Prestia isn't the answer for Richmond, though.  Recruiting him makes little sense to me.

its a classic Richmond move.  They should be starting a full rebuild, their list is trash.  Instead they are chasing players the think will get them to the next level.. a level that is unattainable for them.     I hope they overpay for Prestia with a couple of first rounders or similar.. would set them back years.

Very little sense. Not only will they give up a 1st rounder for Prestia but this year's 2nd rounder was alreadg used for Yarran.

They are just better off going into the draft and rebuilding freshly with more young talent.

They are set for more long term pain.

Spot on dazzle.  They should be looking at their list and going full rebuild.  Plugging a few gaps will get them nowhere.

I think they'll try and offload Deledio for a first rounder, but who wants to give that up for a bloke who is almost 30 with a body that is failing him?

That boat sailed two years ago. But I agree. I reckon they'll try and trade him now. An absolute basketcase.

They've been so worried about burning a coach because of their history that they've kept Hardwick three years too long. In the meantime, their list has continued to become average.

Midfield, to me, isn't their main concern either.  They have no support for Riewoldt, who is getting nowhere near it, plus they have only one decent backman in Rance and no ruckman.  They have a few decent kids but they lack talent, skills and polish in so many areas.  Prestia, with dodgy knees, won't fix any of those problems.

I know I've joked with you about Prestia in the past, and while I would have been happy to get him to Melbourne, I think that all signs now point to him going elsewhere.  Whether we stopped our interest after last year's trade period, or we don't trust his knees to hold up, it's clear we have our sights set on other players.

Not really fussed how Richmond stuff up. Just happy for it not to be us.

O'Meara and Prestia will need to look at their next contracts as their last. Better go for the bucks lads.

Prestia to Richmond reeks of a bit of panic down at Tigerland. Their season has been less that stellar and the results over the last couple of weeks have the fans warming the microwaves and getting the chicken poo ready for delivery. They need a bit of distraction for the hoards and will throw the kitchen sink at the likes of Prestia to deflect the scrutiny from the administration and football department.

Gosh, it's just so, so Richmond to do this.

And so, so Richmond to continue wallowing in their own misery for another 12 months. A clueless club who can't admit where their list is at and refuses to stop topping up with questionable recruits. Prestia's a gun but sacrificing pick 5-6 for an injury riddled midfielder is a laughably poor list management decision.

Looks like Dion is tiger bound. Good luck to him. Hope he enjoys being down the [censored] hole for another couple more years. Honestly your better off staying at GC then playing for a puss side like Richmond.

If they trade a top 10 pick for Prestia it will go down as one of the worst decisions they've made in recent history, right up there with re-signing dimma.

GC will want a player anyways but the way they overrate their players i can't see them offering anyone good enough to get it done

More like Viney lays a bone crunching tackle on Dangerfield, holding the ball. Viney goes back and slots it (Lead out to 94 points). Viney then goes up to Selwood and lets him know all about it, who goes down in history as the first player to get pinged for staging for a free kick. Not content with giving just the free, Selwood's continued sooking is rewarded with 50 meters. Jack dobs it after the siren to bring up the tonne. Unable to allay Selwood's and Dangerfield's tears, Scott seeks out the Geelong doctor to have his jaw put back in, after he dislocates it from his standard continual mouth gaping performance.

It's a grand old flag indeed :)

I like your thinking, DD. However I think it is more likely that when Selwood sees a Demon approaching he instinctively ducks, and when he realises it is Jack Viney coming at him, he ducks so hard that he hits his head on the ground and knocks himself out. When he comes to, he finds he is reported for staging, at which point Chris Scott waves his arms so hard that he starts levitating as his eyeballs expand and crashes into the window of the box. One of the umpteen umpires notices this, and pings him for overly demonstrative staging, thus becoming the first coach ever to have a free kick and 50m penalty paid against him. Viney takes the kick from the goal square, buries the ball up the back of the stand and gives Dangerfield an earful, who falls over in fright and gives away another free for staging. Chris Scott 's scream of anger is heard all around the ground, and all Geelong assistant coaches immediately resign in order to protect their hearing and their sanity. As Jack walks up to the podium to collect the Norm Smith medal, Chris Scott is still waving his arms as all the Geelong players scramble for safety as Viney walks past. Just for fun, Jack ducks as he passes the still groggy Selwood, at which point Scott starts arguing with an umpire and gets arrested.

Dream bigger, mate! :)

I don't know. I just don't rate Hardwick and I don't rate their recruiting. Their development is questionable too. I'd literally start again. I'd keep Rance and Riewoldt. So you've got a lynchpin at either end of the ground that can teach your young players and I'd trade out Martin, Lids and Cotch. I'd get a stack of draft picks and knuckle down for three years of clever trading, focusing on development and a new game plan.

They lack role players all over the ground. They're mostly C graders and they need a coach that will bring cohesion and focus to every player. Hardwick isn't the man and that was clear to many outside of that club 2-3 years ago. I think the midfield is what they have to build and I'd consider keeping just Martin for that reason, but I'd be looking to get 2-3 first rounders, plus whatever they have this year to start the rebuild.

And I'm mostly tongue-in-cheek about Prestia, but nothing I've read anywhere has suggested we've cooled on him at all. It's simply been reported that Richmond is his likely destination, mostly due to money. Now, the way our FD has worked under PJ's guidance since Mahoney took over, is very quietly and very efficiently. We don't show our hand and we operate like a top club. Last year's trade period is evidence of that, where we caught a couple of the big clubs offside with our smart trading. As far as I'm concerned, we're more likely to land Prestia than Richmond. But Carlton...? I don't know. I'll tell you one thing though. I couldn't stand it if he landed at Carlton.

Why would Prestia want to be at Richmond after last weekend's debacle? I agree with Adam that our odds have just shortened again.

Anyhow we don't need anymore dumb footballers. Going to Richmond has proved it.

The biggest issue is it's not about who they recruit, clearly they don't care so long as it's a big name and it looks like they haven't become irrelevant.

very much in denial over at punt road.

Surely Ricgmond aren't going to give up a top 10 pick and $700,000 for Prestia. That would be complete madness. The recruiting staff need a medical check

Idk what would please me more, seeing Richmond through away their future in desperation to pick up a big name. Or seeing Richmond bouncing around braging about their new recuit in August just to have him go elsewhere again. Either way I think I'll have a good laugh this time next year when they are fighting to stay out of the bottom 4.

That's if we're even interested.  I haven't really seen any concrete reports, other than speculation, that we are.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
