 though ... they'll need to bring the rotations down to about 40 in order to see the dominant "stay at home" forwards again.

Hogan spent a lot of his time a long way from the goals last year ... such is the nature of the modern game

His creative skills are excellent so he may not always play deep forward anyway.

I remember another PIE telling us we had the best young list and would be the next "lions".

Hmm that sort of fell apart.

Beware Pies bearing gifts!

It's not about Hogan kicking 100 goals.

From what  have seen at preseason. The young group are so full of confidence and they are the ones who are driving the training quality.

The intensity and game plan they now understand. The change in a few months is unbelievable. There is a real buzz around the boys at the moment.

They all believe they can do anything, and will do what is required to make it happen.

Whilst it would be great for a Demon to kick 100 in a season - we are the only club other than the newbies who haven't ever had a centurion goal kicker - I would be happier if he got 70-80 and several others e.g. Garlett, Petracca, Vince got 40-50.

Like WJ, I am trying to keep the lid on:o

100 goals would be amazing but I just think it's too much to ask at this stage and the way the game is played these days.  I'd be pumped if he bagged a couple of 10s. That would be enough for me this year.

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
