WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JOSHUA WAGNER

Having previously lived in the NT, the Tiwi Islands is full of kids that have this X factor, but as you can understand it wouldn't be easy moving to Melbourne. I know Cyril moved to Melbourne at a young age, perhaps we should be offering a couple of scholarships each year to these young lads, get them to the big smoke as youngsters and start our own academy.

excitement machines are good for gate receipts

but on the other hand can he hack distance from family the disciplines of elite sport and the focus on team

Really like Hinchcliffe, loves the competative stuff, not as polished as others but hard at it, WA'S best in this years under 18's and showed those more talented what hard work does for you. Only really got serious about footy this year as he was focussed on cricket previously. Would be a good pick up

Cheers mate, knew you'd be across him. Caught my eye during the champs. Don't know if we're looking at him, but strikes me as one who'd be a very good rookie pick up.

Played against Ross this year and the guy is a human freakshow. Tore the competition apart and is now tearing the NTFL apart aswell.

Got a bit of dash this lad. Likes a run...lol

could probably teach Oliver how to bounce a ball !!

interesting

Paige Cardona lists her Top 20 Rookie Prospects.

Since we have pick 6, it's certain that a majority of the players on this list will be available to us but I have a feeling we have another outside the square selection coming up.

If we take one of these players, perhaps it might be someone who started off 2015 unfit or didn't quite have a full season at TAC Cup level at least - to match the four we picked up in the National Draft.

The following players have been pre selected in the rookie draft - Reuben William (BL), Tom Wallis (Ess), Jesse Joyce (GC), Kyle Galloway & Sam Murray (Syd).

I didn't know clubs could pre-select in the rookie draft.

Well there you go.

So the ability to view highlights from the AFL draft machine has disappeared. That's great.

Just wondering if we really want speed and outside run if we'd consider nabbing St Kilda's Josh Saunders. Just an outside the box thought.

WJ how does the rookie pre-selection work? Also, is that the same Sam Murray we were linked to in an article pre draft? I guess I'm most intrigued how Essendon can pre-select. If it is a father son does that mean the bidding process is still in play?

Nope.

Watched him very closely as he was in my Supercoach side at one stage. He just isn't up to AFL standard.

Wallis is a father/son pre selection (we could have done the same with Jake Lovett had we chosen to rookie him). The others are presumably within the respective clubs' academy areas and therefore eligible for preselection.

Watched some more vision of James Parsons from the champs and wasn't really impressed, would prefer Tahana if we wanted to add more pace.

His Eastern teammate Liam Jeffs is another who could be picked up tomorrow, unfortunately reminds me a bit of Jordan Gysberts as the tall midfielder with good inside skills. Ran a 2.89s 20m sprint at the combine which did shock me as he didn't look that fast on the field but has had injury issues this year. At 192cm and that quick he maybe worth a punt.

I found this really annoying as well, doesn't make sense to me why they would remove it. Luckily there is some Youtube stuff as well to sift through.

Thanks Jack. Do you know if that means we can bid on Wallis if we so choose and Essendon would have to use their first rookie pick? Part of me says we should take him, give him Brad Green's number, give him no games and delist him with a big thanks to his father. However, the sane side of me says best available. (unless there is a Long available too....)

I find the Sam Murray one very interesting though. Isn't he from Wodonga? If the Sydney region extends to the entire Ovens and Murray League then it is more rigged than I thought.

Nope once father sons have gone passed the national draft they go straight on to the rookie list (effectively taking the last rookie pick). He's a bomber now.

Murray played for Wodonga, can only presume he lives on the side of the river, surely they only get the boys in their state. But who knows.

The reality is if we wanted him we could've taken him in the main draft. No one even wants a PSD pick tomorrow, so the desire for these kids is low across the board.

Sounds harsh but largely clubs are just filling out spots they have to use for the year and hoping to find a diamond.

I like the idea of Thomas Glen, 187cm half back who drives out of backhalf.

Develop as an understudy to Col Garland for another couple of seasons, & then, all going well, when garlo retires, we could give his number to Glen. haha, cleaning up them stinking us up.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
